Thursday morning buffet

We’re getting closer…

  • Mike Bobo sensed that some of his players felt the Boise State game was over in the third quarter.  That feeling hasn’t surfaced since then.
  • This is ugly, regardless of how much of it you buy.
  • If you’ve missed David Hale, he’s back for a special one-week engagement.  (Hopefully his curse won’t follow him.)
  • Mike Leach on statistics.
  • Frankly, you can look like a complete tool for a lot less than $41.95.
  • This is a great video, but what really sells it for me is tacking on fourth-and-Reggie Ball at the end.  Schwing!
  • cocknfire posts on why divisions are good for rivalries.
  • This sure seems like a lot of work to say Ted Roof’s not a great defensive coordinator.

This is a little off topic, but should by some miracle we beat LSU on Saturday, I make a motion that Russ become the permanent mascot, we could return to the UGA line when Russ is no longer able to go. He’s filled in nicely and if he wins an SEC Championship he should be rewarded, DGD.

Wait, does Super Dawg know about this costume? Because I think he might be due some royalties here.

Question.. is there something wrong with the websites hosted at ‘blogspot’? I attempted to go to GSB and your above link and just get a blank screen. Anyone else? Bueller?

On that Vol post: yes the story is ugly, but the backgound of that site is uglier. I almost went into convulsions when it popped up on the screen.

Also, that UT stuff is nasty. Let’s see… Malcom Mitchell, Michael Bennett, Chris Conley, T King, Marlon Brown… yeah, Vols, y’all have fun with Da’Rick Rogers. I think we’ll just try to muddle on through with what we’ve got.

That appeal for the Techies really moved me. Out of compassion for my Tech-grad brother, I am sending him a link to it. Merry Christmas, bro. 🙂

Same here. I forwarded it to a friend that put two kids through Tech and has a killer parking spot for the COFH. He always has good booze for my mooching. It was the least I could do.

Oh Gosh, not David Hale! Jeepers, he lost us the 2008 Baseball crown, killed two dogs and destroyed our football and gymnastics program and held a pillow over the basketball program until he left. Great writer, just horrible to have him back around the program!!! LOL — I think????

Yeah even if none of the UT stuff is true, just the fact that’s all this is coming out in the open is really rough. Maybe not getting Da’Rick was truly a blessing in disguise, especially with the talent and character guys we have now. Maybe I’m in the minority, but I feel bad for Dooley. He’s in way over his head.

There are two ways to coach against your home school (and yes, I know that Derek Dooley played at UVA and his only official time at UGA was as a graduate assistant…. but I think we all acknowledge that he was a part of the family). For my money, Dooley’s doing it the right way, and Muschamp is doing it the wrong way (guaranteeing wins and claiming that he has only loyalty to people and not schools… we get it, you’re the Florida coach, but don’t act like UGA never happened. Even Urban Meyer professed that he’ll always have Gator in his heart as he accepted the Ohio State job).

So yeah, I don’t have any personal grudge against him other than the fact that I wish the Tennessee head coach nothing but difficulty, no matter who it is. Reading about what is going on at Tennessee reminds me of reading about the divisions in the athletic department at Michigan leading up to the hiring of Rich Rod, and then through his tenure there. It sounds like Dooley’s in a no-win situation.

Reports out of Athens are that Crowell was in green yesterday and that he refused to use the bike or anything else the coaches told him to do.

I talked to a Georgia freshman, medically redshirted this year at the Tucker-Flowery Branch game Friday night. When I asked about running backs for the Tech game he said he did not know. When asked specificially about #1, he simply shook his head in disgust.

Our top running back appears to be a Tyler Bray type with one exception. At least Bray attempted to play when hurt.

I find it strange none of the beat reporters said anything about Crowell in a green jersey. Unless I missed it. You got a name or something on the record?

Yeah it was on 790theZone about 1/2 hour ago. There was also reports on several CFB blogs. And then there was Mark Richt’s noticeable discomfort yesterday afternoon when asked about the running back situation. He said he did not want to talk about it and was clearly unhappy.

I agree that the beat reporters indicated that all was ok. But that was early in the practice before they were ushered out.

Look, no one hopes I am wrong more than me. And I might be, but Richt’s reaction yesterday threw up a bunch of red flags.

FWIW, he walked past my car yesterday morning with no visible limp.

Of course strolling through campus is not strapping it on for game time but nonetheless.

Not saying you are wrong, Bob. Just cruious where you got the info since I hadn’t read it anywhere. I have not seen it on any of the UGA blogs nor The Dawgbone. I don’t live in Atl so I didn’t hear it on 790.

