I thought about doing a post about the offensive line, but realized it would be little more than rank speculation (except for the center position, of course). But if you’re looking for some of that, Seth Emerson and MaconDawg are on the case.
Bottom line: it’s a complete mess right now. Although at least we won’t be let down by experienced underachievers this season.

Get The Picture 
Maybe the fact that the starters aren’t settled will cause them to work harder in hopes of gaining a spot on the line. 3 starters seem set (at what position who knows for two of them) in Gates, Jones and Glenn. The other two are wide open. Friend is defiantly going to have to earn his paycheck this season if the Dawgs are to have any chance of getting back to SECCG.

The swirling sound you hear is our chances of running the ball well in 2011 going down the toilet. If Friend can get a top 5 OL out of these guys he is a miracle worker.

We’ll see. There’s some talent there. Losing Sturdivant is a blow, but, unfortunately, not unexpected. Given his history I was pessimistic about him making it through the season unscathed. It sure is terrible for him. To keep having to come back and rehab like that is rough.

If it had to happen, better now than in the first game of the season. Still time for the team to adjust. As for Sturdivant, poor guy can’t get a break.

Sturdivant has truly become a tragic figure to me. Played so well as a true frosh, had “can’t miss” written all over him, worked his butt off to get back on top, only to be smacked down twice more. Just doesn’t seem right for a young man who has done all that is asked of him, and kept his nose clean. I really hope he gets a few great breaks in life to balance the tough blows he has been dealt the past three years.
I know we are in full-scramble mode or a tackle again and wonder if any of you know what is going on with Harmon at this point. I know all the shuffling between offense and defense when he first arrived but he has been back at OL for some time now and I rarely hear his name mentioned. Any one what has happened, or if there is a shot for him this fall? That would be very disappointing if he never comes close to the potential he came in with.

How on Earth does one OL injury create Armageddon for the 2011 season? No doubt it hurts; I understand that. Has our OL recruiting really been that dismal?

Brent Benedict, Kolton Houston, Austin Long, A.J. Harmon, and Dallas Lee. All four star prospects with one to three years in the program. I don’t understand why the attitude is such that we have walk ons for back-ups.

Agreed. We’ve been adding 4 star O-line recruits by the busload. Nobody seems to pan out. WTF is going on?

I hate it for Trinton. I just hope it ain’t catchin’. Remember 2008? I still think this line can be very good. I have heard good things from Gates and Harmon lately. I don’t see it as a disaster yet, except for Trinton.

The no brainer is to move Gates to tackle and start Bean and Burnette at guards. Harmon would be the first off the bench at probably guard or tackle and if something happened to Ben then Burnette would go to center.
It is terrible for Trinton. I remember seeing him in front of Knowshon on a screen against Okie St. in ’07 and thinking, “Who is that big guy that can run like that?”
But we’ve got lots of talent and we’ve recruited much better in recent years.
