Thursday morning buffet

In case some of you have the munchies…

  • It looks like Fox is planning a throw down with ESPN.  If so, every sports organization should be licking its chops over the increased competition.  Those of us with cable bills won’t be so thrilled.
  • Who said this“It’s funny. I think I have raised more money for the University of Alabama than I have Georgia these last three years.”
  • Yeah, this is gonna happen.
  • It’s a shame that James Franklin let his on field demeanor obscure the coaching job he did last year, because it was pretty impressive.
  • I can’t help but wonder where this is going to lead.
  • Mark Bradley (yeah, I know) surveys the offseason changes for the Falcons and notes that there was “no real remorse when defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder left for Auburn”.
  • The mad scientist aspect to Todd Grantham may be coming in real handy about now.

No pickup on the ‘Tree and Rambo suspensions?

Are they having “random” drug testing for 100 football and all other athletes? How random is it when your starters get cut down one after the other? It calls the question : Are drug tests given often or is the football team toking up every day after practice? Are they targeted after holidays or time off to relax or are these tests indeed “random”?
With this many starters getting hit after holidays/spring break, it calls into question the term “random”. The timing and the players tested fail the significance test for “random”. What gives?

If it’s mj, a misdemeanor, why the multiple games? Is the weed here so much better than elsewhere that of all the D-1 schools and players in the SEC, why don’t we hear of other players getting hit by “random” testing? Are we pointedly more honest or do we think that no other players smoke in college ball? Everyone knows the “yes” and “no” respectively of that question. Something doesn’t smell right and I’m not referring to pot smoke.

It’s too bad HW can’t say that about Georgia’s “leaders” on defense.

Of course there was no remorse when VanGorder left the Falcons. He did a good job in Atlanta, but unlike his days in Athens, I never got the feeling that he was ahead of the offenses he was facing. I never felt like his defenses were controlling the football game and the offense could just sit back and manage the contest. He’s a brilliant defensive mind, but I think it’s pretty fair to say that he’s better suited for the college game. I shudder to think what he’s picked up in his NFL years that he’s ready to apply to college.

I concur. Outside of Spoon and an erratic Abraham he never had any dynamic playmakers. Him being at Auburn isn’t good for UGA.

Other than Abraham, and arguably Grimes, “guru” Dimitroff hasn’t brought any above average talent to the Falcons D. BVG, probably the best coach on the team, was a scapegoat. Not as if teams were knocking down the doors to sign the long list of falcon free agents either. Wait and see – Falcons D is going to be considerably worse next season. The only chance I give them to get back to playoffs is if the underachieving offense finally gets their ship together.

Cojones, the only answer I have for you is that this is the second failed test for both of them, that’s why they are getting multiple game suspensions.

When did Tree have a 1st failed test? 1st test results in 1 game? Right? I remember Rambo’s but not Tree’s?

        I didn’t remember Tree’s either.

Grantham wants the best 11 players on the field. So does Bobo. Soon, that may be the same 11 guys.

Fox competing head to head against ESPN has to be good for the public. The key is to get the “a la carte” option authorized by Congress where people can pick what networks they want included on their personal TVs. That would instill direct competition thereby forcing ESPN to be responsive to the wants of the public. As things stand now, ESPN gets paid directly by the cable/satelite provider and is included as a station on everyone’s TV whether you want it or not, and a portion of the cable bill is dedicated directly to ESPN and you cannot opt out. All you can do is cancel the whole thing.

  8. Is it me or has Van Gorder just had a really weird career for a guy that used to be one of the hot coordinators in the game. Self-sabotage it seems…
