And in a shocking development…

Really, who could have expected that Bobby Petrino wasn’t straight with the people he worked with?  (And yes, to answer your first question, Petrino does have a morals clause in his contract.)

Does he survive the storm?  His AD is clearly pissed, but I think it’s going to come down to how much the Pork Rind Jimmys of that neck of the woods care about it.  My guess is that after a couple of days of reflection they’ll find they can live with it, as long as the 10-win seasons continue to go along with the deal.

It’ll be a helluva way to run a football program, though.

UPDATE:  Andy Staples cites a parallel tale.

Long is not the first athletic director to face this type of predicament. In May 1999, Alabama AD Bob Bockrath’s coach, Mike DuBose, lied about a relationship with a secretary after she filed a harassment complaint. Ultimately, the truth came out and the school had to pay the woman $350,000. Did Alabama fire DuBose? Nope. It fired Bockrath. (DuBose went on to win the 1999 SEC title and got himself fired in 2000 for losing.)

Karma is a bitch sometimes. I’m sure there will be some falcons fan Facebook feeds that will be lighting up over this. What a douche.

  2. Beard Dawg

And yet another reason I’m glad to have Coach Richt….

  3. bulldogbry

    There is a God

  4. AthensHomerDawg

If Arkansas fires Petrino, they will most certainly go after up and comer Coach SOD. What is UT going to do ? For awhile there UT fans thought that with all the hot seat talk surrounding CMR, Georgia would eventually fire Richt and come after SOD. Just when they thought they could relax a bit this happens. UT can’t catch a break. “Bless they hearts.”

    • Dooley? Why on earth would Arkansas be interested in a coach who’s never had a winning season?

I’d look for the Hogs to make a run at either Petersen or Patterson, assuming Petrino goes (which I doubt). Unless they can find another asshole head coach ready to bail on his boss – and it may be a little early to expect Todd Graham to do that.😉

      • TennesseeDawg

Todd Graham has just indicated that Arkansas was his dream job all along.

        • Cojones

As they all are. But we really wouldn’t expect him to drop a job he hasn’t even learned yet, would we? Nah.

      • AthensHomerDawg

My sarcasm sounded good when I first started typing. 😉 I don’t expect Arkansas to let any morals clause get in the way of any potential SEC championships.

    • Skeeter

Well AHD, I at least appreciate your finely-crafted, subtle sarcasm.

  5. Jim Tressel

I actually knew about this several days ago but didn’t know who to tell.

    • Mark Richt

Never would have had a woman on the back if he’d been riding a scooter.

      • Jay Hickman

if he had a woman on the back of a scooter, he would have made sure nobody saw him. Especially if she was a big ol’ gal.

wait, did I just mess that joke up?

      Hey that’s funny…that’s what I said.

  6. Slaw Dawg

Arkansas hired a man who had demonstrated disloyalty and untruthfulness. Now Arkansas leaders and fans (and, unfortunately, Petrino’s wife and kids) are learning that they are, in fact, dealing with a man who is disloyal and untruthful.

In other news, the sun came up this morning.

  7. Bob

I would be shocked if Arkansas got rid of Petrino. If they do and the Hogs fall on their face this fall, Long would need to call Damon Evans for post AD advice.

    • I think there are only two ways Petrino goes: (1) a huge firestorm from the fan base (doubtful) or (2) Long puts feelers out and finds he can get a coach as good as Petrino. Otherwise, I agree with you.

      • 81Dog

was the young lady his cousin? Because if she wasnt, that may actually go against him. Can’t have folks thinking Bobby’s all uppity about who he dates, you know. Taint right.

      • Cojones

Not sure about that. After all, they fired Lou Holtz for being politically indescreet. It’s all up to the conservatives in a Bible Belt state during their Santorum year. The “Bo-Hog among young sows” treatise won’t go well with the snake handlers.

  8. Ubiquitous GA Alum

Wonder if Petrino ended the relationship with the woman by taping a break up letter to her locker?

    Red Panties and all!

    • pantydawg

      hahaha lmao that was greatness!

btw were you the winning bidder for those red panties on eBay cause i lost the auction lol

  10. Spike

How would you like to be a fly on the wall when Petrino ‘splains all this to Mrs. Petrino?

