I’m so confused.

“Yes, Arkansas is that much better than Georgia.”

“To put it another way, if Vandy doesn’t allow a 94 yard fumble return for a TD or could hit a field goal on October 29th, the whole Arkansas is way better than Georgia conversation is laughable.

I stopped reading CFN a couple of years ago. Its commentary is lazy, unintelligent and wrong as often as not. I don’t recall the site relying on third-party content (like from this Arkansas homer), but no doubt it’s cheaper for it to operate that way, as well as troll for clicks.

    Arkansas is a good team.

We’ll see how things go on Saturday. Go Dawgs.

They are indeed. The offenses of Georgia and Arkansas are probably roughly comparable. Heck, Arkansas might even be better on that side of the ball. But what I think the Razorback fan in this piece fails to recognize is that his team really doesn’t have much of a defense. Georgia’s is simply better than Arkansas’ is, and if Georgia wins on Saturday I’d imagine that a lot of the credit will be due to Grantham’s group. If South Carolina had Lattimore in Fayetteville, had more game experience for Shaw, and then didn’t have Shaw knocked out in the second half, that game’s a different affair, and we likely wouldn’t headed to the Dome.

The score of that is not indicative of how close that game was until the 4th quarter. It stinks, but that’s how it goes. Arky is good, but they aren’t on another level like some people proclaim.

Their “elite” receivers sure do drop a lot of balls. And we spread the ball around much more than they do and have a better running game. And more, better tight ends.

Also, Mitchell is the only Georgia receiver that was mentioned. And used to explain that “undersized” receivers would have trouble producing against LSU. I don’t think Mitchell would have trouble producing against anyway. And Conley (6’3″), Bennett (6’3″), and Marlon Brown (6’5″) are definitely not undersized. TK doesn’t play or look 6’1″ either. We have physical receivers who will get the ball out of the air and we have plenty of tall guys. Arkansas… Not so much. Their passing game is good because of Petrino, not an abundance of amazing talent. Our running game is better and we’ll have Crowell back. The article is just… Well, it’s bullshit.

I wasn’t very impressed with the Arkansas defense against LSU. The players were frequently out of position and often looked confused – in other words, they looked a lot like ours used to. I’m not sure if that reflects their talent level, coaching, or both.

That was the kind of column that the response “Cool story, bro” was made for. Just an Arkansas fan trying to convince himself that their loss to LSU wasn’t that embarrassing. Nothing more.

I don’t think there is that much difference between Georgia and Arkansas, but to be fair, we are a Drew Butler shoe string tackle away from looking for a new HC.

That’s a two way street pal. We are a shoestring tackle of Melvin Ingram away from being #3 in the country right now.

Big dif in the Arky D and the Georgia D. We are also a special teams disaster while playing uSC from being undefeated in the SEC. Shoe string tackle? Is that how you saw that? I didn’t see it that close.

And we are a miracle TD by Lindsay Scott and a late fumble by George Rogers away from never winning a championship in 1980.

    • I agree, Corbin. Crazy how close this season was to being very different.

However, folks are very quick to point out how Georgia needed that to keep from losing to Vandy or how it only scored 20 against Tennessee, while Arkansas’s near death experience with Vandy never comes up.

The Senator needs to add Hugely Huge to the Lexicon. Winning the TO battle will decide this game. Georgia and LSU are very closely matched when you look at the stats against common opponents.

If Florida doesn’t block a late field goal against South Carolina in 2006, they don’t play for the BCS national championship.

If Tennessee doesn’t block Kentucky’s game-winning field goal attempt in OT in 2007, we win the East and play LSU in the SEC championship.

These are all fair arguments. Let’s wait and see how UGA and Arky fair this weekend before making a final comparison. Wait…what’s that? Oh…oh…oh. They’re done. Right.

/P.S. Selfishly hoping Arky goes Cap One Bowl and Dawgs come bowling west!

I used to be an avid reader of CFN a few years ago…but only go there now and then. I think it used to be a better site when it wasn’t trying to be everything to everyone and bringing in random bloggers for different conferences and such.

It also has had some of the most annoying popup ads of any non porn site for awhile…all in all…no longer appointment reading for me. Though I still put more stock in any of their writers than I do Mandel….but that ain’t saying much.

The comparison to Arkansas isn’t relevant because while they may be better offensively I think we’re vastly superior defensively. The only important issue is whether we can stay on the field with LSU. We can IF Crowell shows up and makes an impact. 15 to 20 carries for 80 to 100 yards is what we need. If we don’t get it, it’s a matter of tine before our defense is gassed and Murray is abused.

I personally think that if Crowell is healthy, 25 for 85 or so will get the job done. And with our line and their front 7, that might be all we can expect. But it’ll be enough to help play action.

Bama’s passing made more of a dif than did their running game. Jus saying that Trent didn’t get all of his and it didn’t stop their passing game (which would have won the game but for the call at the goal line). Our passing game, even with unsung freshmen, is better than Bama’s and (my personal feelings) Arky.

  16. What’s that? Murray and are sad group of wide receivers have 10 more passing touchdowns than the great Arkansas passing offense that we just can’t compete with. Arkansas is averaging only 3 more points per game than Georgia. How many games did Georgia shut it down on offense late in games to run the clock out because they knew the game was over with our defense? How many times do you think Arkansas did the same? Last year they were a BCS team and we were 6-7 and they won on a last minute play. Which team has improved the most since last year?

what? are you implying that Bobby Petrino is a tempermental douche who would run up the score at every opportunity just to)show the world how awesome an offensive genius he is? Who would believe THAT?

Arky is a decent team, pretty close to UGA but their defense keeps them from being a Top 10 team. They came from behind to beat Vandy and A&M, got blown out by both Bama and LSU. Case closed. Good team that was significantly overrated.

Well, we brought that on ourselves by giving away that SC game after whooping them all night long. We are probably where we should be, but if we compete tomorrow and win the bowl game, we could justify a 9th or 10th place ranking at the end. Chance to impress in The Dome, we will see.
