Another day, another buffet.
- Nothing like having to defend the SEC Freshman of the Year to your own fan base. Mark Richt is a patient man, bless his heart.
- If you’re looking for the conventional wisdom on Georgia Tech’s 2012 season, here ’tis.
- SEC coaches look at Missouri’s offense and shrug… a little. (I’m looking forward to seeing how their defenses handle it.)
- Another reason why I love the NCAA: “Another task force has recommended firming up the scheduling window for major college football’s bowl season, setting a calendar through the 2019 season in which the first game would be no earlier than Dec. 15 and the last game no later than Jan. 13.” January 13th? Way to put your foot down there, fellas.
- The first snarky response to this header is “because it doesn’t have to”. The second one is “it doesn’t go north or east, either”. Seriously, though, read it, because it’s probably a good model for where McGarity intends to go with scheduling at Georgia.
- Clark Howard: “High-definition, flat-screen TVs are driving down the price of tickets to live sports events in an unexpected way.”
- Mark Richt sees the NFL draft as more of a time to celebrate than as an evaluation of the talent on his roster.
Florida never needs to apologize about its schedule.

Absolutely not. Now’s the time you really need that weak sucker. Don’t worry, we have now joined you in looking for the weakest route to NC.
Except we ain’t stupid delirious, stadium-filling rabid about watching a great assemblage of trained athletes pound some poor sucker into a delirium, then jump up and applaud them for doing it with relish. I hope we never achieve that FU “pinnacle”.
By the way, how are you guys doing with the decertifying of your Communications Dept and having the firesale on computers in the Computer Science Dept? Your Gov Scott seems to have ushered Fu into the Modern FU Era; that of anal attentive legislators who start a new U in Tampa while at the same time cutting FU $13.4M. That after refusing to accept over $13B from the feds that had already been allocated. My friends from that area says he is advertising education and what he has done for it in Fla using statew money to misinform his people. Sincerely, my heart goes out to you and The University of Florida and the rest of your University System.

Overheard:
Recruit from Fla, ” Well, Coach, after I get my degree, no matter whether NFL occurs or not, I would like to be an Announcer.”
UGA Coach, ” Son, that’s great! You know that UGA has a top notch Communications Dept with a great Computer Science Dep to match where you can learn all about your projected interest in Announcing with the major in Communications. Not so much down at FU.”

Paul Johnson’s winning percentage vs. Georgia (.250) exactly matches Tech’s overall record against UGA since they left the SEC. So I think there’s a case to be made that he is, in fact, carrying on Tech’s winning tradition, such that there is one.

Darn straight. Tech is to tradition as my arse is to a dingleberry.

Not to mention he has lost 4 straight bowl games (tech has lost 7 in a row BTW). Way to put some lipstick on a pig there.

So Clark, exactly which ticket prices have been cut because of HDTV? I haven’t seen any.

Don’t judge ticket prices by face value. Instead look at what they are selling for on Stubhub et.al. Only the most in demand games have prices at or above face. I agree with Clark Howard that crowds are going to become more important for the background atmosphere they provide television than as a source of significant revenue to teams. I wouldn’t be surprised if ticket sales became a revenue “loss leader” in televised sports, with the money recouped by television contracts.

“crowds are going to become more important for the background atmosphere”
The producers could just pipe in crowd noise audio and expand upon the CGI ‘Master Chef’ faked crowd scene to create a little packed house reality show

Except on kickoff or pass plays where you see 3 balls going in the same direction like incoming.

By the way, how the hell is Tech’s recruiting going, Chip?
Pinkel is wise in his approach to UGA. He points out the historical precedents they will begin to have in the SEC, game after game, using each one to rally his troops as if each game is for the NC. He’s psychologically clever in getting his boys up for the games, starting with us.
Looks like MIzzou will fit right into the SEC East mix.

Hey, sportswriters, if the Nerds were forced to vacate a conference title …in a bitterly contested infractions case, but that’s another story for another day… then stop saying that they won it. They did not. They stole it. They cheated. Either say they cheated to win it or don’t say anything about it at all. They won nothing. Period.

I like that Tech’s bad second half of the season last year was the result of injuries in Tony’s mind. Could it possibly be that they stopped playing horrible teams?