    • He already has. And if he keeps his job, I can’t wait to see what the reaction of the fan base will be if she decides she’s had enough of him. Especially if she does so during football season.

      • 81Dog

After she realizes that dumping Bobby means she has to give up the box at games, and the big house, and the new car every year, and all the perks that go with being Mrs. Coach, she’ll probably hug him and then go around bragging that THEIR mistress is a lot hotter than any other coach’s bimbo in the league.

        • What makes you think she’ll have to give up the big house? Or a major claim on his $3+ million/year salary?

I kinda doubt the box at games has a lot of allure for her right now, anyway.

          • 81Dog

She gets it all if she’s a widow. Maybe Bobby better sleep with one bruised eye open for a while.

            • No One Knows You're a Dawg

Petrino is a goner. I’m thinking Gus Malzahn is their man.

  13. Its Good Friday, the holiest day in the Christian Calendar. But I just cannot help but comment that if this ever happens to Richt that should signal the total end of morality in the NCAA.

…and justifiably the onset of the Apocalypse for all intents and purposes. (Unless said Apocalypse is first triggered by the Dawgs heading into Fall Camp with 85 scholarship football players in tow)

  14. CoachSpurlock

The point that most seem to be overlooking is that she was hired as a recruiting director for the football team just over a week ago. If they find out the affair was going on long before the hire, that could be the biggest problem he will face. I’m not sure what the law is in Arkansas, but if this happened in Georgia it would be a huge ethics violation. In the public school system, it is a fireable offense.

    • 81Dog

This won’t be considered an ethics violation in Arkansas. It’ll be a case study on how to hire hot blondes, with a cautionary twist on avoiding Harley wrecks and blowing the whole deal (rimshot).

Somewhere in Harlem, Bill Clinton is slapping his forehead and asking himself “Why didn’t I run the Presidential Intern Program this effectively?????”

  15. Alcoholic Genius

She. It. Who that fool lawyer? Unless Morals Clause be Santi Clause brother, aint no way a man who a documented liar be expected to survive with that in the contract. Beside, he up against the onlyest thang in the whole wide world that undefeated. We is weak, but she is strong. He aint xactly Mr. Personality or Mr. GQ, so you know he don’t get many chances. If I be his lawyer, I would have insist upon a poon exception for that fool, and they would’ve granted it, cause nobody believe it would happen, cept maybe with some cattle, and you aint gone get that exception.

  16. Tenndawg

This is a much more sorid affair. I read yesterday that the young lady is engaged to an assist strength coach and they were or still are to be married in June. That poor guy…the 50 yr old coach is giving your soon to be wife the business and now everybody knows about it. Talk about the walk of shame.

    • 69Dawg

Wild rumor has it that the reason the girl was not scratched and Bobby looked like a train wreak was that the strength coach beat the heck out of him.

      • Tenndawg

Well…if it is true that she is engaged to someone on Bobby’s staff then yes a serious beat down would be heading his way if it had not already happened. I think that if it comes to light that the affair was happening before her new job and that she is engaged to a strength coach then it would be very difficult to keep him. Maybe they will hire Smart from under Saban.

  17. Bryant Denny

I don’t know anything about Petrino’s family, but I feel bad for them. The wife and kids have probably sacrificed much so that he can be a big time football coach. He pays them back with this. Shameful.

It’s a good reminder for me to keep my priorities straight.

    • AthensHomerDawg

I thought the same thing. If this has gone on for a while then he is gone. That is a lot of grief to deal with. My son’s are in college and I don’t need to use a lot of imagination to know the consequences of hurting their Mother like that. My priorities are in great shape!

When you’re 51 and a head coach you buy a bike to keep you young.
In order to remain young, you take your 25 year old girlfriend for a bike ride.
When you you take your 25 year old girlfriend for a bike ride, she might give you a reach around.
When you get a reach around, it becomes hard to maneuver those Ozark Mountain curves when someone is pulling your clutch.
When someone is pulling your clutch, you end up in a road side ditch.
Don’t end up in a roadside ditch like Bobby Petrino, Get DirectTV

This might be the best reply to a post I have ever read.

