If we can’t have the Zooker on the Plains, this wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize.
Tennessee, he’s got SEC head coaching experience, in case SOD doesn’t work out. Just sayin’.

UT has contacted former UT asst ron zook about DC job. Zook is former head coach at fla and illinois and has been successful DC. he'd listen

“And Georgia fans, don’t be turds. Enjoy this. Soak it up. It’s awesome. If you don’t win this year, it’s still not a failure. It’s a heck of a run. Back-to-back in the Playoff era hasn’t been done. So, to ask for a third I feel like it’s gluttonous. I feel like it’s not OK. But we’ll be in the mix.”-- David Pollack, On3.com, 5/9/23
The man must be lights-out on the cocktail party circuit, or whatever it is athletic administrations throw to let it all hang out, becuase I’m not sure his on-field results merit this continued demand. I’d be interested to learn how these retread hires fare (even in the short term). Zook is now down to the threads.

It is safe to say that the cocktail party crowd eats him up.

Supposedly Zook is a great recruiter. He knows Georgia, too. I, for one, would not be crazy about the Zooker getting that job.

I agree with you on the recruiting part, but I would also say that SOD isn’t short on recruiters. He’s short on actual football coaches.

I am hearing Van Gorder is going to Auburn…must be about to be fired by the Falcons…guess he will stay there at least one season.

I love how Jimmy helpfully points out, “he’d listen.”
“Why sure, Derek, I’ll be happy to hear what you have to say,” Coach Zook said, while motioning for his kids to beat on the front door. “But I’ve got so many schools beating down my door with head coaching offers, you’re going to have to pony up some serious dough!”

Is UT that hard up? (Smirking.)

“Has been a successful DC”????
Where? He was so bad in that role with Florida Spurrier demoted him to special teams coach, and hired Stoops. He was awful in that role with the Saints. Please, oh please, someone we compete against hire this man as DC. Even Bobo might be able to outcoach him.

Zook coached at Florida ’91 -’95 and was the DC at Florida 91 thru 93 and was HC of Florida for 3 seasons (2002-2004) . After he left Florida for the pros and returned when Spurrier did the same. The FireRonZook thing was started as soon as he was hired. He lasted about as long as Rodriguez did at Michigan. Maybe longer than Penn States new coach will at his new gig. (just sayin’)
Stoops replaced Bobby Pruett at Florida NOT Zooks (not that facts matter) . BECAUSE –>>Zook ,then the special teams coach and Associate HC was offered the DC job again after the ’96 bowl ass whipping by Nebraska but declined and choose instead to coach ST in the pros (starting with the Pitt Steelers) not a bad gig.
“Zook did have some notable accomplishments. He handed both the 2002 Georgia Bulldogs and 2003 LSU Tigers their only loss of the year. His Gators defeated three highly-ranked teams in succession in 2003, all away from home (LSU, Arkansas and Georgia). In his final game he defeated the Florida State Seminoles at Tallahassee, something Steve Spurrier never did. This victory occurred on the night FSU dedicated Bobby Bowden Field, leading Gator fans to refer to it as Ron Zook Field. Zook had winning records against SEC foes Georgia (2–1) and Auburn (1–0). Zook was regarded as a fine recruiter who brought a great deal of talent to Florida during his tenure as head coach. Following the Gators’ victory over Ohio State in the 2007 BCS National Championship Game, Urban Meyer praised Zook for recruiting the large class of seniors who played in the game. Twenty-two of the 24 starters were recruited to Florida by Zook.” …..FIreMikeBobo! Indeed.

Assuming my stalker is saying this in response to me, I don’t see anywhere in this long rambling that shows how he’s a) not a horrible DC, b) was demoted by Spurrier from DC to ST coach, c) was awful as DC with the Saints, d) that it would be a bad thing if one of our rivals hired him to be their DC, or e) that Spurrier hired Stoops.
Keep on sayin, sooner or later you might actually address a point made instead of showing off your amazing google/wikipedia reading skills.

Regardless of the Zooker’s merits as a DC, too much baggage and too much drama. Talk about yer bottom of the barrel.

II hear ya! Not a big Zooker guy. Don’t have the glasses. I’m not a fan of the “trash the coach” meme that is prevalent among some blogs. It wouldn’t be a stretch to suggest that that is their only draw to the Dawgosphere they have. The shock and negativity of it all….. Unlike here at GTP. (yeah I sucked up.) Thaz my point … nuff said.

Looks like he’s pulling the “leave before they can fire me” card from his days (day?) in Statesboro.
I wonder if he’ll be able to coexist with Chizik, considering the rumors that Chizik was trying to take more control over the offense and defense this past year.

My thoughts exactly.
I ,of course, would love to see Chizik and BVG have power struggles on the sidelines next year
