Phil Steele’s computer has gone quite mad, you know.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is the exact scenario that puts Georgia in the SECCG:

No wonder Steele is quick to disassociate himself from his computer (“These are NOT my personal projections.”).

It certainly is *an* exact scenario that would do it. I’d thought we had to win out and have USC lose two, but I think that’s not the case. If there’s a three-way tie with the above losses, we get the nod over USC because we have a better Eastern record than they do. Then we get the nod over Florida because of head-to-head.

OMG! ALL MY CHICKS ARE SO CUTE! I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW MANY OF THEM I HAVE! THERE MUST BE DOZENS!

We would need to beat Auburn as well to get there.

I don’t remember all the tie-breaker rules, but after head-to-head (which would be negated in this particular three-way tie), it goes by division record, which would eliminate South Carolina. I don’t know if it reverts back to head-to-head with the two remaining teams, or if they use some other method like points scored – points allowed in SEC games or the like.

In the three-way tie steps, as soon as you get to one that eliminates a team, you bump back up to the two-way tie procedure. In this case, you are correct: division record eliminates SC; the head-to-head eliminates UF. We don’t have to beat Auburn. We just can’t lose an Eastern game, and USC’s got to lose another Eastern game plus one more from either division.

      Icke.

4-4 3-way. UGA with better record vs. East and head to head with UF. (yeah, right: somebody tell Hal that the gators got an off week).

      BEAT KENTUCKY.

The SEC would manage to fill its bowl slots with that scenario. And the East would have to be renamed the Coastal.

I’d love to believe him, but he said we had the best O-Line in the nation before the season started too…

    Under that scenario:

    South Carolina would be 4-4.
    Florida would be 4-4
    Georgia would be 4-4.

It would be a 3 way tie, using the criteria from here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SEC_Championship_Game#Three_or_more-team_procedure

South Carolina would have two losses in division, and would be eliminated, and then you’d win the tie breaker over us by head to head.

So yes, I believe you are correct.

It’s an insane idea and there’s NO WAY it’s going to play out that way.
HOWEVER….the problem is, without getting my hopes up, if forced to, that is the way I would pick the games right now (except for the Fl game which is always a prayer). Stop this line of talk. Concentrate on KY.
I also enjoy the thought that Auburn will be tied with one loss and may not get to ATL.

It’s going to happen. And we’re all going to feel really weird when it does (in a good way).

And we’re going to beat Bama in ATL for the title and get our mojo back. Those Crimson boys came in an stole our manhood in ’08 and we ain’t got it back yet. There’s only one way to do it. To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man.

Amazing what a big win over Vandy can do for a program!

Please, let’s just worry about KY (the school, not the jelly). Back to back blowouts of bad teams is what we should do, but let’s win on the road first and then we can worry about the next one.

    One at a time, fellas.

Yeah correct me if I’m wrong but we haven’t won a game on the road this season have we? Seems like we need to keep our ducks in a row before we start reserving rooms in Atlanta.

C’mon, folks. The Dawgs have to get past Kentucky first. And lest we forget, we’ve split the last four with the boys in blue…

Based on what I’ve seen to date, hoping Florida beats USCe is a stretch if Lattimore is healthy, even if that happens we’ve still got to win. It’s a long shot but its nice to at least be alive (for now).

Holy glass half-full Batman! We beat two terrible teams and we’re going to win the East in a three-way. As good as that seems (the three-way I mean) I’m still just looking for 6-6. We are a loss to UK and GT away from 4-8.

I’m pretty sure everybody realizes that. It’s Monday. We have days and days before the next game. Gotta pass the time.

I didn’t think it had anything to do with wins and losses in any particular division. An SEC loss is a SEC loss.

Good gracious, guys. Enjoy playing well. This is what fans do: hope. Our job is to look ahead and dream ‘what if.’ That’s why we’re fans. That’s why we keep coming back, because we believe something magical’s about to happen.

I don’t have to worry about Kentucky first. I’m not playing against them or watching film on them or Florida this week. I’m just wearing red and black up the Commonwealth to scream my guts out.

I’ve never understood trying to squash fans’ hopes. Isn’t that the fun part of going for the ride as a fan?

Maybe I’m just the eternal optimist. Here’s what I know: We have played the best of any SEC East team in the last 2 weeks. If we keep playing this way, we’ll beat the 2 teams we need to beat to have a shot at this thing. That, in and of itself, is a miracle after that final debacle in Boulder.

This is what I was thinking, sUGAr. It is my job as a fan to look ahead and hope for the best. I want my team to do the best it possibly can, so while there is still a (slim to none) chance that we reach the SECCG, I want to focus on that. Hope springs eternal, right?

  18. If I was A KY. coach, player. or fan, I would be thinking that we, KY., have an excellent chance to win the East. The Gamecocks lose 1 & we win out.?.