      You win the internet today.🙂

    • 81Dog

      well played, sir!!!!

    • Cojones

Good one, DIF. Some of the replies to the first site are really delusional and it’s embarrassing to see what fans write.

  19. HVL Dawg

Bill Clinton- help us out here.

I don’t understand why everyone thinks Bobby lied. Didn’t the chick get off the motorcycle just before the accident? I mean, what is your definition of when the accident actually began? I contend that the accident began when Bobby hit the ground. Sometime between the time the bike left the road and when Bobby hit the ground the girl got off the bike and Bobby was the only one involved in the accident.

No lies were told. Move along. Nothing to see here.

    • Always Someone Else's Fault

And if it took an act of Congress to fire Petrino, that’s probably the line his handlers would be advising.

  20. I cannot help myself thinking if this ever happen to SABAN. LOL

    • shane#1

You are talking about love and lust and other human emotions. Saban doesn’t have time for that shit!

  21. BHP

ESPN interviewed a Fayetteville newspaper reporter, and he mentioned “21-5” and “BCS Bowls” about a dozen times. The ARK AD better have some stones, ’cause it looks like the right decision (firing) would be very unpopular amongst the Hawg faithful.

  22. Russ

The Yahoo on, er, Yahoo said it will be hard for Petrino to regain the respect he had after this affair. I say it won’t be hard at all. No one respected the little douche-bag before this, and they certainly don’t now.

  23. Mayor of Dawgtown

So a 50ish year old guy got so strange. BFD! Bet that’s the first time something like that ever happened. I’d like to have an FBI investigation of all the guys who post on this blog. Let’s see how many of you can meet the standards you guys all seem to want to impose on other people.

    • tlkdawg

Spoken like a true cheating SOB. Your ex-wife must be proud. P.S.- I’m at 24 years without so much as an inappropriate handhold with a woman other than my wife

    • HVL Dawg

FYI If I ever wreck a motorcycle with a 25 year old engaged employee, then lie to my boss, I’ll be fired.

      • Mayor of Dawgtown

My point exactly. WTF business is it of your employer what you do after business hours so why should you ever have to be asked? And to answer tlkdawg above I have been happily married 30+ years “without so much as an inappropriate handhold” myself. Just because someone doesn’t share your fixation with salacious details of people’s private lives doesn’t mean you should jump to conclusions about what they do themselves. Methinks you protest a little too much tlkdawg.

        • Normaltown Mike

Head football coach at the flagship state U in the deep south is every bit as public a position as Governor. What’s more, his contract includes a moral turpitude clause.

If the Governor laid down his bike and lied about having a girl on the bike,, you don’t don’t think voters would be calling for him to step down (e.g, Mark Sanford)?

          • Mayor of Dawgtown

I come from a generation where stuff like this was a private matter between the man and his wife. It still should be.

            • ScoutDawg

You say it still should be and maybe so, but it isn’t. The little prick lied and manipulated, allegedly, a State Trooper into a false official document. I don’t care who that trash is doing, but he went to some lengths to cover up the affair, no pun intended.

    • Normaltown Mike

If this same event happened at UGA, UT, Vandy, UF and maybe the Mississippi schools, you don’t think the Alumni would be calling for his firing?

  24. OldDawg55

Actually, I tend to view HVL Dawg’s comments as pretty germane…not that I”m a fan of Petrino’s but is it possible that the guy just gave the gal a ride on his bike? She did just move up on his staff so either he likes her professionally as well as personally, like “Hey Mary, wanna ride on my bike?”…seriously, has there been any other evidence that they had anything going between them other than a bike ride??

    • AthensHomerDawg

“seriously”.. other than Petrino’s description of an “inappropriate relationship”.?????????

      • Cojones

That “I are guilty of an “IR” ” will get you every time. And the lipstick on the zipper was a dead giveaway!

        • Cojones

OldDawg55- The Ark fans are making wishful castings for how to keep him as well. See DIF’s first site (11:23-hogville) suggestion. Some are even supplying the words for her to take the blame by saying she intentionally seduced him.
