I think you guys know I’m not one to follow the recruiting wars that closely here, at least not until the names are on the dotted line. But I think it’s encouraging that Georgia sits in the middle of the conference pack in that department right now, after a season in which Mark Richt’s future has been a topic of constant debate. (Not that anyone would be so crass as to bring that up on the recruiting trail, right?) Now that that’s been settled, hopefully Georgia’s able to finish off its 2012 class with a bang.
I was just lookingat Rivals and was dissapointed to see how far down UGA’s class is ranked. I’m wondering if Rivals is really on top of things.
Then I log onto GTP and see this encouraging note from the Senator.
One thing for certain is nothing’s for certain until they sign…just ask Chizak..he just lost a five star kid who de-commited and swapped to Alabama. That has to hurt.

Take a look at ESPN’s ranking to really get confused. We went to 8 after Marshall signed. By comparing these types of rankings, it should allay any fears as to what we have concerning comparisons to other schools. It’s all in the eyes (and minds) of the bee-holers.

A-B-C. A-Always, B-Be, C-Closing. Always be closing. ALWAYS BE CLOSING. A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention – Do I have you attention? Interest – Are you interested? I know you are, because it’s fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision – Have you made your decision, for Christ? And Action. A-I-D-A. Get out there – you got the prospects coming in. You think they came in to get out of the rain? A guy don’t walk on the lot lest he wants to buy. They’re sitting out there waiting to give you their money. Are you gonna take it? Are you man enough to take it? What’s the problem, pal?

I love the Glengarry Glen Ross references.
The funny part about it is the first time I saw it, my straight-laced, God-fearing Southern Baptist sales manager showed it and actually apologized for the rough language.

I’m trying to figure out how TN and Fl are outdoing UGA. I believe this will change before signing day, but it’s kind of discouraging that these programs, in disarray as they are, are looking at better recruiting classes than UGA (for the moment at least).
I’m certainly no recruiting expert.
Light shedders, please?

I think those ratings are based on the total number of (verbal) commitments. That number is like a preseason poll. Don’t worry until signing day.

Quantity vs Quality, imo…..no worries here.

As LSU made plain in the SECCG, quantity matters a great deal in football.

Quality…quantity– from what I saw.

In reference to TN & FL recruiting, LSU wasn’t mentioned.

There’s some quality in that UF class, but I agree somewhat there.
I referenced LSU because roster management is a huge aspect of success that is just now being addressed with the over signing debate.
It is imperative for a school like UGA, that does not oversign, to make that it’s classes are full and the evaluation is top notch.
I’ll never understand fans that don’t care about recruiting. Winning in February doesn’t guarantee anything in the SEC, but it is a prerequisite to success.

We’re in on top prospects who generally wait to the last minute.

I think the recruiters for those schools are selling the very appealing idea of these kids being ‘saviours’ They can come in and make a huge, long lasting impact on the ‘floundering’ programs. At least that’s what I’d do…

If recruits perceive that a team that is a power traditionally has inferior players then the recruits see an opportunity to play immediately for a high-powered program. Florida is only 2 years removed from a BCSNC. UT is the second-winningest SEC program all-time. The lure of playing early has a very strong appeal.

In response to ugly dawg, recruiting rankings are figured by summing the stars of all prospects committed to a class to arrive at a point total which is used to rank the respective classes. therefore if you only have 17 guys in your class as UGA currently does you will most likely be ranked lower than other schools like Texas who have over 22 guys committed. In a nutshell there’s no cause for alarm SO LONG AS we sign the kids that we’re in the hunt for.

Pretty sure we’re about to on a little run in recruiting.
Definitely think everyone will be feeling good about this recruiting class come signing day.

Also, the “star” averaging doesn’t mean snot when you take a kicker and/or some unknown (unknown because the dipshit raters didn’t happen to look at him) where they give 2 “stars” for guys who score more than any member of the team (kickers) and for some guy that may make the O line in his freshman year (Brown). You don’t know about those players until you plug them into an SEC environment. I wouldn’t take ratings very seriously except when you want to do some supercilious bragging (“Yea! We have a top five class!”). Plus, I’ve found that the UGA recruiters can spot really good player no matter the stars. That “star” contest bullshit is what led to the demise of FU this year.

My concerns were at RB and O line. It seems that those needs will be met. There is also another big guy for the nose. Now go sign some LBs and some DBs. WR seems set as does QB. Maybe a couple more big uglies and there is another good class.

The best way to solidify a permanent first place position in our division is to put back-to-back top recruiting classes together. Getting Marshall to start the recruiting stretch run was huge.
