John Pennington has a ratings system based on plays per miscue in SEC games. You can argue about its subjectivity and relevance to wins and losses, I suppose, but two Georgia-related stats jump out at me from this post:
- To date, Georgia has nine missed field goals. The rest of the conference combined has sixteen.
- In conference play, Georgia has run more plays from scrimmage (817) than any other team in the SEC.
How weird is it that Bobo’s goal to use the hurry-up offense has worked out more reliably than Blair Walsh?

Is Bogotay that bad? He has had a ‘ship for his entire time at Georgia. Is he not worth a try versus Walsh right now?

He doesn’t have the range that Walsh does, but if your guy is missing from 27 or whatever it was in Jacksonville, I’m not sure why you’re still excited about his range.

And there is clearly some sort of kick-strength issue at play here when we watch B.Walsh popping kick-offs out to the 10-15 yd. line. If Walsh is as cocksure as he appears and reiterates during interviews I don’t see the danger in giving Bogotay some attempts vs. NMSU.

Tenn Dawg has a good question. I wonder how long you ride this horse, but it looks like CMR has decided “to the end.” Since we see no practice, guess we have to trust the Coach. (Not that he has asked for my opinion recently!!) But the meltdown hasn’t let up all year for Blair. Man, what a spot.

There are no monitored practices and that is part of the problem. The kickers go off by themselves to practice away from the team, led by Walsh and Butler. We can only trust they are doing what they say they are doing.

I was thinking, kicking and special teams were supposed to be a strength this year… and they suck. Was it 2009 that the OL was supposed to be a strength and sucked? And last year it was a solid RB tandem to help a young QB. Hmmm… funny how our strengths turn out to be our weakness almost every year.

The Georgia offense is reliable?
Funny… I thought our offense had looked weak against anything resembling a good defense. I also seem to remember it had a tendency of turning the ball over in its own redzone, giving away touchdowns, and disappearing for long stretches during important games.
The hurry up offense may be getting more plays in — which is great — but I don’t know if it’s fair to characterize our offense as “reliable.” In fact, our offense has been anything but reliable in our toughest games (Boise, SC, UF). I’m not a big Bobo detractor, but I don’t think our offense deserves a whole lot of credit this season.

I think a lot of it is just missing sometimes. Not all on AM either, that PA fullback pass was right in his hands and should have been caught. Not that it mattered because RSIV got his TD that will probably pay for drinks the rest of his life.

I think this team will make the DAWG nation feel that all the games won is only by one point. Doesn’t anyone else feel this way????? Probably difficult to swallow or ugly, but they were or are still W’s anyway.

It has been a workman-like season thus far. They are just doing what it takes, which is welcome from what is a fairly inexperienced team at the most crucial positions.

Not to diminish the fun and importance of the 6-game winning streak too much, but we still haven’t beaten a ranked team.
Our defense looks really well coached, and it has all season, but our offense and STs do not look that way. This has been the case all season and it hasn’t changed 2/3 of the way in.
Our schedule has a lot to do with our current success.

That may be because Bobo and the special teams coaches, who prefer to remain unidentified, don’t want to peak too early. I think they’re saving it for the Ted Roofies.

When I watch this offense the first thing that comes to mind on each play this season is how the little QB will mess it up. Passing the football and passing sets are tough to execute. The UF game was the worst accuracy game I’ve seen the little QB have. The UF game is the first game in this series since Bobo became OC where he called and managed the game well from beginning to end. Do not think the QB is comfortable with some players on the line and in the backfield. The 3 suspensions plus the loss of Samuel IV [I can not say enough how much I respect RSIV] will probably add to his recent performances. The number of plays does surprise me, but what surprises more about that number is the points production. How many plays did they run against UF on 14 of those 24 points. Think 2 of those scores are due to a very short field acquired by TG’s D. And then it took some all downs and tough execution to get it in…mainly Bennett and King.
Somebodu needs to go to the practice field, stop the O, and say…man, our receivers and receivers coach is at the top of the game…where are the rest of you guys.

Watching the SEC Express version, which I DVRed. GA had a lot of drives and few 3 and outs. But they would be driving and either a missed block or the TB did not hit the hole hard enough. Or AM just was off on a throw that set them back. Little mistakes killed most of the drives, nothing that was horrific. These are things a young talented team will do. If these same things are happening when AM is a senior, than it is coaching.
Also a few times, AM would no throw the damned ball away and would try and make something out of nothing. The young man will get better though.

I’m pretty sure Bennett and King are on the GA offense = we do not subtract them from assessing the play of the GA offense. Also, the “little QB”, who I think is a gamer and a DGD and who I don’t disparage because he’s done nothing but play his guts out for the red and black and do what he is asked to do, is ranked 4th in the SEC, I believe, which puts him in the top 1/3rd of the QB’s in our conference. He may not be your favorite [this year], but he’s a long way from sucking as badly as you suggest. The Alabama and LSU quarterbacks surely benefit from their ridiculously stout defenses, but until we have an easy way to weight that stat, I give AM the benefit of the doubt.

I blame Bobo. And this must be even further evidence that CTG’s defense is able to get the offense back on the field, albeit against some very weak competition. I suppose there is great benefit in learning to win, if even this ugly, but man we have a long way to go as a program.

Why don’t we blame Bobo for the O points put on the board each game? We had a rushing TD and two passing TDs plus a field goal. We are just past midway season, 6 straight wins and a few nitpickers come on again to blast the O coach. You can’t see the positives nor appreciate the W’s that you claimed was all you wanted to see after the first two games of the season. When things get tough at UGA, some of you “toughs” get going….in the opposite direction. Pointing out and lambasting at midweek what everyone knew Sat night is just stubborn insistence for some of you not to enjoy the games nor the wins. Go cheer for teams where no shit whatsoever happens that you can dig. Let me know if you find one. Your cue, Dawg Vent. The laugh meter is “on” for some more sarcasm.

Someone earlier mentioned that we seem to have one unit every year that is expected to be the strength of the team but turns out to be terrible. It must have to do with the fact that CMR is not a very detailed oriented coach. I get the feeling that he really cares about the QB’s and by extension anything that effects them but he trusts his assistants to get it done. How else can you explain the never ending lack of depth at OL, the almost obsessive search for the next Warwick Dunn, the long periods of ignoring the TE. We are still for all intense and purposes the 1990’s FSU. Unfortunately for us we play in the SEC and not the ACC. There was a reason Bobby wanted no part of the SEC, but we are FSU in the SEC. We have the talent but then so does everybody else.

If the kickers go off to practice by themselves, is a coach evaluating them? Or a graduate assistant? With the limitations on the number of coaches, perhaps we need to bring in an ex-kicker as a guest coach, or hire one as a graduate assistant. Also, in regards to AM’s accuracy, or lack thereof, I believe it boils down to a combination of three things: (1) happy feet, (2) poor fundamentals, and (3) high heart rate. Why not have him work with a previous QB or one of the professionals, after this season. Looking ahead to next year, we will really be rebuilding our OL with the loss of three seniors.

Not wanting to negative but that, sir, is maybe my biggest gripe about CMR. He almost never fields a complete team. Some aspect seems to always be f#cked up, keeping the team from achieving real success.

Probably every coach in the land feels that way about his/her own team. If anyone sees a halo appear over Richt’s head, he may have achieved the perfection that we want. Don’t blame you for wanting perfection in our Dawgs, Mayor, but we will never get it. Ever. With any coach.
