What is with this sudden bowl game epidemic of missed field goals in overtime?

I’m totally digging this bowl season, btw. Lots of really close games, OT games, back-and-forth. It’s too bad they don’t count for anything…

I’m with you, the majority of games have been great. But has anyone ever seen a team luckier or dare I say more !favored! to get chances to win than that Michigan team last night? They were run, athletically and schematically, straight off the Superdome turf but every single questionable decision went in their favor. It would be nice, as a Dawg backer, to think Lady Luck would smile like that in a big game someday.

LADY LUCK is something Richt has not had while at UGA. I do not know if his beliefs run counter to the idea of Good Luck. I once said good luck to a person who told me point blank, “I do not care for what you said because my religion and I do not believe in it “

My dad will tell you straight up we don’t have Lady Luck anymore since Larry’s been gone and I think he may whole-heartedly believe it…heck, I’m beginning to wonder.

That was the first kicker I’ve seen that had a Charles Barkley hitch in his motion. First time I saw it, I thought it was a misstep, but then he did it on every kick. He even said after the game that he does that all the time.
BTW, who is our kicker next year? Do we have one already lined up?

We have a commit from Marshall Morgan, the #1 K from Florida.
From what I can tell, he, Austin __ from Marist (UF commit) and Adam Griffith from Calhoun (Bama commit) are 1A-1B-1C. There’s that little difference between them.
I did read that Morgan’s HS coach was Blair Walsh’s HS coach, so that may explain why we offered him first.
Speaking of BW, anybody else hear that he became infatuated with some band around Athens and that may have affected his efforts this season?

I heard from a guy in the athletic department that his girlfriend broke up with him. I kid you not. The slump started after that.

If true, that’s pretty bad. Athens is a great town to get over getting dumped by your college gf. A GREAT town for it. Should be no slumps of that nature.

Luck. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.
Preparation is knowing that you have no running backs. If you have no running backs, and your O line is below average in the rushing phase of the game…then your game plan and game management has to to take those factors into play. But in defense of Richt, maybe letting Walsh try it was the play. After all other than the oft injured, unmotivated, Crowell, there is not one running back with the quickness or speed to come out of the I back slot into the line gaps. How many times have you seen Bobo run a stretch play for the I back. He does not because none, not one, has the speed required in SEC or D1 football.
Where were the fullbacks in that along with the TEs. I would like for Bobo or Richt to explain their game plan and game management decisions. Hopefully, Coach Richt has visions of what a running game is. He has yet to understand it or recruit for it. I’d recruit ever lineman and RB I could this season, even if I had to oversign some. In the mean time I’d look to put more running plays in the play book. One play that would come out…Murray running with the ball.
Alot of FG attempts. Many of the teams in the bowl games in the past few games are very evenly matched. Games are decided on a few plays [made or not made], game management [like getting 13 seconds back on the clock and driving the ball the length of the field to tie a game under 2 minutes…happens often], and to some degree officiating [called or not called]. Think coaches play for FGs too often. Ask Luck, or even Murray. How many plays do those guys make in a season versus a kicker who is coached to think about coeds prior to executing a play. Have not heard Luck or Murray say their coaches used that technique. Perhaps that will workd with Murrray. Coach Richt to Murray prior to a deep sideline pass on the last play of the game to win the 2012 SEC championship. Well, maybe not Coach Richt, but Coach Bobo. “Murray, that is not Mitchell streaking down the sideline but Playboy’s November center fold with only shoulder pads and helmet on”. Now what do you think the percentage of that completion versus him saying that to Walsh looking at making a 60 yarder.
