Good thing he’s a genius.

‘Cause Paul Johnson’s wide receiver corps may be the worst bunch in D-1.

By the way, if wide receiver is only “probably” the weakest position group at Tech this season, this isn’t exactly shaping up as a banner season on the Flats.

I can’t believe more top rated receivers don’t want to come to Tech and catch 3 balls a year and block 98% of the time.

It won’t stop the ajc’s love affair with him. They’ll go on about how he overachieves with the players he does have despite a record that will leave tech fans wanting. Nevertheless, he’ll be branded the best coach in the ACC, and his lack of recruiting prowess wil continue to get a pass.

How much damage did WR Stephen Hill do to his career by signing with Tech?

    • Yeah… that was a horrible decision. A “team-best 15 [receptions]” is certainly not (I hope) what he had in mind when he opted for the Flats instead of Athens.

I can’t believe more quarterbacks don’t want to play for Cranky McJowls and get pounded by linebackers 25 times a game.

    • Johnson will find quarterbacks that want to play for him, rather than get labelled “athletes” and moved to WR or safety in college.

It’s wide receiver and offensive tackle where he’ll struggle to land front-line talent.

And, oddly enough, I think RB. Somebody with top-flight skills will want to play in another offense. Even spread teams are better NFL preparation than the option. No pass blocking, no blitz reading, running behind different blocking schemes, and no NFL playbook.

I’m sure that Tech’s lack of wide receiver talent won’t stop Johnson from panicking and completely abandoning his offense and start chucking wild passes down field despite having 1:30 to go at home and only needing 6 points to tie the game.

Demaryius Thomas is not walking through that door, fans. Calvin Johnson is not walking through that door, and Dez White is not walking through that door. And if you expect them to walk through that door, they’re going to be gray and old. What we are is young, overmatched, moderately talented, and we’re going to improve. Maybe enough to get to the Music City Bowl this year!

  8. I give PJ another lack luster year at Yech, they’ll can him and transition to a traditional offense. He has done more damage to Yech than Chan the Man ever did.

With Gailey’s players, though. Unless Johnson can get some recruits that can balance his offense, or pull a rabbit out of his ass, I tend to agree he’s on borrowed time. but it’s probably tied to when his contract will expire. I dont see them absorbing the hit of a buyout. How long does he have left, anyway?

Aren’t they paying their former basketball coach a ton of money to leave? They need butts in seats to finance firing two coaches in two years.

They still don’t get butts in the seat, evern with P.J. winning games and going to the CCG. Maybe an increase, but it’s not like this windfall of donors came forward. There was a lot of doubt that Tech could afford Hewitt’s buyout and they absorbed that. So who knows what they can really afford. I could see them riding this out until his contract is up.

In the span of a single decade, Tech is home to the worst starting quarterback in college football, and the worst starting pass receivers in college football. You have to work to achieve those distinctions.

If you will recall, Paul Johnson had his good years with Chan Gailey’s players. There do not appear to be quality recruits being signed at Tech now. How long can Johnson remain HC at GT when he cannot recruit effectively? The real problem for Tech is that Tech got cleaned out by Paul Hewitt. Tech has no dough to buy out Johnson and then hire another coach. Bad situation at Grant Field. Blame former Tech AD David (no)Braine who got Tech into the buyout situation.
