Three of Steele’s power ratings call for Georgia to go undefeated in the regular season. The only other SEC team he lists with that chance is Alabama.
Boise State shows up next to Georgia, so I guess we’ll get an early answer on which of his projections has a chance.

The Dawgs , coming off a 6-7 season, haven’t even played one game yet. This kind of speculation is premature at best. If the dawgs win the first 2 games of the season THEN talk about going undefeated might be appropriate, not before.

Ah, Prevailing Wisdom. If only I could schedule my entire fall around it. I would love to find myself catching my usual bourbon buzz at Prevailing Wisdom in downtown Athens on a number of Saturdays, stumble to the Gator Bowl bathroom right after the Prevailing Wisdom halftime show in Jax, lose my voice after yelling “PREVAILING WISDOM” every third down on 11/12, and cap it off by booking travel and accommodations in New Orleans (or some other similarly attractive destination under the circumstances) through prevailingwisdom.com.

Prevailing wisdom tells me that Steele is wrong to the tune of 20-3 over the past 20 years. I wish it were not so, but them are the facts. How anyone could call for the Dawgs to go undefeated is beyond me (I would love to be so dead wrong on this).

This is in no way an endorsement of PS’ prediction for UGA, too many questions for me, and the month of June is the wrong time for these type discussions. But how can so many UGA fans be so defeatist about UF? I understand the early 90’s mismatches with talent at both the coaching and player level, we were destined to lose those games. But I don’t accept UF as a team I fear more than others. Good program, lots of talent, but nothing we cannot match-up to. Nothing. Bring it on. Our fans need to get off this, it spreads to the weaker ones. Take back Jax, starting this year. It was once viewed as our property, it can be again….but the attitude has to change.

I do not fear the Gaytors. Fear has long since past. I do believe that the Dawgs fear them though. I reside in a land where our beloved Dawgs begin each season 0-1. It may be mental. The pucker factor, whatever you want to call it. But the Dawgs most certainly have it when it comes to the trip to Jax. Until they reel off consecutive W’s in Jax, I will continue to believe we begin each season 0-1. I think the more realistic question is: why do you believe we are capable of beating UF?

Every journey begins with the first step. I this case that would be to win the GA-FLA game this year. That would make the most recent 5 year span 3-2 in favor of Florida which is approaching respectability. Also to win in 2012 on top of that would make it 3-3 for the last 6 years and also a 2 game winning streak. Hex over. Gotta win this year though. To answer your question: I believe that we have the better team this year.

I agree the illogical number of closely contested games we have found a way to lose can be attributed to attitude/doubt. It begins with the fans, has been absorbed by the coaches, and adopted by some on the team. We can begin by the fans getting over the negative vibes.
As to your question, I really don’t understand how you can even ask that? “Capable”? Really? How many of these games, beginning with last year hinged on one play that went the opposwite way? It isn’t like the majority of these were 30 point blowouts, so how do you feel we weren’t “capable”? A better question would be how could we have been so unfortunate. A handfull of breaks/calls/bounces and this would not even be a discussion. I am not whining, or making excuses, UF has had some fine teams over this span, and their players made the plays. But we are very competitive, and conceding the game makes no sense to me. I can assure you, the Gator fans may run their mouths about this but their team and coaching staff obviously don’t take the game for granted.

Has a squad that finished a season 6-7 ever witnessed such a rise in their stock during an off-season?
At the end of last year, the talk surrounding Georgia was “will Richt be fired?” “Has Georgia slipped into irrelevancy?”
I know why I’m optimistic, but I can’t understand how we’ve got so many people jumping on the UGA bandwagon after last year. It just doesn’t make sense.

I think there are three factors behind it:: (1) on paper, Aaron Murray is the best QB in the conference; (2) second year in the 3-4; and (3) favorable schedule.
I’m not convinced there’s enough on that list to overcome the problems which have plagued the program recently in just one season, but maybe I’m overreacting negatively. In any event, we’ll get a better handle on things in a couple of months’ time.

Actually the team looks like it is coming together well although I, for one, certainly would feel better if there was at least 1 tune-up game before the Boise game.

The recruiting class, the level of monetary donations, the returing talent at QB, the head in the sand. Or trying to put the dagger in the heart knowing that preseason expectations is one of UGA’s weaknesses.

Phil Steele was high on UGA in 2009 and in 2010. Obviously, he was wrong in 2009 and he was really, really wrong in 2010. What’s it going to take for people to admit that regardless of whatever prognosticative ability he might have for the rest of CFB (if he does have any at all), he has a giant gaping blind spot when it comes to Georgia?

And let’s make no mistake, Adelson won the lottery with that prediction. Any attempt by her to claim it wasn’t made out of her own prejudice, being a UF grad, wasn’t taken seriously by anyone.

Oh, Andrea. You found your proverbial nut and for that reason I will hate you for all of time, only a little less than Lane Kiffin and his 1-0 record vs. Georgia.
It’s not that Phil failed to predict that we’d have a very bad season. It’s that he predicted we’d have a very good season. According to the Irrational Fan lobe of my brain, Phil Steele’s positive predictions about Georgia are directly and negatively correlated with how we will actually preform. I mean, #9 nationally? JINX.

You heard it hear first…….Dawgs finish #1 in conference in total Defense and run defense. Pass defense improves b/c of greatly improved front line and addition of Jenkins. This, in addition to the offseason S&C program from hell, will ensure the accuracy of this prognostication.
