Drip, drip, drip.

What the hot seat hath wrought:

“I want to start by saying that I think Georgia has an excellent class going right now and they are the team to beat for five-star tackle John Theus of Jacksonville, Fla., and five-star running back Keith Marshall of Raleigh, N.C. — the top running back prospect in this class. With that, it has to be of some concern that Florida, Auburn, Alabama and others have come into the Peach State and gotten early commitments from prospects that the Bulldogs offered and wanted. With a good season on the field to quiet some of the rumblings about coach Mark Richt’s future, I think UGA could close as strong as anyone, but right now, the exodus of in-state talent has to be of some concern.”

The math doesn’t matter.  Nor does the fact that Richt’s in on some top-notch out-of-state talent.  The narrative says there is only one reason Georgia can’t close the borders right now.

And that’s just the polite way this recruiting flack puts it.  Imagine how Richt’s rivals are pitching this crap on the recruiting trail.

That was the real reason for the hot seat canard all along.

“pitching this crap”? If he didn’t go 14-12 over the last two seasons, he wouldn’t have to deal with this crap. Simple rule: Winning shuts people up.

I agree, winning shuts people up. But if you’re making the case against Right don’t play the recruiting card. Check out last year’s class c’mon man!

I wasn’t criticizing Richt’s recruiting. I was pointing out that, continuous articles stating that you are on the hot seat are going to happen if you are just a smidge over .500 the last two years.

You’re right! Richt is a bad coach b/c he can’t win ten games every single year for more than a decade in the toughest conf in college football. One losing season! Burn him!
I don’t care no other coach wins ten every year. Screw it. Gruden! He can do it. He never loses. Maybe Weiss? Look at all his SuperBowl rings. He never loses. Maybe we can entice Mack Brown over.

check out last year’s cotton prices. Ironically, Georgia recruited south Georgia better that they have in years. Just sayin’. Don’t be naive.

Yes, negative recruiting will find something to spew, but if you win than negative recruiting won’t be able to say that you are on the hot seat.

        • That’s not the message here. The message here is that Georgia’s recruiting is suffering because Richt is on the hot seat. That, in fact, is bullshit.

I will. Unless Richt goes 6-7 again or worse he ain’t goin’ anywhere unless he leaves voluntarily. All this speculation about it taking 9 wins or 8 wins with one of them being against FLA is hogwash.

I’m glad Richt has been very deliberate in offering recruits. They know exactly who they want and I’m confident we’ll close strong with the right group of recruits

The state of Georgia produces more FBS recruits per capita than any other state in the country. And, as of 3 weeks ago Georgia already produced many more signees than UGA had space for. Therefore, sez J.C. Shurbutt, Mark Richt is in trouble because he hasn’t erected a fence around the state of Georgia.

Politely, that’s a non sequitur. Actually,it’s 100% kaka del toro.

One way to look at it is: we’re in a single college recruiting state, like Tennessee and Louisina, only better.

So it’s Richt who is responsible for Georgia athletes signing elsewhere? So if Arkansas swignes (sic) a player that Paul is recruiting and Mark ain’t, then it is still Richt’s fault? This tolling of the bells (masculine for belles) seems contrived and orchestrated. What the hell is going on with this Twisted Sister’s reasoning? I thought Chip Towers was a friend of the program. Is he now the extoller of UGA recruiting or just plain toller?

A school can offer 25 kids a season (give or take per Saban math). There are more than 25 kids each year in the state of Georgia that go on to top notch college football. Per the critics, I guess the Dogs should get whichever 25 they want, and all the rest should agree to walk on or simply give up the goal of playing if they can’t make it at UGA. Nevermind that some kid in Columbus may want to try Auburn (which pays pretty well), or that some kid in Valdosta might be an FSU legacy.

This year should see 180 recruits go to D-1 schools. I don’t think UGA can sign all those if my math serves correct. I’m not worried about the 2012 class at all at this point. Win and it only gets better.

Does anyone think that Richt isn’t getting who he wants by talent and character when he is the one-on-one recruiter?

    Scenario: Richt speaking to a WR he wants;
“So, with the QBs we now have on board, what’s to keep you from being the next AJ? Remember he is the product of teaming with two QBs during his tenure. Won/Lost Record? Didn’t seem to hurt AJ!”

“If you want to play on our O-line right away, join our team. You won’t get this chance anywhere else in the SEC to make a difference right away!” Examples of two extremes.

I could go on and on, believe me. Making lemonade is part of his business. The last two yr record of W/L can be an advantage as Richt has already shown recruiting prowess after his first losing season. The “Dream Team” didn’t just fall into our lap. Hard work and persuasiveness by great recruiters produced them. They can continue getting the people that they need each year without some home-grown talent evaluators exclaiming that the guy they have watched in their hometown is what we need, but Richt and Co failed to get him. Pom de Rue! AJC counting the numbers as they leave the state–where were they last year with the prognostications? About as off course as they could get. Why they(recruiting pundits) still have a job is beyond me.

Proposal: Evertime we see this crap, let’s substitute every coach’s name in the SEC for Richt. You can write the same thing about all of them and their state recruiting base…only it hits them harder because our base is much larger and sustainable.

    Go Dawgs! Go Richt!

Houston Nutt is the guy who really should be on the “hot seat” of any of the present SEC coaches. And, sorry, I know they has only been the head men for 1 season but DD at UT and the Joker at UK didn’t exactly impress anybody last year either.

Shurbett just makes a fool of himself with this line of reasoning. As everyone but him seems to see, Richt cannot sign all the talent available, he does a great job getting those he wants, and his reputation makes him attractive to many top athletes outside the state. I want us to get a high percentage of the in-state talent we want, but I always want to fish in other fertile waters. UGA has been very successful in getting highly regarded HS talent who live outside the state, I always want that in the mix. So,,,,,what was his point anyway? Dude comes across as pretty weak as an analyst.

In state recruiting is one of the most over rated things ever. Murray, Orson Charles, Ben Jones Jon Jenkins Kwame Feathers are the ones off the top of my head that are out of state. Stafford Massaquoi Green Moreno…all out of state. I say we get talented players and not give a shit where they played HS ball

the problem with the “get the talent it doesnt matter where they play” is that it 100% matters where they play. Ideally you would like for all your guys to be playing major high school football in states where high school football matters…

You’d miss out on a lot of guys playing for small schools if you did that. Ideally you’d simply find the best talent available whether they play for Plant or Podunk HS in Montana. However, the ideal is rarely possible, so realistically you generally go after the guys easiest to judge, and those are the guys at major programs who play against a higher level of competition.

Come on. We got AJ and Mo Mass from the Carolinas and knowshon came from jersey. A player could come from Italy it doesn’t matter as long as they have talent. But by God let’s get someone just because they are from Georgia.

he can’t win unless he has better talent. That is what seperates coaches. Hell, everybody should be able to win with talent. They don’t always do. I have never seen a Mark Richt team beat a team that had more talent.

IF the Bulldogs win the first two games of the season, and that is a big IF in case you did not notice, then recruits will be wanting to flip to UGA because we would be the hottest team in the nation..All that hot seat talk will be changing over to can we win the national championship in 2011-2012..

    • As I was reading all the other comments I was thinking the same thing. Win those first two games and any coach that has been using Richt on the hot seat will be choking on their words. I also believe that while negative recruiting happens there are a good number of parents/recruits that can see through it. If you are having to talk negative about another program does that mean you can’t just convince me to come to your program because of its positives?
