One of ESPN’s primary college football analysts sees big things in store for Florida this year. It’s because of all that talent some guy bequeathed to Will Muschamp.
“I think Florida’s going to be one of the most underrated teams,” said former coach Urban Meyer on an ESPN teleconference. “I think they’re loaded.”
Of course, that’s easy for Meyer to say after leaving the program following an 8-5 season last year. While he kicks off his broadcasting career with Chris Spielman at the Akron vs. Ohio State game on Sept. 3, the Gators start the Will Muschamp era with Florida Atlantic coming to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
“If John Brantley gets some help at receiver and their running backs stay healthy, I think they’ll be good,” he said. “The defense will be outstanding with those young defensive linemen.”
Okay, so the Corch-gets-credit-if-they-win, Muschamp-gets-blame-if-they-lose meme is nicely set up there (of course, that begs the question of how you explain last year’s record… wait a minute… Addazio!). How many of his fellow talking heads do you think Meyer will have singing the same tune by season’s end?

He is the best coach that has ever graced God’s fresh air by breathing it, and none of you guys can say different. I’ve noticed that men now are missing a second rib, and that is the rib God used to make Myer and Tebow.

You are referring to Shands Children’s hospital in Gainesville, aren’t you?
Feel like I’m chopping my cojones off, but I agree with him about FU. Brantley won’t be under Crier’s system this year and will be in one he is most familiar with. The 4-5 star players are still there and they are righting the ship similar to another team with which we all are familiar. The game in Jville won’t be any different this year as far as player competition is concerned, but hopefully greater desire will make us take back this series. Don’t anyone begin to take FU for granted.

Actually, I was thinking about the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) suite at the new state-of-the-art Brain Stimulation and Dehydration Center at the University of Florida College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry in Gainesville. But I was probably wrong about that because Irvin is smiling in the picture and a smiley face is not usually an immediately recognizable side effect after incoming ECT

I like the way they have changed the Electroshock Therapy (EST) to the ECT. Actually, the shock part is more palatable than the convulsive part. If you ever saw anyone arch their back and begin convulsing while biting through a mouthpiece and waiting to take their first breath you really wouldn’t even wish it on your worst enemy, including Crier. Strapping down tight can cause broken bones, so it’s better that an insulated big guy lie crosswise to help prevent injury during the convulsing. I was that guy one summer (’58-’59) while working in the Emergency Room of a sizeable hospital in Sowega. Barbaric? Yes. More effective than drugs at that time? Yes. Still can’t believe it remains in use.

One patient in recovery began talking while I was monitoring and told some interesting small adventures he had had with a friend. When he mentioned Jack London, I didn’t put it together , but part of my monitoring in recovery was to take notes that may be of value to the psychiatrist. He informed me later that the Jack London referred to was indeed the author of “Call of the Wild” and that the patient had indeed been a friend of London’s when he (the patient) was young. The therapy had opened up a passage in his memory that was productive. Yes, it most certainly does work.
Weeks later, same patient. Heart stopped during shock therapy. Started again with paddles, but he was never to undergo that violent a treatment again. Fortunately, he had a breakthrough of his core problem and was treated effectively.
Think we could use it to free up drivers license, warrants for speeding and failure to appear in court memories?

I thought the Senator had already posted an article that indicated the Zooker left the Corch with a lot better lot than the Corch left Muschamp. Either way, Corch’s ego wouldn’t let him admit that to be the case. I would however, like to see him get called out on it should the season go south.

I agree with Meyer in that I fully expect Florida to be flying under the radar initially but you’ll see a champion by year’s end. The fact is this, our system is superior to the other Southeastern Conference schools. We have had and always will have: more talent, better coaches, more support, the best facilities, the best AD, the best academics, the best weather – an embarrassment of riches. With the addition of defensive-minded Muschamp and a brilliant OC in Weiss, there is absolutely no reason for Florida to not win 10-11 games this year.
The train continues to roll boys and it ain’t slowin’ down, so wipe the drool of your chin and get ready for your annual blowout in Cowford.

I am on record as expecting a fairly rough year for Florida. (No matter what the other “Mike” says.) I am also on record for being a Meyer supporter, his performance in his last year notwithstanding. I have no problem with Meyer making positive public about Florida. I do not think it puts any additional pressure on Muschamp. I mean come one. How much extra pressure can there be, coaching at a place where the last coach won two NCs and where another won one?
Most Gator fans realize this year might be tough. So no matter what Meyer says, Muschamp gets a bit of a pass this year. But by year three, I think most Gators expect at minimum a SEC berth

I looked it up. Mississippi State is 4-4 against the Gators their last 8 games (the teams do not play every year). Could it be that playing the Gators home and away rather than on a “neutral” field next door to the Gators’ campus has helped the “other Bulldogs?”

If I had to guess, I would say that MSU and Auburn have been the most successful against UF since Richt was hired. Seems like everyone else’s record isn’t much better than ours. (Not that that makes me feel any better.)

Your comment piqued my curiosity so I looked it up to see exactly how all SEC teams have been faring against Florida. Bear in mind that the West teams do not play Florida every year so some of the games go a few years back. Florida is beating the second division SEC East teams every year (Vandy and UK). UT has lost the last 6 in a row to the Gators but before that was basically splitting wins with them historically. We know how UGA has been doing. USCe is 2-6 against them for its last 8 games but is 2-3 against them for its last 5. A win this year would make USCe 3-3 with them for the last 6. The West is more problematic for Florida. As noted above, Mississippi State is 4-4 against them. Ole Miss is 3-1 for its last 4 games against them. Auburn is 3-5 but 3-0 against them for their last 3 games. LSU is 4-4 against them for their last 8 games. Bama is 4-4 for its last 8 games with the Gators but 3-2 for the last 5. So much for the myth of the “invincible” Gators. The teams we compare ourselves to and generally compete against for championships are splitting with the Gators or beating them. I wonder why UGA does so poorly against the Gators when these other teams do well? Could it be that we play the Gators as an away game every year while everybody else plays them home and away? Just askin.’
