Can you imagine the Florida press reacting in such a laid back manner if Corch Meyers had decided to close spring practice to the media?
And Muschamp hasn’t even had to mention Seat 37F.
When looking at Muschamp, I feel a bit like Obi Wan talking about Darth Vader. “He’s more Saban than Dawg now…”
That’s not a planet, it’s Charlie Weis.
“But I do understand the reasoning behind UF’s possible decision to shut things down.”
That ain’t gonna last long. Lot of the columnists down there fancy themselves like the New York boys. Will Stockdale is in for a rude awakening.
I think most coaches that come to Florida are at first taken aback by the passion and scrutiny that Florida football receives. Urban Meyer certainly was.
I guess Coach BOOM might not be as surprised as Meyer, given he played for and coached at SEC programs
I perceive the Florida media is a little more Yankee-fied than the other SEC states; a little more aggressive (with the exception of that wimp Meyer threatened in public). Add to that the population density and sheer number of reporters, and you have your extra scrutiny.
“Scrutiny”? Please. The pillowfight that is the AJC’s sports department is more intense than the UF media contingent. Secretly, they’re all hating the closing of spring drills and they don’t see any benefit to it, but they’re all afraid of angering the throne, so they won’t say anything. It’s the exact same situation as when Coach Urbz was there. You didn’t read a negative column about him until he was gone. Then all of a sudden they’re all big and bad and embracing the changes the new guy wants to make. What a joke.
Agreed, when considering the state media as a whole. The local Gainesville media is very compliant for Florida sports, which is the genesis of this thread. I gather that they have been brow beaten into submission over time, by both Spurrier and Meyer.
But the statewide Florida media is pretty damn intense when it comes covering UF sports
Mike, any thoughts on why Jeremy Foley would shift from the spread to a pro-style offense? I thought for sure Mullen would replace Urban.
When searching for coaches, I don’t really think Foley spends much time thinking about what kind of offensive or defensive philosophy they might bring to the table. I think his critieria goes something like;
1a.) Relentless recruiter
2.) Tireless worker
3.) No evidence of NCAA or integrity issues
Muschamp just do not like to show how confuse and lost the players will be with totally new scheme.
+1 This spring is not going to be pretty. Changing both sides of the ball will be a train wreck at least until fall. We limit the amount of practice the media can watch so I’m guessing Will is just channeling his inter-Saban.
Agree somewhat. Most Florida fans have low expectations for 2011 . Low relative to the usual “We are going to win it all and have a Heisman wnner” kind of expectations.
