This place… is the beat of my heart.

Turns out it’s not impossible to put out a classy, moving tribute to UGA.  A little REM never hurts.

Eat our dust, GTGs.

If those two were trying to be comedians, it would be way cooler… but I don’t think that’s the case.

That UGA video is fantastic. Wish it were longer.

They ought to use this video on TV instead of those insipid commercials about UGA they now show-what an embarrassment to the University of Georgia those things are. They look like they were done by middle school students.

This ad guy says that’s the best college spot he’s seen since GSD&M did all those Walter Cronkite voice-over spots for UT-Austin a few years back. Seriously… it’s amazing. They nailed it strategically and executionally. Outstanding work.

    Senator (or anyone, really),
Any idea if this has actually been picked up by UGA to air during games?

Remind me again why our marketing braintrust insists on playing British Invasion bands from 3 generations ago to get people fired up before games, and can’t seem to find a way to work in a little REM and/or other local artists?

To borrow a phrase, trust me when I say you know the pathway to my heart.

Why not combine The Who sound with a local Athens band?

They could play some wicked riffs by Maserati.

They are an Athens product and borrow from some of the more obscure elements of The Who and Pink Floyd (IMHO).

I think the problem with that is that the best Maserati songs are kind of slow, epic builds, and no one wants to spend 6-7 minutes before the team comes out.

Because the lion’s share of contributing alumni know The Who and have no idea who REM is or why that guy is wearing eyeliner.

I’d be all for it, but I can’t really think of a single REM song or other local band’s song that would work to fire up a football stadium. Granted, I’m also part of the group that thinks that Baba O’Reilly has no place in a football stadium, and I go into each season hoping against hope that it won’t be at Sanford Stadium when I get there. Just my opinion, you either need something aggressive and angry, or something instrumental and moving (like the movie score they play under the first part of the “It’s Saturday In Athens” video).

“Everybody Hurts” would work for our recent football product…

Maybe “Driver 8” during the AJ suspension last year.

        And the train conductor says
“Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but we’re still a ways away”

Then later in the season, we could have gone with “Can’t Get There From Here”

Youtube “Right Hand on My Heart” by The Whigs. GREEEEAAAT song by an Athens product with some commercial success and should definitely get you where you need to be.

“Superman” would totally pump me up.
        I am Superman, and I know what’s happening . . .
        Good stuff.

How bout “Shiny Happy People” for all us “Disney Dawgs”

This might cause head explosions for ‘JDawgs’, ‘Thomas Brown’, ‘The Original Cynical in Athens’ and ‘Mr College Football Returns’.

+1. That’s the one that I had in mind. Somebody else also suggested Fly Me Courageous by Drivin’ and Cryin’. Not a huge fan of theirs but I do think that song would work well. How about a few bars of Your Own Private Idaho during the BSU game. That would be hilarious if the band could somehow incorporate that into their routine.

They could play some extended Of Montreal cuts to annoy opposing teams’ offenses.

Ummmm….there is at least one outstanding band. Has won numerous awards. All alumni know them. Pretty good with songs to fire up the crowd.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the UGA Redcoat Marching Band!

I know we can’t all agree on everything, but thought I’d throw it out there. Athens band, has good drum beat, and crescendos to something that gets you pumped up (Obviously, I am not musically inclined so I have no idea how to technically describe a song……or spell).

I think the greatest thing would be to bring back the electric guitar(s) and drum set back to the platform in front of the students/band. You would not need The Who or R.E.M. I’m just sayin’

I never understood how the home of the Peabody Awards could make promo spots that sucked so hard. This one is pretty good. I’d like to see more along this line.

UT (with Cronkite) and Michigan with the capsule orbiting the moon are two of the best promos I’ve seen. Ours looked like a freshman journalism project, until this one. Good work.

Why O Why have we not had an artist update “Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs”?

+1 on a new “Dooley’s Junkyard Dawgs”! Not to replace the original, cause you can’t, but to pay tribute to it. UGA alum Danger Mouse of Gnarls Barkley could produce, former JB band leader and trombonist Fred Wesley to arrange and play some real funk — backed by the Redcoat Band. Man, that would just be awesome!

guys, thanks for the kind words. i am one of the four guys “bulldog collective” that put the chapel bell spot together. in fact, i was just in athens tonight showing the spot and speaking to j-school students – ate at the last resort afterwards! FB chapel bell blew up – 5000 likes in just 24 hours. we also spoke to bertis from rem tonight, they just sent the link to their email fan list of 75k+ it’s been great to work on – our goal all along was just to do something simple, emotional that bulldogs of all ages could be proud of. it will air on all uga televised sporting events – not just football. not sure if it will play in stadium tho. as for in stadium songs, junkyard dogs is a classic, but when i was in school it was “another one bites the dust” and “whip it” – classic times indeed.
