Blind eyes and blank checks in Knoxville

I’m not sure if there’s anything in college athletics that amazes me more these days than the fact that Mike Hamilton remains gainfully employed as the University of Tennessee’s athletic director.

What remains to be seen is how the NCAA feels about that.

He’s employed because the fish rots from the head. He’s just the soft underbelly. It is a lack of institutional control in NCAA speak. To me they are just corrupt. Not as bad as the Old Fla before SOS but close to Clemson or Auburn for their history.

Hamilton might be the most hated man in Tennessee now that Kiffin is gone but for some reason he gets full support from the board and UT’s president.

You can’t sanction the Orgeron. The UT Board and Prez may have Mike on double super-secret probation, the terms and conditions of which are that Mike understand better the unintended consequenses of his significant impressions* and that Mike pay closer attention to the next letter he gets from Al Davis and do what Al says.

    * Mike’s intro of Lane excerpt: “When you actually spend time with Lane, you see his unbelievable energy and his incredible focus on the competitive nature of the recruiting process. He’s charismatic, he has a plan for everything he is doing and he is a tireless worker. He will assemble a great staff, and we will support his efforts in doing that. He has made a significant impression on me in the short time I have known him, and I know he will have the same effect on the entire Volunteer family in short order.”

Lane Kiffin. The gift that keeps on giving.

Surprised there wasn’t mention Byrnes H.S. was the place Kiffen had the UT hostess visit

It will be O.K. with the NCAA as long as Brandon Willis says he didn’t know he was working out on the UT campus or he was spending the night with Lacey Underall-or-whatever-her-name was.
