Musical palate cleanser: just like a young boy should

I’m overdue for one of these and I can’t think of anything better to share with you than the opener off of that remarkable Rolling Stones digital release of a 1973 show I mentioned a couple of weeks ago.

The Stones at the height of their power were a helluva ride, weren’t they?  You’re crazy if you don’t grab this show.

How “The Brussels Affair 1973” tracks relate to Georgia 2011:

    “Brown Sugar” – Outback Bowl
“Gimme Shelter” – Mark when 0-2 this season
“Happy” – Mark when contract negotiations completed
“Tumblin’ Dice” – the whole season
    “Star Star” – Jarvis
    “Heartbreaker” – South Carolina
    “Angie” – Kristi
“You Can’t Always Get What You Want” – 2nd half LSU
    “Midnight Rambler” – Aaron
“Honkytonk Women” – Kristi and girlfriend posse
“All Down The Line” – Where accountability for special teams goes
“Rip This Joint” – Auburn this year
“Jumping Jack Flash” – Point at which Todd sees James Franklin
“Street Fighting Man” – Auburn last year

Funny. When I was fixing oatmeal for the kids this morning, I was trying to teach them this song. No dice for the 2 year old; he’ll get there, though.

I’m 31, so I missed the Stones at the height of their power, but my dad raised me with their music and they’re a favorite of mine. That’s why it infuriates me when modern pop acts try to co-opt the name of Mick Jagger to make themselves sound good. No, Kesha, you don’t get to say you only like guys who look like Mick Jagger just because his name rhymes with “swagger”. And, no, dude from Maroon 5, you do NOT have “the moves like Jagger.” If you try to follow up that statement by saying you have the “mooh-ooh-ooh-OOH-oooves like Jagger” while “ooh-ing” like a 12 year old girl, you most certainly do NOT have the moves like Jagger.

I always thought they were a great band, but Mick Taylor was the special sauce that turned them into a GREAT band. I was fortunate enough to see them at the Fox. Loved them.

Mick Taylor was (is) a helluva guitar player. And Keith is the best rhythm guitar player ever. Charlie does an awful lot with a little drum kit, too. No spinning upside down in a cage, just driving the beat and backing the band.
