Throwing down the gauntlet, with manners.

Brandon Boykin is such a polite young man.

I hope that was a hacker, our players have to be smarter than that….don’t they? Even if you think it son, don’t say it. Since we wear Nike crap you should be familiar with this……Just Do It This ain’t The U.

Question…is BSU using a rugby style punter? Seems this leads to shorter kicks, but fewer return chances.

In order to kick-off more than once in the game, BSU will have to score. So maybe Brandon should concentrate on shutting down their reciever. I’d prefer an All-America CB to an All-America KR.

Call me crazy, but I like it. They’re a good team. But I see no reason to be scared of them. Just make sure you back it up, 2.

I predict he will take one to the house but it will be called back on a taunting penalty. We’ll throw a pick six on the next play.

Being mouthy doesn’t indicate toughness, or talent. Just low class. The only mouth that ever lived up to his own, self-created hype, and is remembered favorably is Muhammad Ali. A big mouthed chess player would be just as unbecoming. I really dislike what sports, and sports fans, have sunk to. Maybe old-fogey to you, but not only did I not do it, I taught my children the same way.

Good Lord, Mac. It’s a kids game and kids are playing. He’s confident…and I love it.

Boykin has been nothing but class his whole career. Let him fly!

I’m not sure if you are referring to public trash talk or trash talk in general, but I think there are some more great ones with big mouths. Michael Jordan, for one, was supposedly the biggest trash talker in the NBA. Deion Sanders was arguably the reason we have people like TO and Ochocinco today, and he just got into the HOF. My point is, they could be doing a lot worse like committing felonies. I don’t personally like to trash talk, but I don’t think it’s low class. If a player can’t handle someone playing psychological games on the opposing team, then it’s his own fault. Probably why Ray Lewis keeps his mouth shut against Brady and Manning.

Larry Bird was supposedly unbearable. He’d tell the other player where on the other end of the court where he was going to shoot from, then go down and drain it from that spot, and then talk shit.

Look, Boykin didn’t say anything inherently disrespectful, just talked a little smack. Mac, chill.

For that matter, listen to Stafford in his injured shoulder game with the Lions where he was miked up. He talked trash throughout.

It’s a game played by young men. Just like most of us don’t like the Pro Combats, we have to remember, this is their game, for them, and we are just spectators. Plus, every great kick returner had this type of trash talking edge to them. Looking forward to him backing it up!

You’ve obviously never played competitive chess, those guys talk as much smack than anybody. I played in both the Southern and National championships in Atlanta and Philly, and I’ll tell ya if there has ever been a sport where psychological warfare is employed, it is chess.

Awesome! So smack talk is in every game. “Man, I dare you to go up that ladder, I’m gonna chute yo a’ right back to the start line.”

This is a great comment. It shows confidence, which is something our guys have been lacking since 2007 or so.

Based on the comments, I’m beginning to realize that most of the readers here are old and tired.Either that or you’ve never competed in your lives. I’ve played in tournaments and competitions my whole life, and this type of trash talking is part of the game. As long as you play a clean game, you can say whatever you want.

Get a pair. This is football.

I can’t believe the amount of negativity here! It’s Babe pointing to the bleachers, people. Mr. Boykin might be the best KR in college right now – how can you say “back it up on the field?”

Hell, now there’s that much more chance BSU _will_kick it to our guy. Take every advantage you can, I say. Also, quit whinging, support the team, and Go Dawgs!

Babe Ruth calling his shot? Poppycock. Everyone knows that chirping, preening, boasting, taunting, and talking smack didn’t happen in the old days. It didn’t come along until these damn kids with their comic books and sugary cereal started messing everything up and playing on my lawn.

Reverse psychology of Throw me in the briarpatch…. I’m sure BB is baiting them into kicking to BS so he can execute the perfect throwback across the field to BB kick-off return…. you just never know… although admittedly I hope this particular hypothesis is not accurate nor ultimately supportable..(unless it goes for 6, of course)

It’s embarrassing how many people disapprove of this. You do understand that the standards of sportsmanship in golf do not apply to all other sports, right? He’s disrespecting no one; and of course, he’s right: Boise wants nothing to do with a guy who is clearly one of the best return men in college football.

    Preach, Mr. Boykin.

The only time it’s wrong to open your mouth is when you don’t back it up. if he gets stopped at the 18 or tries to bring one out 6 yards deep and it results in a disaster we’ll say he should have kept his sewer shut. If he totes it 100 on the first touch he’ll be a legend. No one remembers Joe Namath for passing on a question about the outcome if SB III do they?

Trash-talking was cool when it didn’t happen quite as often. Ali, Namath, and Messier all did it and became legends. Those guys really meant it, though. Athletes in recent years do it so often that it seems more likely they’ll end up making themselves look foolish. Maybe Boykin will make good and have a great game. Even then it seems a bit cocky vs. confident. But if Peterson opts to throw deep on him instead and he gets beat for the score…

It’s been a very long time since our guys acted like they were the bully on the playground, we need more of this attitude who knows the players might accidently convince themselves that they should be a dominant team in the nation.

I’m not surprised by this, but it’s just more bulletin board material for Boise. Like the ’05 game wasn’t enough, now they have one of our best players mouthing off.

Kids are stupid, but that’s nothing new. Make sure you get the job done Bam Bam and all will be forgiven.

It’s not even rude or disrespectful trash-talk. He didn’t say “I’m the greatest that ever lived, and I feel sorry for your poor horsies who will have to try to cover me”. He didn’t say Boise State was a second-rate program, or that Georgia’s going to dominate. He said with the playful cockiness of a confident man, that he’d love it if Boise kicked to him. Everyone knows their strategy will be to avoid him. He’d like them to give him a shot or two to run one back. What horrors! Bulletin board material? Boise’s going to say “Man, this kick returner doesn’t respect us! He wants to get on the field and compete with us. How dare he???” This is not da U, indeed!

I don’t even see how it’s “trash talk,” unless we define trash talk as ANY conversation about a competitive endeavor other than simply complimenting your opponent. Which would, of course, be a pretty dumb way to define “trash talk.”..
