This is why I have always admired Gary Patterson:
TCU, even with two losses, came close to earning a berth to its third-straight BCS bowl. But the Horned Frogs are headed to the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 21 in San Diego to face Louisiana Tech, the WAC champion. And coach Gary Patterson said that’s OK.
“It’s only our fault,” Patterson said during a news conference Sunday evening after the final BCS standings were unveiled. “There’s no one to blame but TCU because we had two losses.”
No politicking. No whining. Just a classy acceptance of reality.
Of course, he’s no doubt licking his chops at his improved BCS prospects next year when TCU joins the Big 12. He deserves ’em.
“No politicking. No whining. Just a classy acceptance of reality.”
Refreshing.

Sounds like he’d be a good fit if we ever….

“Refreshing” or a man resigned to defeat in the face of tyrannical corporate complex that is the CFB post-season.
But way to find a quote that can spin your viewpoint on the post season.

For the record, Patterson has been consistent in this point. When undefeated and campaigning, he had the same message.

The Poinsettia Bowl was made a good bowl by the way they treat the teams there. SD Co Cred U spares no expense, has a great tourist city to offer and they have fun from what I understand. Isn’t that what the bowl experience is about? It ain’t like you’re in downtown Shreveport. He (TCU coach) sounds like Braer Rabbit.

Plus his TCU team will lay a half a hundred or more on La Tech and finish in the top 10 in the final polls. He has a lot to smile about.

I would wager that La. Tech can hang with the Horny Frogs, certainly through three quarters or so. The lil’ Bulldogs were right with So.Miss./Houston/Miss.St. until the final whistle and that coach of theirs Dykes (son of Spike) is a wily football man.

OK State’s Mike Gundy is the same story, except his team wasn’t looking at an at-large BCS bid, it was looking at the national championship. Gundy was honest about his feelings in the week leading up to the SECCG and his date with OU, and he said that objectively you’d probably have to pick Alabama as #2. Now, I imagine that if he had a vote in the poll, he would have put OSU #2, and that’s understandable. But you haven’t heard Gundy bitching or whining. He probably feels screwed, but he understands what happened… and HE’S BEING A MAN. HE’S 44.

At least he made his point, in duplicate, to that OU contractor that had been fiddling around in his house back in the preseason.

Patterson is a class act. He would be a candidate if I were ever an AD looking for a HC. Always puts a quality product on the field and handles himself well.
