• Urban Meyer – Head Coach
• Steve Addazio – Tackles/Tight Ends
• Stan Drayton – Running Backs
• Billy Gonzales – Wide Receivers
• Chuck Heater – Recruiting Coordinator/Cornerbacks
• John Hevesy – Centers/Guards
• John “Doc” Holliday – Associate Head Coach/Safeties
• Greg Mattison – Co-Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Line
• Dan Mullen – Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
• Charlie Strong – Assistant Head Coach/Co-Defensive Coordinator/LinebackersThree of those men are now head coaches in their own right, with Strong at Louisville, Mullen at Mississippi State and Holliday at Marshall. Gonzales is at LSU, and Mattison with the Baltimore Ravens. Hevesy went with Mullen to MSU.
That leaves Addazio, Drayton and Heater from a staff that won the BCS title only a couple of years ago. Only 3 of the 9 assistants remain.
Or, as he more succinctly puts it, “What remains is Meyer and the coaches that, for whatever reason, haven’t been seen fit to be hired away by other programs.”
What remains to be seen is whether Georgia’s staff is ready to take advantage of the changed circumstances.

What the post doesn’t take into account is that Urban Meyer is an evil, self-serving prick and now that he doesn’t have the Tim Tebow umbrella of graciousness to hide under, there’s simply no way that a just and caring God would allow him to continue to prosper.

The Corch is a genius. He don’t need no stinking assistants to turn it around. Mullen will be lured away from MSU as soon as a better job opens.

You said that in jest but that is not only a very real possibility, it is a probability. (S)CUM almost quit last season. (S)CUM has never held a coaching job more than 5 years before. This is his 6th season in Gatorland. I don’t see him hanging around Gainesville much longer. Mullen’s success at MSU is the precursor to a return to the Swamp within 2 years, max.

Fear not. Mullen is only a Meyer clone and not as good as the real thing. The MSU victory over UGA was 40% improvement of their team and 60% our bad luck (counting bad calls by the refs as part of the bad luck). The Dawgs are just about back. The Year of the Dawg is 2011. (Look at the schedule.) With a little good luck the rest of this season the year of the Dawg might also still be 2010. The future’s so bright we are all gonna have to wear shades.

Just look at the facts. We now have the best AD in college sports. We have one of the top 5 head coaches in the country. Our Achilles heel in the past has been bad D. We now have one of the top DCs in the country and anyone with 2 eyes can see that the D is starting to really come around already. But for some really unlucky breaks where this team lost close games at the beginning of the season (and against teams that are at their historical best this season) UGA would be 6-2 or so this year during a rebuilding season. We have the best young QB in college football and 2 really good backs who, hopefully have gotten over their spate of fumbling. We have the best WR in college football (if he will come back next season) and the best OLB (same). Even if those guys leave, there will be others to take their place as we are on the verge of sewing up this state in recruiting. We are in the SEC East. Our main rivals UT (in complete disarray) and FLA (having lost the main assistant coaches and players that made them successful) are in a down period. The remaining challenger (SC) is a historically inferior program that only beats us once every 5 years or so. Next year all the toughest games are in Athens and we do not have to play the toughest teams from the other side of the conference during the regular season except Auburn. We will already have the SEC East wrapped up before we play them. Man, life is good!

Mergz is a wise man.
Spurrier often says 7-8 years is usually enough for any coach to be at any job. He wears out his welcome after that. That qoute is applicable to both Meyer and Richt
The rest of the year will be interesting for Florida fans. If Meyer wins out in the SEC, then the season is a win, in spite of the fits and starts. If he loses 2 of the next 3, then the season is unacceptable. If UGA wins out in the SEC, will that mollify UGA fans regarding Richt?
A coach with Meyer’s credentials gets the opportunity to have a few unacceptable seasons, as long as they are spread out between successful seasons (see 2007 between 2006 and 2008). But a consecutive string of unacceptable seasons will not be tolerated at Florida. We give our Ray Goffs three years, max.

I never thought I’d see the day when Steve Spurrier was being cited on a Georgia blog as a purveyor of wisdom. I don’t want the kind of fans who would want Meyer or Richt gone based on their records to date, you can’t satisfy them and there is no point trying. I wish they would move to France so that they could have something else to distract them like rioting in the streets over their retirement age being raised from 60 to 62.

Oh, I have been a Florida fan for longer than anyone on this site has been alive, save perhaps the good Senator. I matriculated from HS when Nixon was still president.
I am not ready to throw Meyer under the bus, by any stretch of the imagination, unless the meaning of “three years of unacceptable performance” means something different in Georgia than it does in Florida. And come to think about it, the meaning of that phrase might indeed be different there than here, given the number of years Ray Goff was kept around.
And the comments regarding the support for Richt is amusing, given the angst written by some of the same folks just a few weeks ago.

Mike: considering the longetivity of most other SEC schools’ resident legends, dontcha think maybe Spurrier was doing a little hindsight rationalization with that comment? I think the biggest reason he left Florida was the new career challenge. Nobody has come up with anything credible otherwise.

Well, not to start anything but I voted for Nixon the first time and the second time. (But you guys forgot about the REAL first time that Nixon ran–against Kennedy.) And I worked in DC during the Nixon impeachment investigation. So once again ole Mike is FOS and talking through his ass about stuff he really doesn’t know anything about.

So did Michigan under Rich Rodriguez–twice. And Iowa under Kirk Ferentz. That’s football. Zook was not a bad coach. Zook had the misfortune of coming after a legend and suffering by comparison. Do you think SOS picked the time to leave by accident? He saw a down year coming and headed for the NFL leaving someone else to have to pick up after him. Zook just drew the short straw. He’s doing better at ILL than anyone else has done for many years and I am happy he is getting a chance.

Oh, I forgot to mention he also beat Ohio State under Jim Tressel the same year OSU went on to play in the BCSNCG. That year (2007) Zook was named Big-10 Coach of the Year.

Seeing the issues that UF is dealing with, I just can’t get one thought out of my head – The Water Boy. CUM is supposed to be a coaching genius but looking at the issues he has going on right now I have to question that. Mullen was the QB coach under CUM at both Bowling Green and at Utah, then he was the OC at UF for CUM. With the exception of CUM having Tebow to fall back on and keep things moving last year, could it be that Mullen was the man behind the curtain at UF? CUM is no real wizard, just smoke and mirrors. The real wizard is the man behind that curtain… or in this case the man that is now the head bell clanker at MSU. The thought that keeps popping into my head is the scene from The Water Boy when Jerry Reed shows up and demands the playbook that Henry Winkler put together. Without that playbook, Reed has no shot at getting the head coaching job. I guess the next few weeks or possibly the next season will show just who the real genius, or wizard, really is.
