Coastal Carolina preview: more Dawg than cat

Seriously, if you’re looking for some sort of detailed breakdown of each team’s strengths and weaknesses for today’s game, you’ve come to the wrong blog, Bubba.  The opponent comes from the ranks of 1-AA and Georgia can get off a three-game schneid.  There’s no key, no outcome hanging in the balance.

Besides the win, all we can hope for is the usual yada, yada, yada:  the gears get properly oiled, the backups get plenty of playing time and nobody gets hurt.  Anything beyond that is pure gravy.  Maybe we’ll get to see how Georgia handles the number crunch at #1.

I’ll be heading up to Athens in a couple of hours and will report back as usual.

EDSBS sums it up quite nicely:
“Isiah Crowell runs for 84 yards on four runs on one drive. Offense at the Coastal Carolina 5. Mike Bobo calls a shotgun formation goal line screen. Ball is picked. Mark Richt nods, and thinks, “Operation Forced Retirement is working according to plan, and Agent Bobo is its catalyst.” For just a second, he can almost smell the salty air of a Honduran beach house.”

Is it bad that I’m more interested in the Senators comments on the game than actually watching it?

Anybody heard what the crowd looks like today?

    Over/Under 70K?

Not bad, and probably a few more than I would have expected. I’d estimate around 85K at the peak (after late arrivals and before early leavers)

Okay, I’ve never really bought into the story that Bobo only runs Thomas between the tackles, but today certainly confirms it. WTF? Just once I’d like to see what Thomas could do running wide in space.

Also, what happened to Ray Drew? Is his shoulder more injured than we know? If he doesn’t play today, I guess they must be going with the redshirt? Should we tell the coaches that we’re overloaded on TIGHT ends, not DEFENSIVE ends?

Well, I guess there’s no redshirt for Drew. He plays with 1:00 left in a 59-0 blowout. I wonder what’s going on there?

I read where he also played in the third quarter, so I guess I missed that on the ESPN3 broadcast.

Not whining, just wondering why he’s not playing. We’re certainly not shy about playing the younsters, which I’m all for. Given all the talk in pre-season, I thought he’d play and contribute. Of course the outside containment has been spectacular so far, so I guess we don’t need help there. 🙂
