  • The top eight weren’t too hard to come up with, but the last two, yecch.
  • The ACC bites so far this year and Georgia Tech’s schedule has been very soft, which explains the Jackets’ absence.
  • The Big Ten hasn’t been much to write home about either.  But Wisconsin’s been impressive pounding cupcakes and Illinois got the nod for beating Arizona State.
  • Oklahoma State isn’t here because I can’t bring myself to include a team ranked 103rd in total defense on a top ten list.  Kansas State gets similar treatment for being ranked 97th in total offense.
  • West Virginia?  The ‘Eers are scoring points in bunches, but a 26-point home loss to LSU and a close call against Maryland leave me leery for now.

Just wondering what your 6th place LSU reasoning is Senator? I’m just not sure Illinois is better.

Senator, I had to give the fighting Zookers the love as well, I think they’ve been pretty impressive. I also went Kansas State over Stanford. I like the way they win, it’s old school and it’s working so far.

I had to go with K State for that very reason.

May be a regional thing, but I like what’s happening with K-State more than what I see in any of the Pac-12 records right now. But the Senator’s right…there are 8 teams in the top 10 and probably zero deserving after that until some more games are played.

There’s a reason Georgia isn’t ranked: our head coach!

Let’s hire someone who can lead us back to Mumme Poll Supremacy! Fire Mark Richt!!!1!

I think OSU will take Big Game Bob down in the season finale. They may not have much of a D but Lord can they light it up. I had to include them just because me thinking of that smirk being smacked off Bobby’s face brings me joy. When you get west of Red Stick, nobody puts much emphasis on defense anyway.

Wisc and Illinois was a toss up after the cupcakes they have faced, but a grudgingly put the Badgers in because they are putting up more sound victories against the high schools they played. Until someone stops Ok St’s offense, they’re in my top 10.

I think you are significantly under estimating Wisky. The reason the SEC has blown so far ahead of the Big 10/11/12 in the last 25 years is the lack of offensive diversity in that conference. The SEC kept it’s defensive superiority but added a passing game, the Great Lakes area missed that evolution. Wilson at QB gives a another alternative for all DC’s to plan for because the Badgers have alwayts been a great, power running team. Those who have stopped them, including UGA did so because they had no fear of them passing, or getting to the edge.

I expect we will see them in the BCS finale, probably against the survivor of the Novemeber 5 elimination game in Tusky. And, I think that would be a legit faux title game given what I have seen thus far.

I’d have to give Bama my asterisk. LSU’s defense didn’t really look that great against Oregon and WVU went up and down the field all game long.

Everyone isn’t taking off the week before playing LSU like they are with Bama. Each team is throwing their best effort against Bama. That respect from other coaches alone is enough to place Bama first.

Senator, try applying your reasoning for Ok St and K St to the 50s-70s play in the SEC. We lived by D and didn’t put many points on the board. Our O might have been ranked down near the bottom some years when we had great teams.
