Numbers game

I have no idea what Georgia’s offensive gameplan for tomorrow will look like, but after reading this and this, I’d sure enjoy it if Mike Bobo gave a few people the finger by calling a play putting Crowell and Smith on the field together.

With neither wearing #1.

Good grief, senator, was Bobo not clear? It’s unpossible!

intellectually, i know you’re right about all this jersey business. but i henceforth stubbornly refuse to grant the amount of credit to our coaches that you’re granting them until they demonstrate on-the-field creditworthiness or at least until mike bobo stops breathing through his goddamn mouth, whichever comes first.

Mike Bobo gives us all the finger with every 3rd and long draw play and spread option he calls

Look, I get it. Bobo sucks as an OC, I’m not arguing the point. I agree, they’ve given us very little hope or reason for optimism in game planning and management. But c’mon, I really can’t believe the coaches are that stupid to be held hostage by numbers. I will gladly eat crow on Sunday, but I just see it as smoke and mirrors. Gotta be…

Didn’t both players say in the off season they’d change numbers? WTF?

If they both change numbers then we will not have a single player wearing #1, how can the opposing defense spot who is going to take the sprint end around hand off or the cigar store indian handoff into the middle of line?

      Oh the humanity.

Yes, they did, but the pot stirrers and interlopers never got the word. Like a political party, all are spinning the facts and reporting it on Fox News where the misinformation is pounded into ignorant brains to the point of believability. If a Georgia fan didn’t get the news during the summer (that they both have volunteered to change numbers) then that fan will be victimized with twisted information to make his/her game experience that more unenjoyable. Good luck on that one.

I don’t see what the big deal is. Outside of that end around by Boykin last week what Bobo’s playcalling is not dynamic enough to truly utilize Smith anyway outside of one play which will never be used again during the game unless it fails miserably.

  9. Perhaps this is is just misdirection on the parts of Richt and Bobo right before a pivotal conference game. If that’s the case, fine.

If it’s not, then what we’re seeing is a case study in how empires fall.

Apparently, Cal has solved the issue by having one of the players wear a velcro patch with another number on it for only the plays that both are on the field.

    From the uniwatch blog:

“Aaron Wiens got some good video of Cal’s Marvin Jones removing his Velcro No. 49 “jersey,” which he wears on punts. “His real number is 1 but there are two 1s on the punt return team, so he wears the Velcro jersey for punt returns,” explains Aaron”

Unfortunately, the link to the video is no longer working.

we used to slip screen every third play, do we still have it in our arsenal? or excuse me, our stick-pile?

We’ve done a really lousy job on screen plays over the past year or so.
I’d like to see more sustained drives, myself. Look at how we scored last week. Sure, big plays are great, but if you can’t sustain a drive and score points, the Defense is just going to be too gassed to stop anyone. It’s how you end up losing 35-31 or something like that.

So is the concensus that everyone is overreacting to something that has (likely) already been addressed?

Or is it that everyone is overreacting to something that is not a big deal? It certainly seems like a big deal.

Actually, both. What part about Smith already offereing to change numbers does not address this? It is a non issue, plain and simple. If they want the guys on the field AT THE SAME TIME, they’ll make it work. Bobo responded to a stupid question with a stupid answer. It would be a valid complaint if players weren’t allowed to switch jerseys during the game. But, seeing as that isn’t the case, this is all just misdirected fan frustration.

And let me go ahead and predict that the same people who are berating the coaches over this “issue” will be the same ones moaning and groaning when the wildcat featuring IC and BS blows up in our faces.

The people bitching about Richt taking the opening kickoff last week were largely the same telling Richt to take the ball if we won the toss.

Once again, Crowell volunteered long ago in print to do the same thing that Smith will do. Both players have spoken to coaches and each other when this first arose. That’s one of the reasons Bobo has replied in kind to the question. Then some wanted to add an attitude or smartass connotation to his remark. Don’t you see It’s old “worries and issues” ground that was begun by interlopers trying to paint Crowell as “selfish” and “lazy” during the summer and Fall Practice. This is done by people delighting in watching knee-jerk reactions from some UGA fans. It’s called “wedge driving” and is done on a national scale in politics. Nixon used to call it “rat fucking”.

In Gibbon’s “Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire,” there’s a salient passage where he speaks of imperial overreach and the corrosive nature of distrust, gossip, rumor, that eats away the connection between Rome’s leaders, generals, army, and citizens. in other words, there’s fucking noise in the system. And it ain’t good.

Please, somebody, put a gag on Mike Bobo and all the players. Nothing they say which gets reported is helping anything (ever).

This is media and fan-driven. Bobo and the players have been pulled into contentious spin of the subject and their words. Remember Richt’s words being parsed over the summer after each Bulldog Club appearance? This is the same crud that’s driven by those opposed to UGA. Bobo nor the players have anything to do with the vitriol that is placed on their words and laughs by others.

What used to be a sad statement about the state of politics has now been permitted to enter our college football world and the incivility won’t stop until some stubborn people indict and sentence our coaches while others stand on the sideline and allow their dissatisfaction to be used to drive the bus. Many people should come to grips with the passive manner they witness others tear down our team and spirit in the name of critical voicing of disgruntlement. These “issues ” wouldn’t get anywhere if fans speak up when the ugly head of incivility rises. That should have happened day before yesterday.

Hey, I’ll take an “F you!” in the form of smart, dominating offense any day. It’s when the same message is delivered at a post-game presser that the fans start to respond in kind.
