Good change of subject, we have struggled to make tomorrow’s game seem really significant beyond other OOC games other than 1) many Dawgs live near GT fans and they are annoying in their attempt to seem relevant or, 2) the game once had major significance and those thinking back to a time over 40 years ago can’t let it go. Sure, there are many who don’t agree with that position but let’s play your game for fun.
Should LSU lose today, and I don’t think they will, we would most likely play Alabama in Atlanta next week. From a what’s best for UGA standpoint, I feel Alabama would be a better matchup for UGA. Not putting Bama down because they are clearly deserving of a Top 10 ranking, but they don’t have the offense to put UGA away. I think we would be assured of a close game, probably one we would either win, or have a chance to win, in the 4th quarter. Certainly their defense is stout enough to help the offense put up enough points to beat us decisively, but I don’t think their offense could score more than 17 on their own. Turnovers and field position could drive this total higher but our defense could shut them down as well as LSU did. Also, their kicking game makes them vulnerable in a close game.
LSU is more diverse and has multiple ways to attack you. Not to say we cannot beat them, but while their offense isn’t scary good, I see them putting up more points against UGA. Being totally honest, both of these teams can be beat by UGA, but the odds are better that LSU would win, and could win by a couple of TDs. Guessing what the oddsmakers would have the point spread, I would think LSU would be favored by 7-10 points and Bama would be favored by 4-7.
I don’t think UGA wins either matchup, but I do expect us to compete in the SECCG. Nationally, I wouldn’t count on much support of that position but I feel our players are young, talented, and beginning to believe in themselves. They may be a little tight on a stage that big, or they could come in tired of being dissed all year, and particularly after hearing that they don’t belong with either of the two teams all week in the AJC and on ESPN. Sets up well for a strong performance, and we have played pretty damned well in this game. If only Lump hadn’t taken his eye off the ball in that 2003 game….

I get what you’re saying about Bama’s offense, but statistically they’re better than we are in scoring, rushing, and total offense. We’re better through the air, but the overall advantage goes to Bama. We’re a flashier style, but they’re a ground-&-pound rushing attack that doesn’t always seem like they’re racking up yardage. I agree that I’d rather play their offense over LSU, but I’d rather play LSU’s defense. Can we do that?

Helluva an idea, but I like BD’s thinking, why play at all? Just wait for the call. As I watch Arkansas move the ball on LSU, I think we are more like the Hogs’ offense than either of the top guys. How do we match up with them? May have to figure that out later today if this early lead holds. I doubt they jump Bama though since they got handled pretty decisively. Great year to watch the BCS prove why it isn’t an adequate answer.

Also, in 2010, we threw for 377 and rang up the third most yards on a bad AU defense, so the less than 100 yards stat is a bit misleading.