The only place I have heard it is on 790theZone. I saw it on a couple of CFB blogs by Dawg posters. I have gone back to them to see if they have another source.

I have been wondering about this since Richt’s strange behavior at the presser yesterday afternoon.

All this might be a little “layin’ in the weeds” too. Could have learned a little from the Kentucky QB scam on UT. Crowell might not even warm up on the field.

Mike, I hope you are right. Only folks reporting anything are those on 790. They say he put the green on himself and then refused to do anything he was told to by the coaches. This would certainly match up with how Richt responded yesterday to the questions about running back.

Again, nothing would make me happier than to find out this is bogus. I would think UGA will come out soon and comment on it.

Whew, that UT stuff is outrageous. It’s not like Matt Sims is completely incapable. If Bray is such an “is-me” then bench his ass. Precious could tell Bray the deal, but tell the media that he’s not fully healed.

On Rogers, well, that cost him TWO schollies, didn’t it?

Again, I’m not going to weep for Tennessee’s troubles. There really is only one group of people this could happen to that would make it better and they’re looking at hard times right now too. It’s a good day to be a Dawg.

Mike Leach quote from the article linked above:
“You want to be able to run more plays than your opponents, because more plays generally mean that you have more opportunities to score.”

I could swear I read almost this exact same quote from an oft-criticized OC whose critics blast him for a lack of creativity while praising the innovation of Mike Leach. Do you mean to tell me that Bobo’s philosophy on going no-huddle mirrors an offensive philosophy of Mike Leach? Shhhh, don’t tell anybody.

Don’t worry. They won’t. They’ll just come back with their ignarrogance and hope for the uninformed. Leach also implies balanced attack until you cut loose an air attack on a team in disarray.

Once again, I think this whole “run more plays” thing is ridiculous. “Running more plays” has nothing to do with creating more points. An efficient offense gets more first downs, therefore scores more often, and likely runs more plays.

The number of plays run is a SIDE EFFECT of having a good offense, not the CAUSE of it (in addition to what your defense does to the other guys).

A “hurry up” offense is good for getting the defense off guard, but otherwise, simply executing “whatever you were going to execute anyway” faster increases the other side’s number of plays run, too.

If you really could control your offensive game to such a degree that you could CHOOSE to run more plays, regardless of what the other team was doing defensively, then you could do whatever you wanted to do anyway.

Score points – doesn’t matter if you do it with long passing plays, grinding drives on the ground, whatever – play to your strengths and score points. Attributing points scored to number of plays run is like saying umbrella sales increase the chance of rain.

ps Newt – my gripe with “run more plays” was not meant to be rude to you, Bobo, or Leach – I just think the “run more plays” thing is lunacy. Like the defense should plan on having the other team “run fewer plays”. Well, no s**t, Sherlock.

Agreed. Having never played the game (my time “in the arena” has been mostly in seat 37F or close to it), you can take my opinion for what it is worth, but the best way for an offense to run more plays is to have a defense that gets the other team’s offense off the field on 3rd down.

Well, I guess that’s all we need on hurs before the most important game of the year. Fortunately also that I don’t jump on pt spreads until Sat morn or just before game time, although I almost hit for the 14 pts by Legends and Bodog yesterday. This shit drives me nuts. If it is so simple that Crowell can give anyone a ration of crud, without so much as a “nagging injury” report, it would turn all the other rb dismissals on it’s ear. Something is off kilter and I don’t imply coaching staff. How can any player have an attitude problem in this positive atmosphere? It doesn’t make sense. If coaches want him to play hurt and he can’t will himself to pick up yards through pain, the old solution was to use pain killers, but that’s frowned on nowadays due to players not being aware of further injury while playing. Crowell is still listed as “probable” for this game.

Hopefully, someone can run this down quickly. Thanks, Bob, for reporting what is heard on public radio. We do need to know.

I have not seen the report anywhere other than the radio since I first posted this morning. Now 680theFan had about a 15 minute story pretty much echoing what I reported earlier.

Now, I know that they could very well be wrong. But I do know that Richt sounded as frustrated as I have ever heard him yesterday afternoon when asked about running backs. Something was up, that much was sure.

I hope IC can get his shit together and have a moment of life changing clarity. The players are sick of his attitude and coaches patience is wearing thin. I would not be surprised if IC is dismissed after the season.

Speaking of ugly, what would Cross Church, Inc., do about yesterday’s best GTP video? Scrub Kristi because of Cross Church, Inc.’s copyright claim. This is a sad day not only for Kristi but for all lovers of freedom and crazy people. Not only does Kristi have to put up with, “Gus was like, shut up!”, now she has to put up with, “Cross Church, Inc., was like shut up!”
