Some say it is better to be feared than loved.

I don’t know if that’s true, but it sure comes in handy sometimes.

Mark Richt faces media scrutiny about his position on oversigning, and gently retreats.

“I’m just going to listen to what everybody has to say before I decide,” Richt said. “Sometimes you think you know the right answer, and then you hear someone else’s opinion or at least rationale.”

Well, one man’s opinion nobody heard yesterday (at least in public) was that of Nick Saban.  That’s because the media didn’t ask him a single question about oversigning.

“This is the greatest interview I’ve ever had,” Saban quipped. “Not one question about Alabama football.”

Refreshingly, although not unexpectedly, Les Miles took a different path.

Just ran into Les Miles in the lobby here. The LSU head football coach was already holding court with a trio of other reporters, so I quickly asked him if he had addressed roster management issues, and if he had to please repeat it.

“I said that there has to be an alligator handler in every class. In fact Troy has got the swamp people. We’ve got to make sure that we keep a quality contingent of free-spirited men around.”

I’m coming around to the feeling that Les Miles is a national treasure.

It’s not just that Saban wasn’t asked, he was the only person not asked. Anthony Dasher, from ugasports.com, said it was obvious that the bama media were protecting him and not letting anyone else ask questions. He had to run him down afterwards to get one question in. The response? “I’ve already addressed that” or something to that affect.

Here’s a big ten guys assessment of Slive’s proposal for what it’s worth.

Gotta love that med hardship chart at the end.

Les Miles is in fact a national treasure. I am glad he isn’t my coach, and I don’t want UGA to have to play them because too much weird stuff happens when you play LSU, but damn he’s fun. Fun to watch if you aren’t an LSU fan, his extra point fake is still the best play I have ever seen, and he is very quotable. Fun guy, if he isn’t your coach.
