Tentative 2013, 2014 schedules

SicEmDawgs has the details here.

2014 Georgia Football Schedule (Tentative)

  • 08/30 – Clemson
  • 09/06 – at Arkansas
  • 09/13 – at South Carolina
  • 09/20 – Open Date
  • 09/27 – Vanderbilt
  • 10/04 – Tennessee

  • 11/15 – at Auburn

I would say we are witnessing the McGarity-zation of the football schedule:  two open dates each season and a softer post-Cocktail Party schedule.  There are trade-offs, of course.

I really like slipping the North Texas and South Alabama games in before tough conference road games, though.

  1. I think we get two open dates any time we play our first game in August.

If I have to watch the Dawgs play a cupcake, I just assume it happen in November… Early September in Athens can be brutal.

Awesome. Always like to have the open date before the WLOCP, but improvements include bringing back Clemson, and not opening SEC play with the ‘Cocks.

    • I concur about Sakerlina. Moving them back a week in the schedule is good, even if it just means Spurrier can’t hold back in game one, planning for UGA in week two.

  4. Add Clemson to the OOC slate, and play all four SEC West marquee programs over the course of two seasons? Those are some fine football schedules right there, and anyone with concerns about the FCS schools on the bill should instead consider the records of the FBS schools playing in the other 11 games.

If this is what McGarity-zation is all about, you can count me a fan.

@ LSU, @ UT, Alabama in three straight weeks? Ouch.

Also, I’m not a fan of cupcake scheduling but if you’re going to schedule a cupcake, schedule a freaking cupcake. Bringing in Appy State is a lose-lose. You don’t get much notoriety from beating them because you’re supposed to, but it’s a tough game, and you very well could lose it.

    • The 2013 schedule is just brutal. The stretch you mentioned, plus the opening three-game stretch crazy difficult. Four road games out of the first seven, and two of the home games are against Sakerlina and Alabama. Whoever the coach may be (still holding out hope it’s Richt) will have his hands full trying to navigate that schedule with fewer than three losses.

Two straight open dates before Kentucky. That’s two losses Ashley Judd can count on

I would be happy to console Ashley following all Cat losses, but following the UGA wins would especially “satisfying”….particularly for me.

Mac, you may want to revisit that thought. She takes those UK losses pretty hard and kind of let’s herself go

“letting go”….just exactly what I had in mind. Plus, she understands what UGA having an off-week to prepare for KY will mean. It will cause her to be totally submissive because she will expect to be dominated that week by guys wearing R&B.

Out of four open dates, two are before KY, and one is before Vandy – with none before FL. I sure would like to see better use of the open dates than that. Or maybe I should just be glad there are four open dates in two seasons and shut up…

I think that UGA fans have battered woman syndrome right now…half the people think these are the best schedules since sliced bread, the others are already counting the loses…

While I agree that having an off week before Jax is ideal I don’t think UGA has much choice in that matter as the league sets the conference schedules and McGarity can then fill in the blanks with the out of conference schedule. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the SEC set the conference schedule and teams can only make requests?

I believe you are correct. But isn’t it funny how Florida’s “request” to have an off week before The Annual Road Game has so often been honored? I wonder if UGA made simliar requests that were ignored or if they just never (or rarely) bothered to ask. Either way, the answer isn’t exactly comforting.

I would assume that would rectify itself w/ McGarity at the helm. He would have been the one to request the off weeks at UF and certainly would put an emphasis on it at UGA.

There’s a little more to it than that. Heh, heh.

Frankly, I would like to see Florida’s schedule and open dates for the same two years before I start pontificating about our new AD. If Florida continues to get off every damn year and we cannot find a way to at least even this out, I seriously question his effectiveness. Has anyone seen the Gators’ schedule for these two seasons.

Both of those are infinitely better than the BLECH-TASTIC schedule we get next year with UT and Tech being the only decent home games.

If this type of scheduling produces Championships, so be it. But if we continue to win 8 or less while having to pay for these games, Sanford is going to start looking like Bobby Dodd for a Noon kick against Duke.

That is being optimistic. TN is decent; GT is an OOC mid-major and not worth a Thanksgiving weekend disruption. Lousy, lousy schedule

After the news of the pro combat unis we’ll wear in the dome opening weekend, we may be in for a real McGarity-zation of the program. I’ll trade it, though, if a few titles are down the road…

These schedules just look…. weird. I dunno, two bye weeks is throwing me off. Agree with others that I would prefer to use one before UF.
