Under pressure

This is a pretty good list Pat Dooley’s compiled of this season’s biggest SEC pressure points.

I might have tossed something in there about Tennessee’s defense.  Anything you’d add?

      I actually think he gets a pass this season, for several reasons: (1) existing reputation; (2) he’s not Addazio; and (3) personnel issues due to switching schemes.

        Yea, good point. He has certainly toned down the rhetoric when he was hired, at least compared to when ND hired him.

        That said, we saw a lot of ineffective off tackle runs in the spring game. That brought back unpleasant memories of the Addazio dive play,

          I would put Muschamp on that list more than Weiss. If the offense falls on its face the HC will get most of the blame.

    I would think Ted Roof will be under more pressure than Malzahn. His offense was pretty successful in 2009, but Roof’s defenses have ranked 12th and 8th in scoring defense in 2009 and 2010, respectively. If Auburn is going to be competitive this year, it will need the defense to really step it up to take some pressure off the offense. They don’t have Newton to bail them out of huge deficits like they did last year.

    Isiah Crowell might be a good name for that list. The UGA coaching staff and fan base are expecting him to resurrect the running game this fall. Seems like a lot of pressure on an incoming freshman.

    I don’t think Crowell needs to run for fifty yard touchdowns…as long as he can get the first down. Keep drives going with 4 yard gains. Not easy but not too complicated. Just don’t keep plowing into the back of the O-line for a loss. Plays for a loss are drive killers. Our running backs can all break a long one. The problem was the 3 or 4 runs in a row where they don’t get anything. (and the fumble at the end when they do run well)

      In combination with those TE’s for money over the middle. Beeeeeaaaat their LB’s up! Then work over their DB’s and then break the long one and take it to the house.

    As a 2nd year DC at Georgia, CTG is under pressuer. His D was as effective as wet paper bag. Not 1 time did the 2010 UGA defense come up with a stop when one was needed. It also took his players an entire season to understand his scheme. With new players to fit his scheme (Jenkins at NT, Jones at OLB, Ogletree at ILB) he MUST prove that he has what it takes to be a DC in the monster known as the SEC.

    The SEC itself is a pressure cooker this season. Missy St won’t sneak up on anybody now, AU must replace their starting O line and most of their D line and D backs plus the most productive QB in their history. UT has to put a D together with baling wire and bubble gum. Both programs are being eyeballed by the NCAA. Arky needs a defense that can stop, well, something! UF has a new coaching staff and a QB that hasn’t lived up to expectations. SOS doesn’t know when and if Garcia will show up. Ole Miss has disapointed many people and I don’t see them being any better, no matter which circle the Right Rev’rent Nutt puts them in. CMR is trying to have a complete team for the first couple of games. That is, nobody injured or suspended. He knows that he has to turn the program around. The Mad Hatter needs a QB to step up and take charge. Bama is Bama and Saban is Saban. No pressure there at all. Yeah, right! The only coaches that can take a deep breath are UK and Vandy. The blessing of lowered expectations.
