I think it’s curious that Tech fan doesn’t realize that Tech football players are funneled into certain majors (M-train) and take certain classes at other University System of Georgia schools (Atlanta Metropolitan College, for example). And that this is organized by GTAA.

This IMG football team business just doesn’t pass the smell test to me. I think it’s great that the SEC is trying to crack down on the creep of agents and player “mentors” into the 7-on-7 process, and I hope they’ll go further.

This elimination of the kick-off thing is not brain surgery. Coin flip. The team that wins gets the ball at the 20 to start the game. Play from there. Same thing for the start of the second half only it is the other team that gets the ball. When somebody scores the other team gets the ball at the 20. Or 25. Or 30. Whatever the powers that be agree on.

That doesn’t take into account the need to get the ball back if you score with a minute left and you’re down by five. I am intrigued by the idea of 4th and 15 or 4th and 12 from a certain yard line and letting them punt, FG style Kick, or go for it as a substitute for the onside kick. I think it might be fun.

The other thing that could be done is have the scoring team punt from its 40 which is effectively the same as kicking off from the 30 as far as where the ball comes down. Make every player line up like a regular punt, too.

I think one of the suggestions was to just shorten the distance between the kickoff LOS. Make all but the kicker toe the line. Nobody gets a running start. How about going back to Rugby rules and let the KO team kick it out of bounds and just spot it there. The NCAA has been trying for years to keep the ball in play on the KO. If they moved it back to the 40 it would result in a touch back most of the time anyway. The NCAA don’t care or they would never have made the kids kick from the 30/35.
