SEC Power Poll, Week 10

Interestingly, Game of the Century Week turned to be more of an affirmation of the standing order in the conference than anything else.  I wound up making only one change in my rankings.

  1. LSU (9-0, 6-0).  Remember the old SNL skit where Reagan was presented as a doddering fool in the public eye, but behind closed doors was the mastermind in control of everything?  There’s a little of that in Les Miles, I think.
  2. Alabama (8-1, 5-1).  You lose by a field goal in overtime to the best team in the country, you’re not gonna drop very far, if at all.
  3. Arkansas (8-1, 4-1).  Fragged South Carolina despite a half-assed showing for the first thirty minutes.  That won’t work against LSU.
  4. Georgia (7-2, 5-1).  Best.  Scheduling.  Ever.
  5. Auburn (6-3, 4-2).  Statistically, it’s hard to justify them being ranked this high.  Does that mean Chizik’s a good head coach, or just the last man standing in comparison to those ranked lower?
  6. South Carolina (7-2, 5-2).  Remember when South Carolina used to run out to glory early and then fade in November?  Last year may turn out to be the exception instead of the start of a new trend.
  7. Florida (5-4, 3-4).  Bad news for the Gators’ secondary:  Jordan Rodgers, 180.53 passer rating.  Good news for the Gators’ secondary:  South Carolina appears to have run out of quarterbacks.
  8. Vanderbilt (4-5, 1-5).  I would have paid good money to watch a James Franklin-Penn Wagers post-game rumble.
  9. Mississippi State (5-4, 1-4).  Oh, goodie.  The Bulldogs get to play a Nick Saban-coached squad coming off a brutal loss.
  10. Tennessee (4-5, 0-5).  Hey, it’s November.  Isn’t there a rule that the Vols don’t play ranked teams this month?
  11. Kentucky (4-5, 1-5).  Feel the surge, baby.
  12. Mississippi (2-7, 0-6).  Rumors are that Nutt’s out of a job.  If that’s true, do we say he was Jokered?

The Mad Hatter strikes again. He just finds ways to motivate his team and win.

I heard from people that attended the game of the century. The classic fire Saban rumbling was thrown around.

When UGA gets momentum late in a season, other teams should be concerned. What I saw Saturday was a focused team that played on another level against an inferior opponent. Our stadium will be rocking at 15:30 this Saturday. I can’t wait.

Les Miles deserves credit from all those who have ridden his back for years, he puts a good product on the field and they consistently get it done in big games. Except for the handling (or not) of the Jefferson situation, I also think he runs a good program and handles the media well. Being eccentric makes him more fun and keeps competitors on their toes. He raan no gimmick plays Saturday but Bama had to be on their toes every play, and on every kick. Well done Mr. Miles.

Saban is a good coach, an excellent secondary coach, but those who worship Little Nicky may have erected a statue too quickly. Alabama, one SEC title in the Richt era but you have people bowing to them. They are an excellent football team, maybe better than LSU, but they looked anemic Saturday night with poor STs, no passing attack, and coaching errors costing them a game they should have won at home. Grumpy old Little Nicky won’t be much fun at the press conferences this week, and I bet a new OC will be hired soon. Someboby’s got to be blamed for that huge loss this weekemd and you can bet it won’t be Mr. Teflon.

I would be one of those people who haven’t given Les his due. Props to him for continuing to win big (night) games. I hope we take care of bidness and get a shot at the Tigers. I’d love to see that D live in living color.

Hard for me to beat up S.C. Too much. Lost starting QB and heisman candidate RB in middle of season. That is hard to overcome.

Senator, I’m sincerely sorry that the bloggers stay away in droves when there is nothing but good news. Oh well, maybe things will look down for the Dawgs before the season is over and the Nerd Herd will be back on with their fake Bulldog names. Trying not to look past Auburn, but there is a familiar itch that needs to be scratched early. Will try to hold on.

    • I’m not seeing people staying away in the good times. Quite the opposite: last month was a record month for traffic at GTP and we’re on pace this month to top that.

Yeah, but many hadn’t caught onto the positive flavor yet. Liked Darrell Huckaby’s column this morning.

And let me add my congratulations for your success and your open fingerwaves for comment (did you get that where I substituted for airwaves because it involved typing?).

Senator, we REALLY need to stop playing USCe early in the season and start playing them late. How about using your influence to get Slime…er…Slive to switch the Kentucky-Georgia game with the South Carolina-Georgia game on our upcoming schedules? I know you can do it.

Am chapped at Nick for not winning offensive shootout by 14, his general overall malaise as well as his lack of total domination. In addition to a quarterback and a kicker, have four-part recommendation for the Bammers: (a) tear down that wall, (ii) dismantle Nick’s 9 footed idol or at least move it behind Finebaum’s for time being, (tres leches) put Nick on hot seat since Mark has vacated same momentarily and (4) buy chairs, go watch ducks shit in yard where idol used to be

I hate Florida but I cannot help but enjoy the situation that SOS finds himself in at present. Personally, I would really like it if South Carolina lost the rest of their games this season.

We can love it that one of them will lose. I hope it’s Florida, but only if Georgia can win out.
I just saw where the Nutster is gone after the year.
I would like to introduce Ole Miss to Paul Johnson. That would be a very good rumor. Of course I wouldn’t start it.
