Don’t cry for me, Gainesville.

This weekend, between the fried shrimp and classic cars, I managed to read this epic troll from Mike Bianchi.  And when I say epic, I mean epic.  I’m not sure how Bianchi ever tops this, for one:

As the years have passed since he was run out of Florida, I’ve often wondered whether Zook got a fair shake — from fans, from administrators and from those of us in the media. When you see where the program is now after Urban Meyer left it in a mess, the Zook years are starting to look pretty good. Zook’s teams were never as pathetic as UF has been the past two seasons, when the Gators won just 15 games and trotted out offenses that were unwatchable.

As the years roll by, UF fans more and more seem to appreciate what Zook did for the program.

Gosh, that almost makes you wonder why Jeremy Foley didn’t man up, admit his mistake and beg Zooker to come back and salvage the program when Corch left.  Who really cares about those two national titles Florida won under Meyer, anyway?

Speaking of which, a man can dream can’t he?

Two years after Zook was axed, Meyer won the national title with 21 of 22 Zook recruits starting for the team. Zook still wonders what might have happened if he had been able to survive longer than 21/2 years at UF. Would he have won a national title?

I don’t know,” he says, “but I sure would have liked to have had the opportunity to try.”

Spoken like a man who was Croom’d.

Zook just shakes his head.

“That’s my legacy to the profession,” he says. “I’m the first guy who had a FireTheCoach.com website. I had no chance. From the day I walked into the introductory press conference, I was fired.”

Bianchi has painted his masterpiece.   A man can do great things when the threat of being banished to Seat 37F no longer looms large.

  1. The Zooker was a great recruiter and a lousy game coach. How CMR lost twice to him is still the biggest head-scratcher – Ron Zook probably cost us the ’02 national championship with screen passes and an epic bed-wetting by the Dawgs.

We’ll find out if Corch was a genius or able to take advantage of the GPOOE in an offense designed perfectly for his ability to run between the tackles and throw 5 yard passes that became 80-yard TDs.

Here’s to Corch falling flat on his face in C-bus!

Personally — and I say this as someone who can stand neither Meyer nor the Buckeyes — I hope his offense works to the point where the Buckeyes leave the rest of the B1G walking funny. Why would I want the B1G to be the conference that finally “figures out” Meyer’s scheme, particularly when so few teams in the SEC could?

And after wringing their hands so furiously over Meyer’s supposedly below-board recruiting tactics, getting their asses handed to them by a former SEC coach is precisely what those sanctimonious schmucks deserve.

Zook’s right. He never got a fair shake at Florida. Neither will Mus-chump. The University of Florida “fans” will run Mus-chump out of Gainesville on a rail in 2 more years max.

    • I think the Zooker showed how he would have done with a “fair shake” at Illinois. Regardless, after taking the whole team to confront a frat house, he cooked his own goose. No way he could retained after that nutiness, Crooming aside.

    Dear Bianchi:

a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.

    Love, the Zooker.

All the old coaches look better after a few years of losing seasons and some beer goggles.

Boy that Bianchi is a real stand up guy. What courage. Just the kind of guy you want in a foxhole with you.

FWIW, “Zooked” came before “Croomed”. See my Gravatar? (I knew that scan would come in handy someday!)

I liked Zook. I have a cousin who is semi-famous in Gator circles who had leukemia when Zook was coach at UF. Zook spent a lot of time with Nick in the hospital when he was getting his chemo. My cousin got better, and has been in remission for over five years now, and I admit that doesn’t make Zook a good coach. But, it makes him a good person, and I doubt I would be able to say the same thing about Corch Meyer.

I hope UM kicks ass in the Big 10 and then gets his own handed to him in the BCS by an SEC team. I hope this happens year after year until Michigan hires LM away from LSU.
As far as Muchamp getting a fair shake at Florida, I don’t think it would make much difference. Florida fans were spoiled with Spurrier, taken aback by the Zooker, and re-spoiled with corch Meyers. Muschamp has a lot to live up to in their collective shadows. I don’t think he will. There’s just not a lot of Spurriers and Meyers quality coaches around.
Muschamp is most likely all ready in trouble. Florida fans are not easily contented. I believe it’s their time in the barrel and I’m lovin’ it.

Let’s wait to anoint Corch until we can look at a few years sans Tebow. I saw one wo him in Gainesville and it was a beauty. Now SOS, he’s good. No question. Still hate him. Corch?

As usual, I’ll just point out that it’s easy to be a big man and throw stones at Urban Meyer after he’s gone. Bianchi’s a coward. You didn’t see this stuff when Meyer was in charge in Gainesville.
