What do the Intertubes have against Mark Richt?

https://twitter.com/#!/SethEmerson/status/147741745180971009

You know, on one level, it seems like we’ve gone far away from the hot seat rumors that enveloped Georgia’s coach at the beginning of the season.  But on another level – projecting the instability of Richt’s program – this new set of rumors seems like little more than the flip side of the same coin.

Gee, I wonder who stands to gain from that.

UPDATE:  Like this matters.

… Coach Mark Richt said again he plans to be at Georgia for the long haul despite his name being linked last week to the Texas A&M job (“I don’t know where all that came from”) and this week to the Penn State opening ( “I didn’t know about that. Is that’s what’s happening now? ).

“I’ve never been a guy to try and leverage a situation because the first day I got here I said I want to be at Georgia,” Richt said.

I wonder if all our fans who bemoan the fact that Bobo hasn’t been getting consideration for head coaching offers (or not having been rumored to be getting consideration) are more and more firmly in Richt’s corner with each rumored link to another job. I doubt it, but it’s worth consideration I suppose.

Right on, Senator … look no further than our SEC coaching brothers as to why these rumors keep popping up.

This might be a reach, but I will choose to believe that conference coaches are finding the recruiting in Georgia a little tougher at the moment … or UGA is popping up on more “top 5” lists for kids than in the previous couple of years.

There is an increasing hostility towards people who are openly Christian in this country in the media.

As long as Richt keeps winning, Georgia keeps improving, and the hot seat rumors never rear their head again people can speculate, write, tweet or say whatever the hell they want. Also if Richt ever decides UGA is not where God wants him to be all i have to say is thanks for what you’ve accomplished and best of luck. You’ve more than earned it.

There is a rumor here at my law firm that Richt is going to be hired as Of Counsel. Richt has yet to deny the rumors, lending credence to the claims. No word yet on his legal skills, however the firm suspects he will play well in front of a jury for at least 3/4 quarters.

Nick Saban to Texas when Mack Brown leaves/is fired next season. Spread the rumor and mark it down. It’s going to happen.

I could see that. The ship is clearly listing down in Austintown. Who does Bama then plug in to thwart the anguish? !Belichick! / !Mitt Romney! / !Mike Shula! Those Bammers will be clutching at straws and accepting most any outlet.

I thought Saban would be heading further north to Dallas next season. If Seattle opened the vault for (failed NFL coach turned college savior) Pete Carroll, imagine what Jones would do for Saban. The only holdup would be control of player personnel.

Wow that is a reach…. the Visor crashed and burned in the NFL and likely Saban would do it “again”. These are grown men the “Munchkin King” would be manhandling. Mr. Steve tried to float that meme…. and he is taller than Saban.
and has a Heisman trophy. No one in the NFL cares. Saban can only spend so much.

  7. Recruiting, Recruiting, Recruiting. Time to gret on with the “Ring Team”.
Still a lot of recruits that want to be Dawgs because of Richt, Bobo, Grantham, the pro style offense & the 3-4 NFL oriented defense.

Jones tried a coach with an ego in Jimmy Johnson, worked great until it blew up. That fancy stadium is not big enough for the egos of Jones and Saban.

Where to you find a guy that says that stuff…and actually means it! Especially in the coaching world. We all need to appreciate the man and what he brings to our Alma Mater.

I heard Richt was going to jump into the Presidential race as a GOP candidate because all the mainline candidates suck balls.

I think it’s a net positive for Richt, and by extension, the UGA program. As the Senator said, It turns around the “hot seat/has Richt lost his touch” discussions and replaces them with “Richt in demand by top programs” talk. Since none of the rumors are substantive (the PSU beatwriter for the Philly paper referenced “an anonymous tweet” as his source!) they can be easily dealt with. And until Richt does sign the new extension, it provides a nice bit of positive buzz for Richt (“He must be doing something right, TAMU and PSU are after him”) while recruiting.

That canard has its roots in the same place as the “hot seat” canard. Our enemies want CMR to be gone because he beats them, so it is a form of verbalized hope that they think might actually cause it to happen. Also, it places doubt in the minds of recruits which they hope to exploit by landing the recruit for themselves.

I mark this stuff down to news lull, especially among college football writers who have little to discuss between end of regular season and bowls. They sit in front of their monitors, fingers on keyboards, waiting on something to pop into their caffeine addled heads and junk like this comes out. We have no reason, none, zero, zilch to doubt Mark Richt when he says he’s where he wants to be and will stay there as long as he’s wanted.

Okay, back to recruiting and bowl prep…

This is 100 per cent true. Go back and compare CMR’s exact quotes from 2001, 2002, 2003, etc onthis same subject when it was widely speculated he would bolt for FSU and Miami at the first opportunity. The man has never waivered in over a decade despite some very hurtful and shallow fans and hundreds of media stories that were totally unfounded. It is hard to find men like that, but another reason I am proud to havehim as the face of our program. Just look at all the turmoil surrounding programs at UT, Penn State, USC, and

Sorry, I working from a pad. To finish, and add another dozen or so bigname programs to that list. It is easy to find many major uproars during Mark Richt’s tenure at UGA. We all spend a lot of time arguing and fussing over something we should be secure of, and thankful for.

Spot on Mac, some of these so called “fans” will one day learn the lesson of “you don’t know what you got til its gone” and will rue the day they complained about Coach Richt. He has integrity and a firm hand on the tiller of UGA’s boat. I hope he gets to retire from UGA and I’m confident we will not have some of the problems you see at other colleges in the SEC as long as Mark Richt is our coach. Long may he reign!
