… According to sources connected to the probe … FBI agents looking into the Newton recruiting controversy are also asking about Milton McGregor — a dog track owner arrested last month for allegedly bribing Alabama politicians to vote pro gambling.
We’re told agents asked someone connected to the Newton case if he was familiar with McGregor or the bribery scandal.
TMZ goes on to say that it doesn’t know what the link between Newton and McGregor might be, but any time you’ve got the FBI bringing somebody arrested into the conversation, it’s not good.

Really, I felt a little bad for Auburn when the news first hit. As more info came out it was clear something was rotten, and when he was announced as the starter and the crowd reacted like they’d just been crowned national champs I got a little angry. As the game wore one, with Newton playing to the crowd and Fairley taking cheap shot after cheap shot, I got angrier and angrier. The Auburn fan reaction to the aftermath has made me angrier still, and now I want them to get the death penalty, even though I know they won’t.

+1 Exactly the progression of my emotions. Now I want the team, staff, and fans to suffer for the way they conducted themselves last weekend, and since. The Aubie Canes deserve a tough punishment on Cam for their arrogance regarding it, and for condoning fairley’s actions and attempting to deflect blame back onto UGA.

What’s odd to me is that it’s not only UGA folks up in arms about AU and Fairley’s play and whatnot, but it’s all of college football. It’ll be so great to see them get hammered. I thought AU fans were the sufferable ones here in Alabama, but I’m beginning to see why both fanbases deserve each other.

Even Herbstreit was on Sportscenter last night saying he thought he should be penalized/suspended for the helmet to the spine.
So lets see how this could work for all the other schools affected. Auburn gets all wins wiped off, LSU goes to the SECCG and wins, Alabama goes to Sugar Bowl and hopefully we beat tech and the added win from Auburn gets us to the Chick Fil A. I think New Years day is out completely. Being 40 with kids, watching the Dawgs on the 31st would be great.

Not if the SEC/NCAA has enough information to act quickly (I know, good luck with Slime doing anything). AU could have to vacate the first 11 games and send LSU to play SC in Atlanta. Of course the $12-13MM for the 2nd BCS bowl gamw would cost the SEC office their, approximately, $1MM share of that second game. That could cost them their bonuses, and is why they didn’t take action on fairley this week. The rest of the CFB nation saw him ignore the obvious. Another black eye for the SEC.

So when did paying a player to play at a school become a federal offense? I guess the unreported income is a biggie, but is anything else about young men being shopped to colleges a federal offense? Besides, if income is the big deal, doesn’t the IRS usually do their own investigation into unreported income? Don’t get me wrong. I hope the NCAA knocks Auburn junk in the dirt. I just don’t understand why the FBI is involved.

If the money is dirty, as the TMZ story is true (BTW, TMZ!?! I didn’t realize Cam::L Lohan), the FBI has a very good reason on being involved.
Maybe someone else can speak to this, but if Cecil and Co. know of the dirty money source, could be a crime of conspiracy, at minimum.

It could be considered extortion if he verbally commits and then asks for money to follow through. If such a crime occurs across state lines (i.e. MS & AL), then it becomes federal.

Auburn is all in on Newton, and they have rolled the dice. The FBI. TMZ. And prominent boosters. A lot of stuff floating out there. Oral representations of a relative of a certain player. Representations of certain persons affliated with MSU. Is the FBI there to confirm some allegations about improper recruiting for the NCAA and SEC? FBI normally does not waste its resources this way. Did they come into the USC & Reggie Bush situation. Nope. If I was a president of a school in the SEC, I’d be very concerned about this. Just how many times has the FBI been in college athletics. Someone saw something related to this and started connecting the dots. The money trail. This is going to be interesting. Could be a serious matter not only for Auburn, but MSU. If MSU said they did not want to even hear money mentioned while they recruited a player, then what would motivate or change the state of the mind of the person or persons asking for money to go somewhere else. And all the while Mike Slive and the SEC office will wait for the big boys to finish this drill. That can not be comfortable for them. Auburn rolled the dice. Not like Ceasar crossing the Rubicon going to Rome.
And all the while, LSU sits patiently watching this play out and their leap into the national title picture. The gainers…Bama, Carolina, and LSU. If this blows up against Auburn and they are down the road, what restitution will they have to make. And SEC presidents wait and hope their conference is not too heavily damaged by this. For the losers it will more than a late hit to deal with. Somewhere maturity and honesty must come in.

Somebody posted this massive epistle on tigerdroppings.com today about the whole Cam Newton sitch and how it goes way, way, waaaaaaaaay past Cam. It’s long, like read it on your laptop on the can long. It possibly connects some dots and posits some conspiracy theories, but even if 20% of it’s true, All-Barn’s in heapum big trouble.

Just finished it too. Absolutely riveting. I don’t care if it was 100% fake, it was the best story I’ve heard since Lost. However, if it is true, it’s not looking good for the plains.
If the shit REALLY hits the fan and Auburn loses it’s accreditation, what does that mean for the current students? Hopefully not what I think it means.

If it is fake it is a consistently common sense fake. And a very detailed on to boot.
And it makes sense. Since Colonial started going down the tubes the feds would have been investigating why. It seems bizarre that in an economy that is consititently growing that Colonial could have reached such dire straits. Like I said previously, I am sure that the government would have wanted to know what went wrong.
I had no idea of how deep the involvement between the Auburn BOT and the Colonial Bank was.
Wire taps from political corruption cases that lead to this? Actaully quite probable.
If this is a conspiracy theory. It is a really, really good one.

By being allowed to play the ineligible Cam Newton there are dozens of schools that could possibly feel the effects, whether through Bowl games or the National Championship picture.

My prediction: Cam Newton will be ruled ineligible at some point either before the SEC championship game, or after it but before BCS selection.
As a result, LSU will get a slot in the BCS title game.
Why? Because that bit of extreme luck would fit in perfectly with how the rest of Les Miles’ season has gone.
Even when he loses, he wins.

Alabama beat Arkansas by 4, but lost to LSU by 3.
Auburn beat Arkansas by 21, but only beat LSU by 7.
Arkansas plays a good Miss. State this week, while LSU gets a glorified bye week against Ole Miss.
I’m not saying LSU definitely beats Arkansas, but everything looks to be in LSU’s favor.

The Tigerdroppings story sure has a fair amount of detail. Only the FBI & NCAA knows if it’s true. However, based on what happened in the past with Auburn and the connection between the AU board and the Colonial bank board, I think we have a winner. How these guys are all under investigation by the FBI and still making decisions at AU is beyond me.
Throw some gratuitous T&A into the story and you have the making of an awesome HBO mini series.
