Many wonder why TX fans are down on Mack Brown. This past 5-7 record notwithstanding, they know that the program has as good or better resources than anyone in the country and if not for one special Vince Young season (game), they would not have a national title under Brown. They feel as if he got kinda lucky. So when you step back and look at it subjectively (if that’s possible in CFB), you see that TX, FL, and GA (others for sure) have tremendous resources in all aspects – 2 of which are not afraid to spend major $$ and tell the world that we don’t care what you think, we’re in this to win it all.

So I guess what I’m saying is that good for TX for spending the dough and expecting/demanding to beat OK and compete for the NC every year. Sure they’re a bit delusional, but wouldn’t you like to see the UGA leadership make the same type of commitment? Maybe if our fanbase demanded that the same from our leadership we would get results that equal are tremendous potential. I suppose time will prove McGarity’s intentions.

I think you’re probably right about Texas fans’ opinions of Mack Brown, and I think it’s entirely unfair. He recruited that special player, just like Dooley recruited Herschel, Meyer recruited Tebow, and Chizik recruited (winkwink) Newton. They all still deserve credit for landing that special player and designing their offenses to maximize their potential (or having an OC that did).

I have absolute confidence in McGarity. He is going to get it done because he ubderstands the real role of the AD–to put his team in the best possible position to win.

I am kind of glad Texas turned down the SEC. There are enough inflated egos in this conference already. Texas is big and rich. They hgave power and they know how to use it.

If you ask the Texas fans..and I have many relatives and friends among them..what about Mack Brown??..they’ll cuss and fuss but in the end they know he is good for Texas. They anoint him as ” the best politician in Texas” and admit he can raise money so easily that they can’t give him up. Kids in Texas live to play for the Longhorns and they have plenty of them. They don’t tease about going to Oklahoma or A&M..they sign!! So if you want to compare UGA with UT..the real UT…you’ll have to create a loyal fanbase, generous donors, and high school players who long to play at Georgia. AND, they can well afford any coaches they need!

Texas has got nothing on Georgia. Georgia pays Mark Richt $3 million per year and he has finished outside the top twenty five two years running!
