Thursday night football would never work at UGA. Too many fans from outside the Athens area, no parking on campus, the ACC-ish feel of Thursday nights, etc.

I just realized how well Radokovich knows his fanbase. Scheduling GT for last night meant he didn’t have to compete with dragon-con for attendance at the home opener.

In general, I agree that Georgia football is a Saturday passtime. But I would allow for the very infrequent exception, if the occasion was clearly a special one, such as opening the CFB season against a high-profile opponent (as opposed to Spurrier’s monkeyshines with Mississippi State during the Croom years, or NC State – both stupefying dull games). I would have had NO problem at all if our Kickoff Classic vs Boise State (ranked 14 places higher than we are in the opening polls) had been last night, instead of brainless ESPN airing it simultaneously when the only higher profile game of this weekend. Those who are
old enough to remember Clemson under the lights on Labor Day 1982 will understand. And those of my era who recall Dawgs vs GnaTs on Thanksgiving Night 1971 will understanbd as well.

Agreed. I’m for a “little” flexibility on this. A big enough game (like tomorrow’s) would be fine with me, as long as it’s a headliner nationally. Labor day or Thanksgiving (prefer the day after Thanksgiving) would be okay with me too. But a game like MSU’s or UK’s last night – definitely no.
Of course, Adams says “no Tursday games” today, but tomorrow the wwl will wave a few bucks under his nose and he’ll change course instantly.

Yes we did, including the famous ass whipping game at the Joke by Coke in 1994, where a Tech player started a fight on the UGA sidelines.

Thanksgiving is different. That’s when we’re supposed to give thanks for football.
But in general, I agree (just this once) with Adams. No Thursday games, and no Pam Ward.

We used to play two games vs Tech on Thanksgiving weekend. One was Freshmen only and the other was the team without the Freshmen. It was traditional to have UGA vs Tech, Neb vs Ok and USC vs UCLA(?) on Thanksgiving weekend as well as Mich vs Penn St. Those were the only games available, one at the time. But I’m old and my memory’s poor. Where am I ? Who won the game?

I think it is a period of a few days before exams when there aren’t any classes and you are supposed to be studying for exams. I don’t ever remember having them at Georgia (’91-95), but I heard about them at other universities, especially overseas.

Reading day is the day after the last day of classes and before finals begin. Generally, it is meant to be completely free of obligations to the university.

No to Thursday night home games. It is practically impossible for UGA all thing considered.
If we were ever going to do it, then opening the season at Stillwater was the time to do it.

Never say never is right, and this was the perfect time for a Thursday night game. I understand not playing home games on Thursday, makes no sense, but this game should have been played last night. The additional two days to prepare and rest up for SC with a neutral site game was a no-brainer. If Adams stood in front of that option it was worse than the other decisions people dislike him for. Missed opportunity, may not amount to much but it could be a difference maker for an SEC East title edge.

I realize this is the perception of many, and I wouldn’t advocate we make this a regular habit, but I suggest you take a look at the many powerhouse programs that have played an occasional game on “Thursday” (that most Dawg fans want to grouped with as elite) and get back with me. For those who think a specific day of the week is sacred (other than Sunday), we have played a few bowl games on Thursday and this feels more like a bowl to me. All subjective, we can share different opinions and still be Dawg fans but calling any program that has a game on a Thursday a loser is a little over the top. We do agree about the Nerds though, jut not for that reason.
