Paul Johnson tries to sell us some historical perspective on his glorious reign – the operative word being “tries”.
You go back and you look at the last four years, we’ve probably won more games than anybody since Coach (Bobby) Dodd, so they’ve actually performed well. (Ed. note: Tech won 43 games from 2008 to 2011, third most since Dodd’s retirement for a four-year span since 1966. Tech won 46 between 2006 and 2009.)
True, he did say “probably”.
He goes on to chide the fans for having “selective memories about how it used to be”. Gee, I wonder where they got that notion from.

Coach Johnson, don’t delude yourself for even a second into believing that the Tech faithful have forgotten about George O’Leary, and that they wouldn’t take him over you in a half of a heartbeat. Oh sure, they make their noise about being offended over the resume or being angry that he would dare leave Tech for a better job, but if he came calling, they would take him back in a span of time so short that you’d need the most powerful computer on Tech’s campus just to calculate it. Why? O’Leary beat us three times in a row, and he did it twice with the benefit of bullshit referee calls that still get Georgia fans angry to this day and allow Techies the glee of twisting the knife despite the fact that they’ve lost 10 of 11 in the series. Techies aren’t going to forget it, Coach Johnson, so don’t waste your breath trying to convince them that the last few years have been the greatest period of time since Bobby Dodd. They know that your ACC title got taken away, too. So, stuff it.

Having reveled in the misery on the GT message boards following their loss to us last year, I’ve started wondering if losing to them in ’08 might not have been even crueler than beating them and extending the streak. They had one good game — sorry, scratch that, one good quarter — against Georgia and that was all it took to convince them they were heroes who were on the verge of completely turning the tide in the Clean Old-Fashioned Hate rivalry. And Paul Johnson, for all his no-B.S. swagger, clearly drank as much of the Kool-Aid as he could get, too.
Now the Techies are settling back down into their usual comfortable inferiority complex and even CPJ is reduced to spinning the Jackets’ record. Couldn’t be happening to a nicer guy, or a nicer fan base.

That and when CPJ let Ealey score in ’10 to get the ball back for one more last ditch effort at scoring. Those two moments makes them feel warm and fuzzy because they’re convinced he’s a superior coach dealt a short hand in talent. Nevermind the fact that one of a coach’s primary jobs is recruiting and developing said talent. I’ll take the 3-1 record when determining which coach is better, but I’ve learned that it’s useless to try and argue with whatever soothes the Tech man’s inferiority complex.

It is always nice to beat Tech. Never gets old. However, I am growing bored with our biggest win being over the Jackets. It is time to step up and actually beat someone that matters! The Gaytor win this season was a tad hollow due to their overall lack of talent. The Auburn win was nice coming off of 2010, but they were a mess for most of the season. UT and SOD? A train wreck that lost to Kentucky who played without an actual QB. So, I am finished picking on little brother in downtown Atlanta. I want to beat someone of import.

Move out of state. You will appreciate the wins over FL if you live in FL, over Auburn if you live in AL, over Ten if you live in Ten, etc. Your perspective is skewed but when you get it rubbed in your face year round that all changes, believe me.

The renunciation of the old name came with the fiat that you would be a supportive Dawg since the error of your negative ways had been shown to be wrong (your confession, not mine). For what it is worth, I am simply tired of our biggest W being over Tech. Beating Tech is nice. But I would like to win a few ( several actually) against higher quality opponents. When our biggest victory of the year is over a second rate ACC team, that is not up to par. Do you not agree? And yes, I spent 4 1/2 glorious years at UGA (1991-1996). Does that now increase my fandom level or decrease it because I question our level of success. And no I am not foolin’ around now, nor was I last year. The only difference now is that I am resigned to the fact that for better or worse we are stuck with Richt. He will be here for the foreseeable future.

“Stuck” is not a word that fits Richt’s years as Head Coach. Your characterizations of him was shown to be drivel in the past and it remains so. That is also evident from your remarks about a memorable win over Auburn. The same goes for the FU, Tenn and Kentucky game. You use old team caricatures for reasoning which don’t set too well. You conveniently left out your name change and other atonements which elicited forgiveness from fans and welcomed you aboard. Didn’t last long , did it? Insincerity becomes you.

So you are of the opinion that the UT, Gaytor and Auburn W’s were high quality wins? Of those 3, Auburn was the biggest due to the previous year. But those 3 teams were not good football teams, look at their records. Richt is what he is, and it is obvious that we differ in our opinion of him. We can both agree that he will be here for some time to come. Do you not crave wins in bigger games? That is what I want, regardless of who the HC is.

“Big games” is a relative term. Our 3rd to 12th games were big games according to the comments on this blog, and every time we won the next “big game,” the opponent was immediately dawgraded by the likes of you, leaving Tech as our biggest win.
Consider this for a moment: We beat an 8-5 Auburn team whose only losses were to #1, 2 and 3 BCS teams as well as the ACC champ and us by 38 points. I want to win the Super Bowl too, but in the mean time I’m not going to pretend like a 38 point victory over an 8-5 team isn’t a quality win.

33 games? That averages out to about 8 wins a year. Didn’t they fire Chan because he was stuck at 7 or 8 wins a year? Oh, he had a bad record against UGA. Well, 1-3 doesn’t look too sporty either. To make matters worse they had to pay Chan 1 mill a year for 4 years and now they are paying off the Bball coach they fired. This from a program that can’t fill a 55,000 seat stadium. No wonder their athletic programs in the red.

Maybe I got the season records wrong.
As for the Chantastic Johnson years, 2006 through 2009 produced nowhere near 46 wins.
2006: 9-5
2007 7-6
2008 9-4
2009 10-3
9 + 7 = 16, 16 + 9 = 25, 25 + 10 = 35.
Chan’s last 2 years totaled 16 wins, averaging 8 per year. PJ’s record at Tech is 33 wins in 4 years, averaging 8.25 per year. With the benefit of Chan’s 2007 recruiting class, the best at Tech in years, PJ won 25 games in 3 years, averaging 8.33 wins per year.

this is the same Tech math that produced a seating capacity of 45,000 plus in a 40,000 seat stadium. They can’t count, they can’t tell the truth, and they can’t beat UGA
