  2. So, what are they thinking on The Flats? Surely a straight A HS student is going to do fine in calculus at Atlanta Metro, so it ain’t akademiks. Too many offers and this kid’s too low on the talent pole? Seems to me they need all the defensive help they can get.

The crazy thing is once Junior committed to Tech, he didn’t look around, so now he is in a bind, but if he had looked at other schools while being a Tech commit, CPJ would have pulled his offer earlier.

Paul Johnson strikes me as a man who doesn’t cast off talent lightly; he heaves it away with great force. (Stolen from The Wire)

  5. I’m not going to lie, the Tech thing is pretty sketchy. I realize that a schools academics may be light, but the kid is pulling a 3+ GPA and can’t get into Tech? I got into Tech with a 3.7 GPA (didn’t go there, obviously) out of high school. It’s not *that* selective.

The UCF thing is strange, but ultimately comes down to the fact that George O’Leary has a relationship of sorts with Tech’s coaches, and they know they won’t play each other under almost all circumstances. Why not help the kid out to a school you won’t contend against?

    • Not grades. Test scores is the problem.

GT admissions left Johnson out to dry here. Could have signed him and see if he could pull his test scores up, but if he did not then he would have had to sit out a year due to transferring to another school.

Even UCF wants him to take the ACT again.

If yo look at the schedule strength comparisons, you can see the reversal and surpassing of the difference between UGA and SC. If SC had played LSU, their ranking would have been right up there. My point? This is a lousy way to compare schedule strength when it’s dependent on playing or not playing one school. It denigrates itself.

Paying Glazier is money well spent. I was surprised that the bill wasn’t higher. Too bad that is how far you have to go in investigating yourself before the NCAA does, but it is what it is.

“Coach Johnson, isn’t that kind of a dick move?”
    “Is there another kind?”

As for that kid getting his offer yanked by Tech, the real tragedy is he went to five football games this past season, and all were Tech home games.

“Obviously, we weren’t picking a football program we thought was guaranteed to play for the national championship.”

    That’s gold.
