It looks like the Georgia-South Carolina game will get off to a breathless start, if the new Sanford Stadium scoreboard has anything to say about it.

WTF? Our defense gives up 14 points in the first quarter??? I’m not sure this Grantham guy is going to cut it.

And they’ve got the ball again. Hopefully, it’s on their 25 and not ours.

I’m sure the scoreboard’s going to look great, but I really wish they’d gone up on the size of it a little bit. It looks to me like it’s basically going to be the same scoreboard, just brighter.

I disagree. Any stadium with a huge scoreboard (turner) just pacifies fans. I’m against piped in music and big scoreboards. Just give me the band and the score.

I’m with Spence on this one. 1
Also, I find that a bigger scoreboard distracts from the drunken fans and inevitable alcohol farts that ensue…

Truth.
I fear that a more advanced scoreboard will only encourage those individuals who design the “UGA behind the Big Mac” “games” for the audience. As if I’m thinking about a Big Mac after fried chicken and smoked ribs…

During the game, they’ll likely show a few full screen replays (after TDs, etc.). The scoreboard will look enormous for those. I think it’s a nice size. When Texas put in Godzillatron, it really took away from the view of the backdrop. I’d hate to do that in Athens.

Crowell scored 5 TDs in the 1st quarter.

Yeah, the difference is the whole thing can be a screen now. Maybe the clock will work. It mystifies me when it doesn’t. I mean, clock only has to work for one hour six days a year. Is it that hard?

For the purists living for the nostalgia of the past, that would be great if every other school lived that way too. But this is just as much a recruiting tool as anything else. Kids want to see an electric atmosphere when they visit on gameday.
Now having said that, we need some taste and decorum in here. Personally, I have no problem with the video montage to get pumped before the game and killer A/V when showing replays, but between kickoff and the last whistle, that belongs to the band.

On a similar note, Richt is also on record saying the first two UGA games are the toughest Georgia will play all year. Wonder what the other 10 teams on the schedule think about that?

They probably think they are lucky to not have to play their toughest games first and get to relax with a half dozen cup cakes before getting to the main course…I call it the Charlie Wies schedule.

All snark aside, given what we know from last season and this preseason, name another game that is tougher. I look at it this way, who on UGAs schedule would be favored over Boise or USC?

Go ahead and get bent out of shape, Mike. It’s not like Florida needs bulletin board material to kick our ass, so who cares if they get some?

Hey, I understand we must keep up with the times, but, for old times sake, go to the Locos parking lot behind Brumby Hall. There stands the old scoreboard from the west end zone – complete with the Texaco ad. The only thing missing, and the best thing unfortunately, is the junkyard dog swinging the piece of wood with the nail in it. Now THAT was a scoreboard.
