Conspiracy theories make for good story-telling. Especially when they have a few nuggets of truth in there. I don’t know if Auburn will ever get caught, but it is indisputable that they have some shady characters employed in their program… guys that have been tied to impropriety in the past still holding positions of extreme power. For this reason, I don’t know why Auburn acts so incredulous when their integrity is questioned.
Also, I don’t know how anyone can look at these “mentorship” programs with high esteem. They all seem a little sketchy and agent-y. I agree with some of the dude’s points, but until someone gets cut out of the loop and blows the whistle, the complete truth will never be told.

The only reason that the NCAA ever caught Southern Cal and Reggie Bush is that the moron refused to sign with the agent who bankrolled the Bush family’s free house. Without that, all of the “compliance” people at USC and the NCAA would have never been the wiser and Bush would still have his Heisman Trophy. Boosters, on the other hand, are a lot more careful and not likely to ever blow the whistle on themselves. What subpoena power does the NCAA have to look into the bank books of boosters? None. We all know that a lot more happened with the Cam Scam than the dad admitted to (apparently knowing just how far he had to go to clear his son), but we also know it will never be proven. Auburn got away with it.

For now. Remember, there could still be some players on the… ahem, payroll… that could tumble the house of cards like SMU. If one of these players suddenly finds himself pushed out the door for the next hot commodity, then Auburn could find itself in hot water should any of the numerous allegations be true.

Which would be beautiful. But I’m willing to bet that, if Auburn did anything wrong, they probably learned the Jim Harrick lesson by watching. Once you do the dirty deed with a player, you’re married to that player for life. Better take care of the Tony Coles in your life. Granted, nobody knows if Auburn did anything wrong or not… but I feel CERTAIN that Cam Newton knew what was up. That in itself should make him ineligible. That ship has probably sailed, though.

The only way Cam will ever be found ineligible (again) is if they can tie the money trail to Papa Cecil. Which, as you said, is highly unlikely.

There are 2 other ways. 1) If Cam f#cked up and told somebody the truth and that person spilled the beans. It is commonplace for criminals to brag to others about getting away with something, particularly if is big. Prisoners testify in court about what other prisoners told them in jail all the time. Cammie does not strike me as someone with a lot of brains. He thinks he is bulletproof and, sorry, appears to have a criminal mentality. I would not be surprised at all that when he gets to the NFL and there are no real financial consequences for him personally (I doubt he cares at all about Auburn) he starts bragging in private. He will tell the wrong person and give enough detail where a trail can be established. When Cammie gets sideways with that guy, he will spill the beans and the truth will come out. 2) We still don’t know for sure what the FBI has. Could be the Feds have documentary proof of money transfers from Lowder to Cecil or Cammie himself or wiretaps documenting payments. I honestly think the truth about this will come out eventually.

P.S. Re: CVD. He has had a secret hard on for UGA ever since he got ousted. Now we have the controversy over the name of the stadium. I think CVD would actually undermine UGA football if he could, particularly now that his kid is HC at UT. CVD is no longer a friend of the Dawgs. A shame really but understandable. Just another part of the University of Georgia ruined by Mike Adams, who destroys whatever he touches.

…which is exactly why he said he couldn’t attend the UGA/UT game since he said there was no way he could pull against UGA in Sanford Stadium. Of course, Barbara didn’t have that problem apparently.
I don’t put to much into Vince’s comment. Vince always, always talked up our opponents, and giving a little “W-E” at the end of an interview doesn’t really equate to full on treason to me.
Sorry Mayor, but I don’t see Vince as a villain here. I know plenty others agree with you, though.

The Chette Williams stuff has circulated for a few years, but what I don’t understand from the blog post is what’s so hard about getting access to the Ministries’ books? They’re a tax-exempt entity, correct? It stands to reason that the IRS could audit them any time they chose. Why would there be anything untraceable about a tax-exempt organization? Every nickel should be accounted for. If there isn’t clear accounting to demonstrate that Chette’s organization has stayed within the bounds of its tax-exempt status, then shut the damn thing down and arrest Chette.

