Nick Saban keeps a stiff upper lip – at least when it suits him.

Will Collier catches a moment of cognitive dissonance in this Saban interview:

Do you think it’s fair that so many teams will have had off-weeks before playing you this season?

“It is something we don’t ever complain about… ”

“I don’t think it’s right that last year we played Auburn on a Friday and we had a game the Saturday before, so we had to play them on a short week. And Auburn had a bye before the game. That stuff is not good for the players. It’s not fair, but it’s not good for the players, either.”

Ever is an awfully short time in Alabama, it seems.

“We never complain, except when we do.”

Please lay off of Coach Saban this week.

He has a lot of work to do getting ready for LSU and doesn’t have time to be posting rebuttals on internet chit-chat boards.

    Thanks for your help,

He’s right though. Not really fair to play Saturday, then the following Friday. Now, it MIGHT be fair if they were paid extra for that by TV, but of course….oh wait, what’s that? You mean you AGREED to do it? And you got PAID? Huh…..

Of course he doesn’t mention that they play the previous week’s game on a Thursday, and that opponent is Georgia State, the same GA State that just lost to South Alabama.

  6. Jerry Jones told him he won’t have to worry about that next year.

When I saw the words Saban, stiff, and lip, I thought surely this was a column by Finebaum.

The bye-week is a legitimate issue. UGA fans ought to know as we have been the worst victim of that in SEC history. That is the device used by SOS to get the upper hand in the UGA-FLA series. Look what happened this year. Bye-week for FLA. New wrinkles on offense for FLA that had UGA screwed up in the first half before adjustments could be made at the half and a 2 TD lead. This is almost an exact repeat of what happened in 2005. ALL SEC games should be played consecutively over an 8 week period with no bye-week and no walkover games mixed in. Period. That would keep the gamesmanship about scheduling out of it.

I don’t think he was complaining. He got dealt a raw deal this year and he was trying to give the reporter (sic) something to fill his little journal with.
