Urban Meyer should have Newton or Denard Robinson at his disposal this week. Glad that is not the case, although I suspect we will see Burton a lot, and the UF offense should look more like the one from the 3 years prior to this one.

Fine by me – Burton’s a true freshman who hasn’t proven he can throw the ball effectively and the Dawgs are now the top-ranked team in the conference in rushing defense.
I’m far more worried about a healthy Jeff Demps and the return of Chris Rainey, anyway.

I would have to imagine that with the off week, Urban put his foot down and said enough of the spread shit (or at least a significant shift away from the philosophy). Unless they bench Brantley and start Burton, given what UGA has shown against the pass lately, I expect a big dose of passing from the Gators.

I expect the Gators offense to look the best it has all year, this week. Doesn’t mean we can’t/won’t win a shootout (though their defense is no joke)… but if I’m Urban, I use a heavy dose of misdirection to open up the inevitable gaping holes in our over-aggressive and undisciplined secondary.
I’m trying to be optimistic, but 3-17 + Gators bye week + Rainey + our porous secondary = trouble, I’m afraid.

“enough of the spread shit?” That’s all Meyer’s teams have ever run. And Meyer has never been a play caller, or an OC, so I doubt that in one week he’s going to suddenly decide he’s going to be the OC and they’re going to run a pro-style offense. I’m sure they’re trying to shake things up at certain positions, but I don’t see how they can do much different on offense.

The ’05 game tends to scare me though. Urbs took his medicine and went to a play action power run game behind Billy Latsko (if I recall correctly).

Poorly worded. of course they aren’t going to scrap the whole system. But I think you see less spread based plays and more passing. Or more passing plays out of their normal spread formations

He is a stud – no doubt. Where did he finish in your pre-season poll for the player who would pick up most of Verne and Gary’s Tebow slobber? He may have eclipsed Timmy for stretches of Saturday’s game.

Honestly, he wasn’t on my radar. Though I have a friend who saw Newton play in high school and predicted big things for him before the season started.

If anybody’s defensive process can stop Newton, or at least slow him down, it would be Bama’s.
And you have, still, the best possible defense against Auburn, #’s 3 and 22.

I kind of feel like we’re gonna play good against the war chickens. Newton’s a phenomenal athlete, but he still can’t hit the broad side of a barn. I think Gratham’s going to dial up a scheme to slow his running down, and, frankly, I don’t think he can beat a team throwing.
College football is strange these days. All these teams basically run is the single wing. I prefer the pro-style we run. Bottom line is, long term, there aren’t too many 6’6″ kids that can run like that wind out there. The thing about Auburn is that their D is terrible, and it’s hard to imagine a team w/ that bad of a D can win all 12. I just don’t see it. They’ll have a game when the “O” is just off, and we’ll see then if the D can carry them. Hopefully that game will come in mid-November.

They’re good against the run and terrible against the pass (worse than Georgia even). The two games their defense has looked good were against two of the three worst passing teams in the conference (MSU and LSU).

Fairley’s fantastic and two of the linebackers are good. The secondary is awful – too bad LSU couldn’t test it.
Roof basically sold out the line of scrimmage and dared LSU to throw… a good strategy.

Yes, I’ll clarify. Their secondary is atrocious. Fairley will win SEC def. player of the year. But they can’t defend the pass for anything an we’ve got a pretty good receiver.
I don’t care what Newton’s stats are — he hasn’t proven yet he can beat a team w/ his arm. He’s Tebow 2.0. Tebow’s passing stats were sick, but we all knew if you forced him to throw to beat you, you had them. Same w/ Newton. I’d sell out to stop him on the run. Put a spy on him. Stack the box. Do whatever it takes and see if he can put it where he needs to in man to man coverage. I don’t think he can.

I’m pretty confident UGA is going to hang a hundred on AU and intercept Newton 8 or 9 times. All of your running backs that aren’t serving DUI suspensions will get 150 yards, each.
I just don’t see AU overcoming the new unstoppable juggernaut that is UGA.
Has a 3-loss* team ever won the MNC? I think UGA might be the first to win the BCS with as many losses.

I’ve seen me some Herschel, I’ve seen me some Bo, I’ve seen me some Mark Ingram, I’ve even seen Pat Sullivan completing a touchdown pass while prone to the ground, but I ain’t ever seen anything like Cam Newton.
The play in the video, to me, is the functional equivalent of Herschel coming down on his feet and scoring against Ole Miss.
The laptop did not stop Newton. It may suit the story now, but at the time, the Florida staff just let him go.

You are correct that he was never kicked off the team, and, according to his daddy, he left because he was third string behind Tebow and the heir-apparent John Brantley…..He did not want to go, Florida just did not love him enough.

I’ll be pulling hard for the Dawgs when they play AU. From a Bama fan’s perspective, it should be interesting to see how Grantham’s 3-4 D is schemed to stop Newton.
I’m not sure what kind of D Chavis runs, but whatever it is got shredded.
I corrected someone above who stated that Newton couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. It is true that he hasn’t been asked to pass his team to victory, but he also led them back from double digit deficits in a couple of games this year (Clemson and USCe).
We haven’t seemed to tackle very well this year. That scares me a ton vs. this dude. We also haven’t sacked any QBs this year and have very few TFL. Those two stats may bode well for us against AU, as we may stay at home and not overrun plays. 🙂
The keys to beating Newton IMO:
* Hit him hard and then repeat until the game is over. Pound him like he’s never been pounded.
* Create turnovers. Somehow, somewhere.
* Play ball control and keep it out of his hands.
* Score every time you have the ball.
* Hope he eats a lot of turkey on the day before the game and has the blahs.
I think you guys and Bama have the perfect weapons to attack their D – and they both wear #8. Roof got a preview of what to expect in the UT game last Saturday.
Bama has the talent to beat Auburn – and the game is at home. However, it will take a massive effort.

Auburn’s problem is that they have the dipsy-do trickeroo offense. Like a double reverse play, it is high risk-high reward.
Luckily, for the East Alabama A&M Polytechinic Auburn Plainsman/War Eagles/ Tigers who play at the Jordan-Hare-Dye Jungle, the gambles have paid off due to Cam Newton.
But Auburn can’t keep escaping and giving up a zillion points a game. Eventually the luck will run out. If Newton gets injured Auburn is …… dead. And when next season starts, even the mighty Camputer Newton wont be able to keep Auburn in the win column. next season Auburn will suck mightily without one line man returning.