Speaking as a chairman of my church’s finance committee, many religiously affiliated organizations are exempt from the tax-exempt filings like 990’s, etc. The IRS could audit them, but unless there is an obvious smoking gun before opening the books, it is unlikely that they would ever bring that hell (punerific) upon themselves. That’s a Pandora’s Box that nobody in the Executive Branch wants opened.

As a former IRS Agent I can say that you are correct. In my 11 years with the IRS I was only aware of one audit of a church in the Atlanta District. That was done only because the church was fostering a tax protest scheme. The IRS is not going to audit religious organizations in the regular course of business. Now if during a wiretap of a person it becomes apparent that a religious organization or a church is being used to say, laundry money then it’s open season. It would be fun to see who would roll over at Auburn when the FBI comes calling. Trooper Taylor has the most street cred so I’m sure he is aware of the drill.

In the immortal words of Lewis “Tell it all brother tell it all.” It has become clearer over the last two years why Auburn University reached out to a coach from Iowa State with a losing record rather than going after a winner. Gene could be trusted by Bobby, Pat and the boys. It’s hard to cheat if the coach doesn’t know and they got burned by Terry Bowden before. So against the wishes of the average fan and universal laughter by their SEC brethren, Auburn got ole Gene. It all makes sense now. Given the competence of the NCAA Auburn is going to get away with it and all of the SEC will be the worst for it. Just remember the sage advice of the head cheater at SMU just lie, lie, lie and keep on lying to NCAA.

it wouldn’t be because he was a coordinator on two consecutive undefeated teams, one of which — Texas — won the national title, would it? or that he won the broyles award when he helped auburn go undefeated in ’04, just four years before he was hired. people act like the guy’s a retard because he went to a traditionally awful program and struggled to win immediately, in his first chance as a HC. clearly he’s done something right, as he’s got three undefeated seasons on his resume. i don’t know that UGA’s entire staff has that many between them.

I’m all about UGA tradition, but I love mixing up the uni’s every once in a while. Just not that ugly as hell grambling look a like uni’s at the Fla game.
For those that believe in the recruiting “conspiracy theory”. Look, the inproprieties surrounding the pay for play and non-profit organizations is very real. The blue tuna article is surprisingly closer to truth than you’d think, especially talking about Auburn. Guess who’s showed up as a the johnny come lately for our golden boy Crowell, you guessed it, Auburn. And Bama ain’t that far off either folks. It’s been well understood since last summer that X. Dickson’s father was trying to pull the same thing that Cam’s dad did…you know that Dickson committed to us the morning before he went on TV? Within 5 hours something happened and Bama won his service. He wasn’t too happy announcing Bama either at the under armour game.

Let me go against the conventional wisdom about the Liberty Bowl. I watched the game again and I did not detect a lack of effort on the part of the Dawgs. Frankly, lack of effort is what I thought originally myself but a replay viewing does not bear that out. Face it, we got whupped by a better team, one that was champion of its conference and finished the season ranked. They won 11 games (the most in their school history) and several sports journalists are openly saying that UCF was the best team in the state of Florida last season. The 2010 Dawgs did not beat a single team that had a winning season. Looking back I think it was foolish of us to think the Dawgs would beat a ranked team that won the C-USA Football Championship. The UCF lines dominated the UGA lines on both offense and defense. The truth is that the better team won the 2010 Liberty Bowl which is a shocking indictment of where the UGA football program is right now.

I have to admit this is the first BCS Championship Game I ever skipped. I don’t have cable and ESPN 3 sucks a big one now that it’s stuck on live play and has a buffering system that makes YouTube look sophisticated. On the one hand, I really didn’t care about the game. On the other, you take money off the table when you place additional limits on your audience. When I first heard about the ESPN deal, I assumed they meant ESPN would cover the games and broadcast them on ABC affiliates. But they really meant they were showing the games on ESPN. Here in Georgia I’m an odd-man-out for not having cable or satellite. In places like the mid-west where its relatively flat and you can pick up a TV signal for a long distance, it’s far more common to not have anything but an antenna.
