Commence screaming from Columbia in 3… 2… 1…

Per Seth Emerson:

… It is all but official, based on talking to someone with knowledge of the schedule talks, that Georgia will not play Alabama next year. A trip to Missouri early in the season (probably Sept. 8, the second week) will replace the previously-scheduled trip to South Carolina, which will be moved to midseason (probably Oct. 5, the sixth week).

If that’s how it plays out, the Dawgs wind up with an easier schedule than the one they faced this year, while South Carolina, in addition to seeing the Georgia game move a month later, supposedly gets LSU and Arkansas as its opponents from the West.  Yowza.

You know, we’ve always had tough schedules, and took the brunt of the change in ’92 and (’02 was it?).

One time we get the “break” and all the whining begins.

As someone said and showed by records, UGA playing Auburn vs USC playing ARk has tradionally not been very balanced.

I was kind of hoping for a UGA AL game, with a rematch for the MNC…now that would piss some other conferences off. ; } >

How bout an undefeated Bama beats an undefeated UGA the first time, one loss UGA beats undefeated Bama in the SEC Title Game, and then one loss UGA beats one loss Bama again for the MNC?

So it looks as if the Illuminati’s tentacles are stretching even to Birmingham in its ever-broadening scheme to lift the Dawgs back to the pinnacle of Southern football!

South Carolina never, never complained about anybody else’s schedule until they got their dynasty going. I’d like to take a look at their schedules since 1992; I bet there were some weak ones in there. They were too mediocre to take advantage. Typical of their well deserved inferiority complex; they go ballistic the second somebody else gets a break.

You know, everybody is assuming that UGA has gotten a break here. The Missouri team I saw on TV last night doesn’t look exactly like a pushover. The game will be played in Columbia Missouri and it will be the first SEC game (and first SEC home game) played by Missouri–ever as well as their home opener. Missouri is a program that since current coach Gary Pinkel has been there averages about 9 wins a year. They will have all summer to get ready for UGA and the SEC. They WILL be ready for this game.

Don’t bet with Skeptic Dawg (I think it was Puffdawg who named him “Septic”) cause he doesn’t pay. Told him to send it to Bobo and haven’t heard a thing. Some folks shouldn’t bet. They aren’t mature enough or honest enough to carry through. And I resent you jumping on the easy pickins so quickly. I’m kinda with the Mayor on this caution thingy. Don’t count on no chickens until the week of the game.

Well, it’s a much more favorable draw to get Missouri than Alabama. But compared to this year’s slate, I don’t know that it’s easier.

We have to travel to Missouri (new to the conf, but still a decent team), and to SC. We only have 3 SEC home games.

Yeah, the non-conf gets easier by trading in BSU. But the conf slate in 2011 wasn’t as tough (in my opinion) than the proposed 2012.

Who really cares about SC whining? They have never been a part of the Big 6 in the SEC before, and two winning seasons haven’t changed that a bit. With 2 more teams added to the SEC they will likely fall even further down the pecking order. And what makes Arky a major power all of a sudden? Lot of johnny-come-latelys all of a sudden running their mouths. SC needs to get a winning record against the ACC in their won state before worrying where they are in the pecking order of SEC teams.

When you have EVER won an SEC title you might get consideration to have a seat at the table, but that still will not justify your whining like little babies (just because Bama does it regularly doesn’t mean it is the way to act.) SC and Arkansas have the same number of SEC titles as Mizzou and A&M. Frankly, LSU is the only team that teams in the East need fear, they are the winningest team in the SEC this century, and I believe we have played them 5 times…more than any other team in the West except our annual mandated game with The aU.

why isn’t anyone screeching that Alabama is using its influence at the conference home office to avoid the rising power in the East? Shouldnt Saban be on the hot seat? He’s only won one SEC title in 5 years.

He could be right. They aren’t exactly fighting to get TN off their every year schedule are they? The whole “West is a beast” is a crock. These program fluctuations go in cycles and Bama isn’t the “bad boy” they think they are. Hasn’t been that long since they lost to La Monroe and got turned down by RichRod. I think we have won 4 of the last 5 from them haven’t we? Doesn’t mean that will continue forever but LSU is only team over there that is a consistent power, certainly not Arkansas.

All the media and a very vocal bunch of narrow minded homers who have been given a national stage with F’Bomb (for some reason.) are driving this East West power discussion. I think we should get our home game from Ol Miss but we don’t have any control. Everyone I talk with would welcome that home game with The Tide next year. Not gonna happen I guess, maybe meet in Atlanta if they can win their side.

Gee Mac, too much Finebaum over the holidays?

By my count the last six games go 3-3, but I could be wrong. The first two of those games go back to the Stallings era anyways.

In terms of being considered a “bad boy,” I’m not really sure what the qualifications are. Winning 54 games over the last five years and playing for two titles isn’t a bad start, though.

For the record, I think things are lining up just right for the Dawgs to make a serious run in ’12. Scheduling is a huge factor and it looks like it’ll be on y’all’s side next year.

          Have a good one.

Sorry, BD. It was 3 of the last four, not 4 of 5; just staying in this century (the CMR era). Didn’t have too much F’Bomb, those fans have driven me (and all non-Tide fans to other shows during that time slot, but they are certainly making guys like you look bad as they draw the entire South down with them. Why doesn’t Sirius pull the plug on that group? It has remained the local show it was before they gave Pawllll a chance to be an adult. Not saying you guys aren’t trending up, but my point about LSU remains the same. The attacks about dodging the West powers is tiresome, and the inclusion of the Hawgs in that is very laughable. Might as well accuse you guys of dodging us this year and next, makes the same amount of sense and comic relief.

            • I am certainly no fan of Finebaum. I’ve been exposed to him since the 80s and he frustrates me.

He is clearly talented and has tons of credible sources, but he has chosen to take the low road and become the Jerry Springer of sports radio. In the 80s and early 90s he was a jerk, but he did pretty good investigative work and did some hard hitting interviews on his show. Now it’s become too easy to just engage the screaming masses.

I do listen occasionally when a big story is breaking, but the show otherwise makes my ears bleed.

As for the east-west issue – who really cares? In most years if you make it to Atlanta you can state your case and prove your worth. Who cares who you had to play to get there?

Good characterization, Jerry Springer-like it is. I just don’t get the execs at Sirius/XM not stepping in; even the hosts of other shows mock the lunacy from 3-7PM. Unfortunately, that is prime time for CFB talk.

I don’t care about the East/West thingy and frankly, in almost 20 years there has never been this much discussion of it. Surely SC and Arky cannot have this much influence over media stories. The game in Atlanta settles the only thing that truly matters over the long haul in SEC football discussions.

Maybe it’s just me but my eyeball observations have been that under Richt, wins and losses have been 90% a function of how good or bad Georgia was and 10% a function of schedule. The good Georgia teams have played well regardless of how difficult the schedule was or wasn’t (Example: every team from 2002- 2005)and the crappy teams have played crappy even if they got an easy slate. (2010 and 2006 come to mind). My point simply being, if Georgia puts their nose to the grindstone and works hard they can beat anybody in 2012, slack off and even an easy schedule will not insure a good year.
