Brian Kelly’s gold standard

Notre Dame’s head coach has an idea about what it’ll take to get his program some much needed street cred.

“Clearly, if I’m one of those average college football fans, I think I’m asking the same question,” Kelly told the group. “Notre Dame will be taken serious when they beat an SEC team.”

Only one glitch:  The Irish don’t have a game scheduled with an SEC opponent.

Tech was all proud of their two wins against Vandy a few years ago. I remember hearing how they were 3-1 VS the sec (2-0 v Vandy and 1-1 VS us) and that was a huge selling point for them.

Thanks for the compliment Coach, but all Notre Dame has to do is go 2-0 against anybody, and we’ll get smothered by ‘Return of the Fighting Irish’ stories.

He’s an average college football coach, so he should know what the average fan feels.

Does that include the average football fans in Montana?

“Hello, Kentucky, this is Notre Dame calling… oh, nothing, I was really just wondering if you had Vanderbilt’s number…”

Maybe they want in to the Chick-Fil-A kickoff game?

UGA vs nd would be a great cfa kick-off game. Or a home & home, as Nate says (below). Make it happen, Mr. McGarity.

I think that was a possibility at one time, but it went out the window when McGarity got us the home/home with Ohio State to kick off the next decade. Someone had indicated that they were talking to Michigan, Ohio State, or Notre Dame. Personally, I thought tOSU was the least interesting trip of the three, but I’ll be there in Columbus just the same. If the fast living hasn’t caught up to me yet, that is.
