Game of the Century Week is finally here, but let’s not forget about the titanic slate of games which marked last weekend’s schedule. This version of the Power Poll winds up in the same order as Week 8.
That will not be the case next week, though. Not only do we get the Alabama-LSU match, there’s also Arkansas-South Carolina and a meeting to decide which team really is the conference’s worst.
In the meantime, this will have to do:
- LSU (8-0, 5-0). In getting three key players back from suspension, the Tigers managed to kick the bye week’s ass, too.
- Alabama (8-0, 5-0). This week is the kind of shit Nick Saban has time for.
- Arkansas (7-1, 3-1). A second straight struggle against weaker opposition suggests the Hogs’ defense ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.
- Georgia (6-2, 5-1). It’s unusual for the Dawgs to beat the Gators. It’s astounding for them to do so without playing their best game.
- South Carolina (7-1, 5-1). The OBC gets no help from his alma mater. That’s gotta sting a little.
- Auburn (6-3, 4-2). It looks like the bye week will do the Tigers some good. So did playing Ole Miss.
- Florida (4-4, 2-4). The most ordinary Florida team I’ve seen in a long, long time.
- Vanderbilt (4-4, 1-4). It’s hard to believe, but third place in the division is on the line with this week’s trip to Gainesville.
- Mississippi State (4-4, 1-4). Getting by Kentucky just means that you’re better than an FCS team.
- Tennessee (3-5, 0-5). Starting a true freshman quarterback who’s never thrown a pass in a college game against a top ten defense turned out to be every bit the WTF move we thought it would be.
- Mississippi (2-6, 0-5). We’re about to find out what happens when a resistible force meets a movable object.
- Kentucky (3-5, 0-4). Three of its remaining SEC games are against opponents with a combined 1-14 conference record. But will it matter?
And ranked even lower than Kentucky, Verizon Wireless service in Jacksonville at the tailgate and the game. Seriously, Verizon, it’s allegedly a major American city. You should look into building a tower. Or two.

Verizon service was pathetic. From the moment I woke up Saturday morning, I could forget about making or receiving calls or texts. It finally came back around 9pm Saturday night as the crowds thinned. Friends in our group were panicking because they could not communicate with other people they were meeting. Luckily someone else had ATT in the group.

Hooray! It paid to have AT&T one time in my life!

@ Dawgs:
Reassuring to see complaining about cell service is a nationwide thing. I live in Pawleys Island. It’s not the end of the world, but you can see it from here. Complaining about AT&T is de rigeur at supper club and roster call. Thanks, we know we’re not alone anymore.

I halfway expect to see Vandy kick a Gator when its down and move up next week. They have much more fight in them than Florida right now. Though it saddens me to see Petrino & Co. above UGA, I want to see them there next week.
How the heck do you pick where LSU & AL will be next week? Miles is the luckiest coach alive and Saban may have a better team by the slightest of margins. If those facts remain so, LSU wins a close one.

Muschamp was 2-2 against Vandy as a player. He may be 0-1 as a head coach.

The Aggies roll in with a QB that has a higher rating than Murray. Will Murray continue to aspire to be a QB like that or Kellen Moore who sits in the top 4? Wishing, hoping, and saying do not count…and the rating drops.
Gators lose to Vandy, and they could, it will get ugly in Gainesville and ugly in a hurry.
Dawgs have to do some serious recruiting for another RB, punter, and kicking specialist.
Most cell phone service today is mediocre at best. Might as well have two number 303 tomato cans with twine strung between the two. But the Verizon lines in the state of Florida will get hot if the Gatos continue to drop games. Who knows. There could be a call or two to Columbia for the OBG. Now would that not be a call to listen for.

I think we have those needs covered.
We have a commitment from the #1 P/K in FL and most recruiting services think we will sign the #1 rated RB in the class out of NC.

I think Vandy is going to spoil the FU homecoming this weekend.
Arkansas has looked terrible the last two weeks, can they do us a favor and beat the OBC in a night game in Fayetteville?
Auburn has two weeks to prepare for us, let’s hope they don’t find a defense.

Had Walsh been hitting field goals like last year, UGA would have lost 20-16. It’s ironic how a bad thing (bad kicking) turned out to be what won the game for us. What I like is that I see light at the end of this long dark tunnel of a rivalry. Remember the Zooker beat us his first two years. Muschamp is squarely behind the 8 ball now. Forget 3-18, Muschamp is 0-1.

We would have lost? An appealing, but superficial conslusion.

Does that include the points we left on the field at the end of the game on the 1 yard line?

If Walsh was kicking like last year, he would have nailed the two that missed, and then hit the two on 4th downs that turned into TD’s.
Wouldn’t that equate to 22-20?

And besides I bet he would have been kicking it deeper into the end zone which would take a TD and a FG off the board.

Really? Did you even watch the game? You are one of those “fans” and I use that term loosely with you, who wouldn’t be satisfied no matter who we beat or how many points we score.
You should turn in your “G”. Pathetic

Holy crap, dude…the guy disagrees with UGA’s placement in a blogger’s poll (by two positions in a 12 team league, no less), and that’s your response? Oh well, I see that the increasing popularity of the good Senator’s blog comes with consequences.

Poll looksa about right, although it should be 1-A and 1-B, but I guess that is not allowed. I knew that TN was starting a freshman QB, but I thought he was supposed to be decent. I don’t recall us having a Frosh QB with as little talent as that kid showed. What were they waiting on to take the redshirt off for, he should never see the field. I do believe Sims could have beaten SC by a TD. Wasted opportunity for the Cocks to fall, but that is our own fault for gifting them a game. I still think Arky drills them, and Vandy should be a close matchup.

Bear in mind Arky’s defense doesn’t have to worry about stopping much this weekend. If they get to 24 they win. We hung 42 on the Cocks top 10 defense.

If anyone watched the Kentucky-Miss St game this week, when Kentucky went to their freshman QB (Maxwell Smith) their offense actually did play a LOT better. By the standards they’ve set so far this season, it was night and day. Kind of like the way Vandy “woke up” the week they played UGA and has played challenging football for three weeks in a row now, I think UK may have finally found a formula that is better for them than what they’ve been doing.
Not that they’re good, mind you.

CBS had the game on television, and I believe online. I would check their online site to see if they archive games. Some cable systems keep a few games in their On Demand folder.
