Cam Newton has Dieon Sanders disease. Christian Leattner is another notable victim. To treat it, administer humble pie the until symptoms diminish.

The Michigan thing was driven largely by a local media that was totally hostile to UM and in particular RichRod. 99.9% of the time when people bitch about the media being out to get them they are wrong/paranoid/PAWWWLL types, but wow some of the stuff the Freep wrote.

Here’s a tip for a fun evening at home: next time you get into a fight with your wife, try the Zach Dillard apology! Say you’re sorry, admit you’re wrong, and then spend the next hour explaining why everything you did was right. It’s hours of fun.

I dunno, I like my method of:
(1) denying I did anything offensive (“that wasn’t yelling”)
(2) accusing my wife of doing something offensive (never works)
(3) half apologizing (“I’m sorry that you felt I did…”)
(4) finally apologizing after failing at #’s 1-3

I’d feel more sympathy for Dillard if he hadn’t been one of the primary reporters who ran with those overblown reports a few months ago of how Caleb King was going to be in such hot water over some loans he’d supposedly received.
As an ex-R&Ber myself, I certainly understand his zeal to be out in front with a given news story before anyone else has a chance to break it, but when that zeal starts to affect your quality control, it’s time to step back, take a chill pill, and re-examine your priorities.
I’d be interested in finding out who this anonymous “source” was who convinced Dillard that Murray was going to be out for all of spring practice. I doubt we’ll ever learn who it was, but either way, if I were Dillard’s editor I might gently suggest that he doesn’t rely on that guy for info anymore.

You’re absolutely right, Doug, the fact that he basically manufactured the King “story” says everything you need to know about what’s motivating him. He wants to get his name out there. That’s fine, too, and I understand as a fellow Grady grad. However, his name is getting out there for all the wrong reasons. When you think something may be an NCAA problem (despite the fact that anyone who read it could see that it wasn’t), then you do some digging. You go to the compliance people. When they say “no, this doesn’t seem to be a violation”, you don’t write the story anyway. It was such a crap piece of writing, basically saying “not for nothing, but I heard this thing that’s going on and it kinda seemed like it could be a problem, even though the school says it’s not, but we’ll see.” Then, there’s the ankle story. He could have locked up first place in the story by putting out the info he had on Saturday. But then he would have been beaten to the real finish line of the story by the MSM. So he waited until he “thought” that he had the slam dunk. Zach, I hope that you learn something about doing it the right way before you get out there into the “real” world of reporting.

Thanks! Had some great times at the R&B — too bad I sometimes feel like I’m turning into one of those “Oh, the kids they got there these days, they don’t know what the hell they’re doin'” cranks. Not that I’m alone in that sentiment, but an ex-journalist curmudgeon is the very worst kind of curmudgeon there is.

Dillard is acquiring quit a resume and should be offered a job by TMZ right out of school. This guy has tabloid written all over him. Two headed calf exits spaceship in corn field, he’s really that good.

2012 tailback to watch:
Terrell Cason – Cairo
Cason played linebacker mostly last year but may have more upside at running back. Against Thomas County Central (and Ray Drew), Cason played significantly at RB and was the most dominant player on the field. (Despite playing both ways.) May not be a lot of attention on him now but those that have seen him run with the ball know he has a lot of talent. As Cairo graduated two running backs, expect him to get a lot of carries in 2012. (Many would say that he did not play RB much last year because the dropoff at linebacker from him to the next guy was much greater than the dropoff at running back.)
