My Week Ten Mumme Poll ballot

Last week’s top ten was threatened, but outside of Nebraska, wasn’t shook up too much.  All I can figure is that the Big Ten doesn’t want a team in the top ten.

My ballot this week:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Boise State
  • Clemson
  • LSU*
  • Oklahoma
  • Oklahoma State
  • Oregon
  • Stanford
  • Texas

COMMENTS

  • Maybe there simply isn’t a tenth-best team in the country right now.
  • In the end, I went with Texas because the Horns made me hold my nose less than any other team I could put in that spot.
  • That being said, I have this sinking feeling that we’re overrating the Big 12 as a whole right now – especially after watching a fairly feeble Kansas State offense rip up Okie State’s defense.
  • Other schools under consideration:  Kansas State, Georgia (I can’t believe I just typed that), Georgia Tech (ditto), Houston (couldn’t you guys have played just one decent team this year?) and Southern Cal.
  • It took 35 minutes to put the ballot together, although it seemed like a lot longer.  34 minutes and 23 seconds of that were spent on finding a number ten team.  Approximately.

Been wondering for several weeks … why the asterisk beside L, S & U?

Well, UH did beat UCLA which controls the PAC-12 South.

What’s your personal test for admittance into your top ten? Are you grading the body of work? Or are you grading how strong those teams are right now? If you consider both, which one carries more weight?

Great question. I have asked this in the past and recall the Senator didn’t want to set guidelines for voters. I think this question, and the one about whether polls should represent how good teams actually are, or be guided by the W/L record, should be set in advance so we know what the vote represents. Big difference when voters are using different criteria to compile their list.

I consider both…but how strong they are right now weighs a little more for me. What have you done for me lately, baby, and all that…

    • Both, but I give more weight to how strong teams are right now. That’s why I didn’t think about South Carolina for my top ten.

FWIW, our polls are the same save for #10. I went with Wisconsin.

I think UGA beats Arkansas on a neutral field.

Especially if that neutral field is in Atlanta, Georgia.

If Ark beats LSU, under what circumstance would they go? Isn’t their loss to Bama? Please excuse my laziness for not checking.

A three way tie in the West opens the door to chaos-weird tiebreakers having to do with teams being in the Top 5 in the BCS poll or not being in the Top 5, etc. Just wait and see. The deck is being stacked for a Bama-LSU rematch in the BCSNCG. If that happens the SEC gets $21 Million x 2= $42 Million. If Arkansas beats LSU at least half that is gone. If Bama then gets in the SECCG on the tiebreaker and UGA beats Bama the other half is gone. If LSU wins out and plays UGA in the SECCG and UGA beats them at least half the money disappears that way, too. None of these scenarios will be allowed to happen by Slime..er..Slive and his SEC referee minions.

After LSU and Bama, I’ll throw in Ok St. and Stanford. After that, it’s pure guess for me. I even stuck Georgia in my top 10 this week. Really, after about 5 teams, you get the “also participating”.

Texas is still a fraud…more similar to UGA last year than this year. Don’t think you should have given them the nod. Just give Houston a little love until the end of the season…the beat who they play. All they can do.

Wait…I don’t think that is the real Aaron Murray responding. Pretty sure he’s busy studying film for Auburn. 😉

It’s a shame you guys quit doing the emails. I wonder why? You went from well north of 100 (staying pretty steady around 120-130 through weeks 7 & 8) to under 100 and now in the 60’s.

Accidentally left Stanford off of my Mumme Poll ballot, I would replace Houston with them. My login is jlking2.
