On the Saban thing, if they are not at 85 scholarships and are not giving out the info, who is to say that they don’t simply give out 92 scholarships if they feel like it. The rules simply do not apply to anything in that state.

Does they have to report such data to the NCAA? I’m thinking they do, but after this year, I’m not convinced they’d do anything about it if it were true.

Tech’s academic standards are so freaking high, they can’t simply bring in just anyone to play football. Rueben Houston went on to become a highly respected pharmacist while Reggie Ball is now an accountant at Goldman Sachs.

I don’t really think that Matt is that bad. matt almost lead an undermanned UT squad to an upset of LSU. Didn’t happen though because of a COACHING failure at the end of the game–not a QB failure. Phil, however, is pissed off at the wrong guy. The guy that Phil should be taking a swing at is Derek Dooley, who let Phil’s kid be cannonfodder through the difficult part of the season, then when the schedule got easy let the freshman win all the easy games and be anointed as the “savior” of the program.

That sounds like great absolution of Matt and it is true that the Vols have more problems than just the QB. Fact is though that Matt is a 22 year old JR with one garbage year of starts. He is a bad QB. I don’t know anything about him other than his stats though. Plus a few teams almost beat LSU this year and LSU is king at almost losing.
For the record getting pissed at anything that is said on Gameday is a little immature I would say. Those folks reverse field on anything and everything.

I agree about Gameday which is why Phil Simms, as I said above, should be pissed at DD instead of ol’ Des. And it isn’t so easy to complete passes when you are hit by a D-lineman as soon as you get the ball. You might consider giving the Simms kid a break, eh?

I met Desmond Howard at the 2004 Heisman Trophy ceremony and he is a really nice dude. Personable, friendly and down to earth. I met probably 25-30 Heisman winners that weekend and he was one of the best. So either he is really down to earth or has such he large ego he does not care. Simms strikes me as having giant chip on his shoulder and I can see him creating an overheated confrontation.
Also, Howard is not the biggest guy in the world either. I am just a shade over six feet and I felt like I towered over him.

That Simms story is great. I’d like Desmond to give an honest breakdown on Adam James. Then the WWL can set him up in a pay per view cage match against two psycho dads.

Actually “Georgia Tech, the Perfect Option” is pretty good, I hope they use that one.
The idiots don’t understand the “local media” (read NorthAtlanta JC) did not buy in to the concept, they poked fun at it constantly and are still (Bradley) trying to find something about the idea to backhand.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I can’t recall reading a single piece on the AJC’s site that wasn’t critical or dismissive of the concept, especially in the weeks since losing to UCF.

Somebody ‘splain to me the reason for the bias directed against UGA by the AJC. UGA is the flagship university of a state that has 8 million residents and is by far the most popular football program in the state with those residents. It strikes me as counterproductive to piss off that many fans of a team. I can tell you that I, for one, do not read that filthy rag any more in large part because of the way the AJC sports department treats the Dawgs. No wonder they are about to go out of business. It serves them right.

Because it’s a version of “if it bleeds it leads” just “if it creates traffic it leads”. The writers know making people angry will generate more buzz and more traffic than paying tribute to the big guys of the state.

It is easier to ‘splain why their writers take that “stir the pot” strategy than it is to ‘splain why one single person buys the newspaper. You state you have quit, but obviously there are actually some who do subscribe. I cannot phathom why any person would do that (beyond the usual fish-wrapping and fire-starter needs.) Seriously, buy a couple of ounces of silver every year, give a tank of gas to a needy person, buy lottery tickets for several months, etc. Keeping them afloat is harming the environment and perpetuating stupidity. Bradley is a good example, I only know what he writes because it is repeated here.

Nerd comments are just kind of sad. it never ceases to amaze me how many shots they try to take at Richt, i guess it makes sense considering he OWNS them. that and the fact that our team has won as many BCS bowl games as their entire conference combined and now they suck at basketball too. ACC, another word for futility.
