Aloha.

It’s become fashionable to dismiss the results on the basis of the opponent, but Bill Connelly suggests that Georgia’s Sugar Bowl win over Hawaii was one of the most dominating bowl performances of the last six seasons.

Maybe they did deserve that #2 ranking after all.

Of course they deserved the #2 ranking! It’s only “fashionable” among Tech nerds to say otherwise.

It’s also very fashionable among a certain faction in the Dawg fanbase to discount the results of the game because of what happened the next season. I naturally do not pay as much attention to other teams’ fans as our own, but I don’t know if I’ve ever heard any other team’s fan talk down a 30 point bowl victory.

What I always tell people when the topic comes up is that there is a difference between a “disappointing” season and a “bad” season. The 2008 season was a disappointment because of the high pre-season expectations. But I would never consider a 10-3 record that followed an 11-2 record as “bad.” The three losses were particularly painful for different reasons and heightened the sense of disappointment. The 2009 season was mediocre and 2010 was bad.

But even if I thought that 2008 was “bad” I would not agree with the idea that it somehow meant that the 2007 team was overrated in the final analysis.

The 2007 UGA team was the best team in the country that year, particularly at the end of the season. Fate and ESPN talking (empty)heads kept that team from playing in and winning the BCSNCG.

We should have been number one, but …..oh well, such is life.

One of my favorite hits ever in this game. Marcus Howard was a beast.

Knowshon scoring two quick TDs, blowing a kiss to the crowd, and then taking himself out of the game might have been one of the most pimp football moves ever.

Also, Connelly mentions that LSU/U Peach Bowl. LSU 2005, such an odd bunch. Only loss in the regular season is a blown lead against a crummy Tennessee team. #3 in the nation going into the SECCG. Then get dropkicked through the uprights by Georgia and are bumped all the way down to the Peach Bowl.

Just glad it was bowl games. Otherwise the “Blackout” game with Bama would have been right up there.

That would fall under “most dominating halves”. I don’t think an 11-point win could in any way qualify as one of the most dominating performances in that regular season, let alone over six seasons.

In the second half of that game UGA almost did to Bama what Bama did to UGA in the first half.

Yeah, but that’s only because of Nick Saban’s well-known penchant for easing up on an opponent after securing a big lead, right? Right?

When you have Fox commentators whining about the fact that you’re running up the score on poor little Hawaii when you clearly are not, you are taking care of business.

Most UH fans still remember that Sugar bowl against UGA very well. They still sell the Sugar Bowl memorabilia in grocery stores here on Maui
