Well, that answers that.

Why is Florida struggling on offense? Simple.

Meyer says problem is execution, not play calling. “We don’t have a bad play. I don’t allow that.” #GatorsMon Oct 25 19:30:09 via HootSuite

That dude is the unfun kind of crazy. No play is inherently bad, but situationally they are making some damn peculiar calls this season.

There are no bad play calls–only kids that don’t do it right.

Hard not to be perfect if you see it that way.

Yikes, another offense that can’t be stopped.

Sir Urban of the Weasel must have been reading Paul of the Johnson’s latest memoir.

  6. I am a life long Gator Hater & Urban is at the top of my list. However I tend to agree on 1 point. Play calling is vastly over rated in the big picture.
Offensive game plans & Defensive game plans are critical but individual play calling is not nearly as important as execution & intensity; despite what I keep reading in the Comments & in the Blogs.

It doesn’t matter how intense Brantley plays, he’s not an option QB, and will never be one. You can execute perfectly, but a square peg will not fit in a round hole.

Exactly. When Bill Curry had Tim Couch running the option, that was bad play calling relative to personal. (Not saying Brantley is going to morph into Couch, but he’s not an option QB.)

Soooooo… a QB draw on 3rd & 15 is not a bad play call… so long as the players execute with intensity?

There may not be bad plays — different plays fit different situations and will produce different results, but there are bad play calls relative to what is happening on the field.

An offensive and defensive game plan is nothing but a summation of individual play calls. If a handful of play calls are grossly out of touch with what is happening on the field, then what does that say about your gameplan?

The self-righteous douchebaggery never ends with Urban.

  8. Pretty elegant dodge of the question. There’s plays and play calling. The question was about the latter and Meyer chose to address the former.

  9. That is Jon Fabris level stubborn, right there folks. I sure hope he’s being honest. The ONLY thing that would make me confident in a win Saturday is if Meyer and Addazio really try to run the option with Brantley against Justin Houston.

Ah, it sounds like Corch has been watching one of my favorite movies: Legends of the Fall and is channeling Colonel Ludlow (Anthony Hopkins’s character) when he tells Brad Pitt in a stroke impaired voice: Youuuurrrrrr not dammmmmmmmnnned, I wannnnt allow thatt!!! Maybe he’ll continue with this and tell everybody that he is retiring again in order to “lose the madness over the mountains” or he could channel the old Indian some too and be like: “Every Corch hopes that a good death will find him” or “Tim Tebow was born in the moon of the red grass…”

That might be true but he did change his scheme for us during the off week when he had Leak at QB, so I wouldn’t go getting excited about their doldrums yet. He might just be lulling CTG asleep.

That’s what Florida scored against Georgia in 2005.

And he did retool his offense with the use of a more “pro-style” passing attack. Remember what a big deal everyone (read media) made of his insertion of the TE into their offense? With a new/unseen offense and/or plays 14 points were all the Gaytors needed.

Right now UF has one thing going for them UGA’s DB’s. Our guys will make John Brantley offensive player of the week.

I find it fascinating that Corch Irvin Meyers is apparently channeling Charley Pell now. Anyone recall what Charley’s record was against UGA?

Sounds like Meyer has found his Martinez in Addazio.

Why didn’t Corch fire Addazio after last year. Everybody could tell then he was going to be a crappy coordinator. Urban Meyer’s biggest problem is he is too loyal to his assistants. Florida is clearly trending down and will be looking up at (insert team of the week here) until we fire meyer. He is a nice man but he doesn’t have what it takes to get us over the top anymore. He has lost his passion to win. We need to get somebody like Dirk Koetter Dan Hawkins Chris Peterson in here to lead this program.
